Animals being dicks. Good old fashioned internetty fun.
This is pretty great. It's too bad the site sucks and you can't skip around. If I go there again, I'm going to have to go through about 100 pic's I've already seen.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Paterno admitted when the GA came to him he was "visibilly distraught". You dont get that upset by seeing him hold a kids hand. The GA said he witnessed the kid with his plams on the wall while Sandusky ass raped him. I mean, how can you misscontrue that into "horsing around" as the admin's did. They are lying their asses off.
Curley and the other dude are definitely lying. I saw something today saying they were going to fight the charges and clear their good names. The "charges" are something stupid, like 3rd degree misdemeanors. These guys should be in prison and they are going to fight a small fine.
Has anybody in here seen the movie Sleepers?
I haven't.

I haven't.
Good performances, good movie, but it basically avoids the morality issues. Wouldn't want to watch it again either. If this Sandusky indictment hadn't happened, it would be like if two of the victims just happened to cross paths with Sandusky today and they killed him. Then two of the other victims use their connections to not only have them found not guilty, but also use the trial to totally expose everything that took place at Penn State. It's an interesting premise, but they don't really dig very deep with it.Spoiler alert.

Fine. Explaining why he might have behaved that way by referencing the SPE.
The GA had a good job. A career any GA in his field would love to have. He saw something he didn't like and reported it. He knew his superiors (One of which was the head of the university police force) were not handling it satisfactorily, because they told him that they only took Sandusky's keys and told him to stop raping boys. At this point, many people would call the police/FBI, however, in the context of his social situation and position, he deferred all of his morality to his superiors and let them mishandle the situation. If he would have called the cops over their heads, he almost certainly would have been fired, even if the police investigated it.

Sounds good. It's too bad you don't want to watch it again, although that does lower my expectations.

Check out this article.Written in April.
Gross. This guy has been free this whole time too. He has probably raped kids between that article being written and today. Hell, he's out on bail RIGHT NOW!

I think you're still missing the point I was trying to make. You reference psychology to explain why he did what he did and why he seems OK with it. But then you go and attack the wife for not doing anything while totally ignoring the fact that there might be psychological reasons why she didn't report it either and I thought that is unfair and hypocritical and was just pointing that out. Unless I'm missing something.

Get in line, buddy. Speedz and Suited already mentioned that, and I agreed that I had extra ill-will toward the wife without knowing all the facts. The smell coming from her is just much worse for me than anyone at Penn State. However, we may never know what she knew, because she won't be required to break the 5th amendment. However, in the post you quoted, you didn't even mention the wife. You told me to explain how I was comparing the GA to the SPE, so that's what I did.ps. I like it when you mix up in the battle. You don't usually throw around your opinions and stuff.

Mind you, it's based on no evidence, but nothing Paterno did suggests he was a monster, and everything the wife didn't do, implies that she is. I'm just going on the math here.
That just makes no sense whatsoever. We KNOW Paterno knew about this. We don't know that about the wife, you can only suspect it (rightfully so, but still, denial is a powerful thing). And even if she did know it, they're guilty of the same crime.
"I wrote just about everything I plan to write for a while about the Penn State situation here. I know there are people who believe that I have a responsibility to write more, to have an opinion, to come out strong, I know this because many, many people have written to tell me that in no uncertain terms.I respect their opinion. But I disagree with it. The way I see it: I have a responsibility to write the best, most insightful and most honest book I can possibly write about Joe Paterno. That's what I signed up for. I'm not backing down from that because of this awful, evil situation. I'm also not walking away from a life and a man. When something this horrible happens, it's hard to hear yourself think -- it's impossible for me to hear anything. I won't add to the noise. If you want to read instant and strong opinions about Penn State and Joe Paterno, I can assure you there is no shortage of howling there."
I want to be his friend.

The same crime? Are you crazy? She was married to him for like 40 years. Paterno only knew about 2 instances, and obviously his wife knew about both of those also, since they were common knowledge around Penn St.Listen. We are going to keep going around in circles. I agree that I jumped the gun on actually executing the wife, but I still feel like she's a terrible person.I also agree with you that Paterno should have done more than just fire him after the first time in 1998 (although I'm not sure what more he could have done. Probably made it public that he was being fired for raping kids instead of letting him retire.) I also think Paterno should have followed up a 3rd time in 2002, and then told the AD he was going to the cops if he didn't. (Suited could use the bystander effect here with JoePa, since Joe probably decided it wasn't his problem, since Sandusky was retired and allowed on campus by his contract.)

