Napa_Don 688
I thought you had a job strat? My buddy who graduated with a degree in chemical engineering just started this week at wells fargo doing some mortgage claim stuff. I think he said he makes $15/hr or something. He just applied through a temp agency, didn't even have to interview with Wells Fargo. Apparently they all "LARP" while at work. I met some of them last night and I can say pretty definitively that they all hate their lives and couldn't stop talking about how overqualified they were and how their real talents were being wasted. Lovely bunch of people.
vbnautilus 48
Brv's decision is pretty easy if you think of it this way: Would you rather live with brvheart's wife for two months or with 72 virgins for eternity?

Lovely bunch of people.ya, I quit the call center like a week and a half into training. I am really, really not meant to take phone calls. they had other jobs open, but were completely unwilling to let me leave the department because they're getting crushed with call volume. I did my best not to burn any bridges when I left, so maybe they'll reconsider.I haven't been able to find anything worthwhile in town or in KC, and my degree's in finance, so wells fargo would actually work for a career-type situation. I wonder what mortgage claim stuff entails. I know I sound like the kind of guy to complain about wasted potential, but I gave up on the idea that I'm capable of doing anything special with my life a long time ago.I would have to sell my gold coins to finance a move to Iowa. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm sure I'm going to have to print off something from COMEX just to get the metal value out of a dealer.

I don't think it's much phone work though as my buddy says he listens to his iPod the majority of the day. They were also saying how they felt bad for the people in collections and how shitty their job must be, which, if these guys were feeling sorry for them, it must be terrible. People sell unslabbed gold on there regularly. Most is unslabbed. As far as shipping, you ship it in the same way you ship anything else, only well insured and with delivery confirmation. If your feedback isn't congruous with what you're selling and you're selling something that may be prone to forgery (we see this pretty regularly when someone pops up whose feedback consists of Pokemon cards and Anime DVDs, who "found a Rolex in my grandfathers jewelry box after he died. I can't guarantee it's real so it's sold as-is, but grandpa loved watches and was a wealthy man...") you may not receive top-top primo bid, but you will do better than a coin shop unless you know of a buyer who's willing to pay more than ebay- in which case, you just found out how to pay for your move. timwakefield 68
Why?I don't think it's a reasonable assertion to say that a cat quantitatively "deserves" life more than a cow or pig does. The idea of deserving to exist is the thing I find hard to calculate. It's easy to figure in terms of evolution -- everything that's ever lived has genetically earned it and therefore deserved it -- but that's not really the question here. The question is basically, which animal is better? and I think that that's too broad a question, and moreover we're way too arrogant of a species to reliably attempt to resolve that question objectively. When you're picking which bank, look for a call position which is more aligned to service rather than sales. The sales jobs only lead to other sales jobs. Service jobs are far more annoying, but may lead to non-sales jobs in the future. The first 4 months of my non-poker work career involved attending paid training at several different financial institutions/call centres. Lovely bunch of people.Wells Fargo has 23,000 employees in Des Moines. They are hiring and firing people constantly. The department that I worked in, I would guess 40% had a bachelors degree and they were all making 12-15/hour. The far majority of the work with mortgages in Des Moines is processing, with no customer contact. Which is why your friend could listen to music all day.Brv's decision is pretty easy if you think of it this way: Would you rather live with brvheart's wife for two months or with 72 virgins for eternity?Have you hung out with a teenage girl lately? Tiltinagain 973
In my opinion, most "animal lovers" are huge hypocrites. An animal lover should either admit that they simply love cute fuzzy adorable animals, or that person had better be a goddam vegetarian, maybe even a vegan. The idea that a cat or dog is more deserving of life than a cow is completely preposterous to me. Don't get me wrong - I totally love animals, particularly my cat, and I totally eat meat. I'm definitely a hypocrite, but at least I acknowledge it. But I feel like anybody who makes a campaign out of saving or helping animals had better not wear leather or eat meat (this puts you on thin ice speedz, but you can also claim an economic motive for being a vet, so you're not completely guilty).Opinions are like assholes. You have your opinion and, thanks to you, the sicki thread has it's assholeWin, Win!

ShakeZuma 585
I'm looking forward to this story.well I didn't end up playing poker. they had a poker room but nobody else in my group wanted to play and I didn't feel like doing it alone, so we just bet at the dog track and then played that big spinning wheel game. it was the only table game you could get onto. titties went over better though. If there are going to be 72 of them, there's probably a good amount of pre-teens as well.praise allah! Just kidding. I've been reading Carl Sagan so I'm thinking a lot about the universe and the entirety of existence and everything, so that was probably informing some of my philosophical questions. I still think they're valid questions, if a bit abstract.

God dammit.I wasn't applying it to animal rights, I was pointing out that the question of who and what "deserves" to exist is far more than just a discussion on animal rights - it also has to be a discussion on the nature of existence. Imagining that we are endowed with the ability to solve those questions, or that our species is uniquely intelligent and perfect enough to not act and think completely selfishly when faced with those questions is pretty audacious. I'm not sure what part of that makes me an asshole.

I'm sure Scram or Spademan would do a better job eviscerating you, and have more fun to boot. Second, you do this thing where you say, "I'm not doing X," and then -- moments later -- you just straight up FUCKING DO X. You don't think the question, "What is the nature of existence?" should be examined before a discussion on who or what philosophically "deserves" to exist, and under which conditions we can consider existence beneficial or worthwhile?
