I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I got nothing. I also went and shot some clay pigeons this weekend and now have a big bruise on my shoulder and bicep because I'm apparently terrible at shouldering my shotgun.
see, now this is something I could really get into. even if I had one of herschel's cheat code guns, I'd still get horribly murdered by zombies in an apocalypse scenario with the way I shoot.I should practice more with my bb gun. always really fun.
so it looks like the forums are disappearing. was it the bestiality forum we decided on? I can't remember.
huh?

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

While you're here, I realize that I'm somewhat confused about when mac applications are compiled. If I download a disk image of an application and drag it to my applications directory, does any compilation take place? Or do mac applications simply have pre-compiled binaries? I guess the latter would mean they have different binaries for the various mac architectures?
Yeah, applications are pre-compiled. Most of them are compiled to have "universal binaries" which means the code for both mac architectures (intel/ppc) is included in the same bundle, but since the old architecture is getting pretty rare now, thats not done as often.
Hey VB/Speedz/Et Al...what's the ingredient that's in redbull/5 hour energy that makes me feel good and that my life isn't going to be a complete failure, because I'd like to be able to take that for my daily anxiety attack without all of the other stuff that comes in those drinks. Any ideas?

Yeah, the new topics and categories make a lot of sense. I like it.
Yeah, that should have happened years ago. Thumbs up.

been seeing the word millennial thrown around a lot in reference to some generation of people. had my secretary look it up on wikipedia, sounds like it is loosely defined as anyone born in the last forty years.well done, guys.

taurine... red bull... that's so clever.this article is the anti-clever. the bit about guys liking to tinker with the special places to open cans... oh my god.
I love that they made a correlation between light beer drinkers, and unemployed people. Also, its silly that they think more stupid marketing ploys is what will "save" their industry. How much marketing is out for the craft brews? Craft brewing is like 5% of the market. Yes, its getting bigger every year while overall beer sales go down, but the "struggling" light beer makers still take in ~95% of all sales.

gladwell thinks the skills related to playing thousands of live shows had something to do with the way the beatles wrote and recorded the music we all know them for. I thought it was nonsense, bizzle thought I should read the book instead of just watching the interview where gladwell talks about it.I think gladwell's overall point is fine--being good requires tons of practice regardless of natural talent--but let's find an example that makes sense.
I eventually got around to reading the Gladwell books and was kind of pissed at myself for not taking the advice and doing it sooner since I love that kind of stuff. In a way though I was glad I did it after reading other books since those were more of the background to his material. Thinking Fast and Slow my Kahneman was fantastic, and the guy who spurred most of the research behind much of behavioral economics and other behavioral psych. Read "Nudge" as well.Oh well, currently I want to kill the people who spurred me into reading the Game of Thrones series though. Goddam, I wish the fuck winter woujld get here.

oh man I just realized that I can now stay completely in off topic since the politics section is here now. new bookmark bitches!and in regards to the beer article: all of those dumbass advertising campaigns and stupid bottles really make me angry, but I gotta tell ya that if budweiser came out with some sort of 1960s/70s style retro can that you had to bottle opener open or with a pull tab or something, I'd buy the shit out of that. retro is where it's at.

to the markets, no change in profits is the same as dying. or so I'm told.I don't think I've ever seen an ad for boulevard outside of their trucks, maybe a billboard or something in KC. the idea that they're coming up with campaigns to react to what the craft brewers are doing is fucking hilarious. seriously, how much market share does fat tire have?

I think there should be a special name for people who graduated in the 2008-2012(?) period. generation buttfucked, or something, is what I'd call it.

hmmmm... MD. yeah. do we still call a DDS 'doctor'? I was thinking I could slight my older brother by referring to my oldest brother as the only doctor in the family.
Frankly, I can't believe that's not already your go-to insult.
ha, this is what I thought when I read ron's post too. he sure it STUPID huh speedz?
RIGHT?!?
Speedz, I'd totally let you try and reattach my hand. Also, I'm super jealous that you get to be around horses right now. My brother made me clean out my tack room out of the barn since he needed the space for his sheep, so now I have all my old tack for sale on Craigslist and it has me all sad that horses probabaly won't be a part of my life for quite awhile again.
Yeah, you know, up until a week ago I wasn't a fan of horses, but now that I've actually been around them I'm a fan. Although they're so fucking sensitive it seems like pretty much anything can kill them...after spending tens of thousands of dollars trying to fix them.

speaking of horses, was anyone else watching Luck on hbo? i was. i liked it a lot and it really was getting very good at the end of season one. sadly it was just canceled because a third horse died during filming of season two. i uhh, think they could have worked around it, but the low ratings probably didnt help. anyways, the show gave me a new appreciation for horses. watching them run in slow motion was pretty sweet.

I never watched and Luck but they almost definitely wouldn't have cancelled it had it gone gangbusters in the ratings. However, it's my understanding they used a lot of old race horses that had no business being "raced" again. I think I'm going to start going to a few horse races here in town this summer. They're good fun. When I was younger the standardbred association (the kind of horses that do the cart racing) used to put on a "day at the races" that my 4-H group would always go to and you got to tour the barns/talk to trainers and all that. Then they would give a test on the history, equpiment, etc of standardbred racing and the individual high score would get like $500 and the winning team would get like $800 or something. Well, hardly anybody went to these things and I would study hardcore before hand. Pretty sure I won like $1,500 or so in the three years I went.

pretty sure I just obliterated this problem solving test with riot games. up next is a phone interview, then a flight to LA to interview onsite, then I have to talk to the CEO. so, I still have to climb a mountain.it was 126 questions over 20 minutes, basic math, pattern recognition, and vocab. absolutely melted face on the vocab part, but was hesitant to skip the others too often. I was thinking, well, this isn't a writing gig. probably got 85 of 126 correct.

So, my cube is the 2nd in a row from a major walkway and my "boss" is in the cube between me and the row and so whenever I'm bs'ing with him it's like a Wilson/Tim Taylor situation where I'm resting my arms on the divider and facing the walkway. This isn't a problem except for when my bro from the cubicle row over goes to the bathroom and on his way back we almost always end up meeting stares, cause were alpha as ****, and then have to do the slight head nod up to acknowledge our bro-ness. And so not only do I look like an idiot to my boss because I randomly just nod now and then while talking to him but I know this dude just got done pissing and so I'm basically saying "hey, hope you had a good piss". I hope no one reads this. Spent to much time typing to not hit submit. I just have a hunch that at least SA21 will understand. I sound like (am) a crazy person. Really bored today.
Yeah...I just gave him a finger pistol point & shoot in response to a head nod. My awkwardness knows no bounds.

Oh, you were looking for jokes. I only have time for serious advice, I'm almost a doctor for god's sake.
There was a bunch of stuff I was going to reply to, but I feel like I'm too late for all of it. This was funny though.

I tried to watch it. The local casino that I play poker at is attached to a race track. They really got the feel of these southern california horse gamblin guys down exactly right. But other than that, it took me several episodes to understand each storyline, it was just so hard to hear what people were saying, and it moved really slowly up until the last few episodes. Really not surprised it was cancelled, and it was definitely going down even if speedz had been able to save the horses.

hey isn't mad men back on now? I've been rewatching it and I'm towards the end of the third season now. not sure whether I want to continue to spread it out so I end up watching season 5 towards the end of 2012 so I'll remember it better for season 6, or just pump them all out and get it out of the way. oh the decisions in my life.
