If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

But speaking of poker, I'm going to Foxwoods tomorrow night, and I'd love to win some money. I think I'm going to play 2-4 or 4-8 limit...anyone have a good recommendation for a relatively short refresher course on how to beat those games? I used to do it consistently, but I'm pretty sure I've forgotten how to play.
With the rake and donks like Napa calling all the way to the river in 2 -4, it's pretty tough to beat long term. Though, the last time I was in Vegas I sat at a2-4 table waiting for a 1-2 NL spot to open and ended up staying there for hours. I left up just over $300. I was running like god and the players were horrid.I would stick to 4-8 if you want a real chance to make some money though. Ultimately low limit is all no foldem' holdem' though.

I once played 4-8 at the Bellagio and lost all my money without winning a single pot.
I really shouldn't be playing, as I can't afford that kind of problem.

Yeah.
I think your best bet is to just make hands and then bet and hope you cooler somebody.

Aren't the bad players supposed to make it easier to win long term?

This would be nice.

Yeah, I know I should, I just don't want to lose $200 in case I run cold. Plus I haven't played poker in so long that I might actually not be one of the better players at the table. Although it'll be late on a saturday night...

I would guess that bad players make it easier for disciplined players to win, but makes it more of a crap shoot when you just want to play a bunch of hands and do some drinking on a Saturday night (aka Ron Mexico poker). This is me speaking from stuff I've read on here, not from experience.

Yeah, I agree, which is why I disagreed with tiltin's characterization of it as being the opposite (possible to beat one night, hard to beat in the long run).

if you wanna do some studying on what to play preflop, play 4-8. if you don't wanna do much studying, play 2-4. you're not gonna win much, if anything, at 2-4 either way because of the rake... so you may as well limit your downside.I have a pdf of ed miller's book which is pretty much perfect for your purposes, but it's 37MB (gmail's limit is 25) and megaupload doesn't exist anymore. I can try google docs if you're interested.

my dream table is 9 guys who pretty much call to the river every time I'm betting. you're gonna get beat by random shit more often, but your winrate skyrockets provided you play long enough.

What's funny is I haven't played poker since I moved to Mississippi and Grinder motivated me to go play a couple rounds. In MS, the casinos have to be on the MS river, so it's literally a building attached to another building that is built to look like a steamboat. I go by there almost every week on my way to Monroe, LA. Speedz, you cannot play the limit games at foxwoods. You'll remember why you don't play poker anymore. Give yourself a shot at the title with a little 1-2 action there. It does not matter what limit game you play, there is no bluffing, it is literally who has the best hand at the end (usually three ways). I'm sure most of you didn't highlight the quote from Grinder I re(posted, tweeted? Idk, I'm not a kid anymore). Also, it's been 18 months since my last bbomb, which I completely forgot about until I randomly checked on things here. I'm incredibly happy to see who's left, seems to be doing reasonably well. Lastly, was that Guapo Dutch race thing a joke or not? Or level, apparently. I left before that word was Bespoke and/or cool. I still use too many paragraphs. And you should still go to NYC given the chance.

Does the rake really kill you that bad in those games? Let's say I have exactly $150 to play with...do I risk it at 4-8 where I have less blinds but a better chance due to more realistic competition and the rake issue?

That's ok, thanks. I've got SSHE, just not the time to really read much...more looking for a basic article or something to get my brain moving in the right direction.

Which is how I used to do quite well in Arizona. Tourists, man, tourists.

Yeah, but that's what I like. I'm not interested in raising my blood pressure with a bunch of NL jokers who still think the WPT is the coolest. I'd rather have some fun while trying to win a few bucks.

Wait, what?
Boy is it!
This guy.
I got a raise today! only 3.4% but hey paper's paper amirite dog?

Just play 2/4 or 3/6 Speedz. 180 isn't near enough to play 4/8. Like 1 or 2 hands and you're done. Rake isn't going to break you in one night. Gonna be much more dependent on if you make hands or not. Plus the competition isn't going to be any better at 4/8, just same players willing to lose a little more is all. Me and my roommates are watching Fast Five. They don't find it as awesomely funny as I do.

go with 2/4 if you've only got $150. the thing about the rake, at the hollywood here in KC, it's a $4 max rake, not sure how that is calculated, plus $1 for the bad beat jackbot. so, that's 1.25BBs raked out of every big pot you win. it's a MASSIVE gravitational pull in a game where you're hoping to clear 2-3BBs/hour (that's a guess, but I think you get the point?). if the players were at all competent in 2/4 games, the rake would actually make it unbeatable.I fucking hate 1-3 NL, but it's the only rake-friendly game within my willing-to-lose limits at hollywood. it's a game of tough decisions, paying attention to all the action in every hand, yadda yadda. LHE is more like doing basic math for hours. no stress, no regret, no worrying about bet sizing, etc. I would be at the casino nonstop if they had 4/8 or 5/10.

I quoted a bunch of stuff but strat is right. No, the rake isn't that big of a deal just going to play a couple of hours one night. But 2-4 and 3-6 especially are all about making hands. If you're not catching good cards and hitting flops it's going to be a long night. Pocket pairs, even 2 pair mean almost nothing when Cletus is calling you all the way down with nothing but a middle flush draw.I still play 3-6 but I don't take it too seriously. Just have fun with it and what happens, happens. The local casino here (almost all of them are indian casinos) spreads a 2-200 spread game that plays like no limit which is much more fun, and beatable long term.

I'm assuming he met her at a bar and somehow arranged a future communication of some kind which resulted in a planned date where she got cold feet and showed up late which meant poor Shake had to stay out until past 8:30.
e-val
power connector has the perfect design. the speaker design allows them to make it listenable. the airflow that never has you worrying about how you've positioned it in your lap.
yes to all this but no no no no no to no numpad and that horrible chiclet keyboard. deal breakers.

exactly. though the strippers here in kc are a sad sight at this point. the new laws are killing this business. but i still enjoy a big pair o titties in my face. this girl tonight told me her fantasy was to get double teamed. i was like bitch dont talk just dance.
