Why Is $25000 Called A Peanut?

Recommended Posts

i think youre making too much out of this
Que? Seriously wanting to know its origins. If it's obvious I apologize in advance but I ain't too smart. :PMaybe I'll give it a shot though: Is winning any small amount in a game considered a peanut...e.g. the phrase "he plays for peanuts"?I've seen 25k referred to as a peanut on more than one occassion and never any other amount is why I ask.

You've heard of a small amount of money being referred to as peanuts, right? I'm pretty sure that's all he was saying, that $25,000 is hardly anything at those stakes.

Well, I don't be as dumb as I thunked. I'm guessing it was just coincidence that I've seen $25k referred to as a peanut on more than one occasion.

make a thread with all of the gambling terms(peanut, dime, nickel, etc.) in it so people know what you're talking about. Just saying this because there seems to be a lot of questions about the terms after you write a blog that mostly discusses poker.

LOL...honestly...."peanuts" is not a poker term. It is a general term meaning a small amount of money. Mind you, I personally wouldn't call $25 000 peanuts, as I am sure many other people wouldn't!

I know it is used in the "regular" world but there are a lot of people that ask questions about some of the "gambling" terms DN has used in past blogs so I thought it might be an option for him to quickly jot down a bunch of them. His referring to 25k as peanuts was to the amount of Bets he won in comparison to the blind structure, not the amount of money.

I've heard at The Bellagio (and maybe everywhere) a 25k chip is called a pancake. I assumed it was because it was bigger than the other chips. Is that correct?I know in Tunica the 1k and 5k chips are bigger than the others. At least they were when I was a dealer.

I recently lost a peanut at the pancake, but my syrup held up long enough to make the orange come in. And man, was my banana baked! Can you imagine my amazement when I went all-in with a pizza, but my cracker got toasted by a stick of butter. I mean...give me a taco on the flop instead of a lighthouse.Well, that's poker.
