and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Edit: 6 minute ol/dr.

You know why this happens? Because it takes so long to load this thread. So I click on the thread, go do something else, come back to it and then reply.

In case you guys were wondering why it took me so long to write such a short post.

Also, Napa, I didn't read your joke. I think I skipped past it after you asked who Quack was. It was a quality joke.

HR wanted to meet today. my manager ripped into them for rejecting me on some application for some position in another department. they said they could have me interviewing immediately for positions in other departments. for $28.8k. government is offering $28k and I told them as much. nice of them to not even make it a close decision.

But government is really much higher because of the benefits? Is that where we're at? Might they go high enough to change your mind?

Are these the people who I said to tell about your other job offer before accepting it because if they value you they might make an effort to keep you?

shit, that last sentence. is THAT what I do to you guys?

yes, the government job is effectively a few thousand higher, not even counting raise potential. even if we're just looking at parking and commute, the government job wins handily.

the way it works at SS, you have to be an associate I for a year before you move up to $30k at the senior level. then you have to be there for two years before you can move up to the manager level for $36k. and obviously that is just the potential to apply for those spots, lots of people take longer to move up.

I mean, I'm glad I didn't say loudly that I wasn't going to even interview for this other spot, because there are three people in my department who make less than 28.8k and have been in their jobs for 1 year+. how in the world do you start people at $27k for full-time and get any takers?

to answer the question as I think it was posed, yeah, my boss's boss definitely gave HR the business over not considering me for this other job. the woman tried to play it off like she was just responding to my email from a few days prior (that she had fully ignored), but in our talk today, she mentioned the offer from the VA that I had not yet mentioned to her.

So, after 1 year of employment you move to the "senior" level (assuming you make the cut) and get to reap the rewards of a $1,200 a year raise? Like $100 a month? Wow. I'm with you, I don't know how they get anybody to take that. Much less stay a day longer than necessary.

I think you were right, DJV.

oh, and at the manager level, you are salaried (no overtime), but my manager for instance works 50 hours/week as if it's required (it might be, I don't know). it looks like hourly people just work tons of overtime to bump their pay up to a reasonable level, which is really quite genius by SS.

my senior got pretty mad when I summed all of this up after the meeting. like, trying to put me in my place or something for turning my nose up at 28.8k. last week, yes, this would've been a huge relief (not having to sign another temp contract), but now I have an alternative that is objectively better. it's a numbers game now, and SS is losing horribly.

I...I don't know.

Can you just tell me if I was right or not?

I laughed.

Speaking of average movies with exceptional performances by an actor, an swear to christ, John C Reilly in Cedar Rapids is quite possibly the funniest performance in cinema history, or at least since Philip Seymour Hoffman in Along Came Polky

I'm not joking, not even a little

The fact that you had that, instantly, concerns and impresses me. Now I'm mad that I can't see her pics. I'm certainly not friending her. Not that I have a problem following a porn performer, just that I'm too lazy to click follow

nothing will ever beat SA's robert redford "rape?" gif response. to this day, I still randomly laugh about it. it was only like a week ago, but still, TO THIS DAY.

^ best post i've ever read.

thinking about seeing the master tonight. i'll have to go solo, but thats cool, i don't need nobody. to contradict that lie i'll say its not official yet because i'm currently texting with this girl about hanging out but she's being purposely vague and non-committal in that way that women do when they don't want to commit because they think something better to do could possibly be happening later and if they don't commit they won't feel bad when they say they can't do it. goddamn whores.

i mean the last lady, the one that broke my sweet beautiful heart came right out and told me about how she does that. she did it in the context of one of her friends that she didn't really want to hang out with but if nothing else came up. yadda yadda yadda it was pretty funny when she did that to me later. i didn't call her out on it though. because i'm not a man.