That's a lot to ask of a 19 year old who has been brainwashed to treat his coach as a god.
"On Wednesday, Paterno talked to his team for about 10-15 minutes in an auditorium of the football facility on campus. Standing at a podium, he told players he was leaving and broke down in tears. Players gave him a standing ovation when he walked out."I guess that answers that. Will he get the same reception from fans this Saturday?

Yeah, time for cats. Remind Deb that while she's waiting for a magical time when a cat will arrive at her door, there are hundreds of cats in your area that need good homes. You could hit up a few shelters, play with the current inhabitants, and see if any of them seem like a good fit...you don't have to put pressure on yourselves, just remember that you'll only take home the perfect cat for you, and if you don't meet one, no big deal. I'm a huge, huge proponent of finding an adult (over a year) cat that already has a formed personality so you can make sure it would be a good fit.Edit: Sorry, I should have put that in the "ask speedz" thread. Although nobody really asked me anything, per se...
Took a trip to the shelter on Halloween to see a cat listed on their website. Alas, she was already adopted. Looked around a bit and brought her home:DSC00234.jpgNow back to the kiddy diddler discussion.

Yeah, this story is waaaaaaay worse than I thought when I was just hearing snippets of it.Plus, you know, maybe protect the kids.It made me think about speedz's and vb's posts about the graduate assistant and whether he did everything right. Witnessing what took place and not doing anything RIGHT THEN is just awful. Maybe you don't have to rush in there and start throwing punches, but you have to start yelling or doing something to make it stop. For fuck's sake man. And if yelling doesn't stop it, then you need to do something physical to make it stop. And call 911 immediately. Don't go home and call your dad. You're 28 years old. Fucking do something.
Who says he didn't stop them? You're assuming that Sandusky continued what he was doing after seeing McQueary walk in? I seriously doubt it, but either way we don't have that information. I'm willing to bet that as soon as they made eye contact both parties freaked out and Sandusky stopped what he was doing.

Fine. Although, once again, you don't know the full story. "He's just such a good person, he loves helping troubled boys. He had a rough childhood, so he identifies with them. I know it seems strange that he spends so much time with them, and I've heard some awful rumors, but people just don't know him like I do. I've never seen him do anything inappropriate to any of the hundreds of boys he has helped."Again, denial is more powerful than you're giving it credit for. She's an idiot, yes. She's possibly a terrible person if she did suspect he was hurting those kids. But you're STILL jumping the gun.
I'm not sure what more he could have done.
...you don't?

Clearly.

Yes.Sigh. By all accounts, he's actually a great human being aside from this one GLARING misstep. I don't know what the hell was going through his head when he believed the administrators when they said they were "taking care of it", but clearly he had a monumentally stupid and dangerous lapse in judgement. I do understand some people wanting to still thank him for all the good he did. Someone should thank him for his service. Ok, not really, but I was wondering if anyone would catch that West Wing quote. It's an awkward situation, and it seems as if the majority of State supporters are preferring to keep their heads in the sand. Again, they're all programmed to think that JoePa is God. If God raped someone, brvheart would find a way to justify it.

One of my Theriogenology (making babies) professors constantly makes the "kitty porn" joke. He also refuses to call female dogs anything but "bitches". He gets a kick out of it, and rightfully so.Good looking cat, what's she like?

That's a fair point. Although he certainly didn't stick around to make sure Sandusky wasn't going to start up again anytime soon. "Ok, he pulled out. TIME TO RUN!"

Gross, Speedz. Gross. I officially hate that GA.Also, I think it's awesome how white Rabbits or whatever, have the black feet and noses because of temperature somehow, and you can shave their backs or whatever and put an icepack on the shaved area and then it will grow in black. I don't know what I'm talking about, but I think it's cool. Explain it to me, Speedz. Does that same thing work for cats with black feet?

If you agree with all of it, we're not arguing about anything anymore. Huzzah!Although, we may be about to argue in the religion thread. But not really, since I wasn't too worried about it, and just felt like chiming in.
What was she wearing?
Doesn't matter. He's God, if he did it, it must have been right. He and JoePa are infallible.
Are you referring to the first time he was told about something going on or the second time?I don't know when your WW quote begins.
You know, I don't know much about the first time, so I'm a little behind the curve. I didn't realize it was confirmed that JoePa knew what happened in '98.The quote may not be exact. It's when Oliver Platt's character is talking to Toby right after he gets canned. Babbish: Rough in there. Thought he'd at least thank you for your service.Toby: He's angry.Babbish: Someone should thank you for your service.
