He just pulled off a squeeze, so he's not so short anymore.I'm struggling with this paper for my first class tomorrow. The instructor seems to love throwing absurd guidelines at us. If I could find a topic, I'd be done with this in less than half an hour.I had a conversation with a friend tonight that I might be able to use. We were talking about how college tuition rate hikes have turned a college degree into a losing proposition (or at least suboptimal) for some people. My friend has some bias as he did drop out of college but I think the idea has some merit. Counselors and other advisors tell you throughout school that you need to go to college or you're going to be a failure. Will they still say these things when college students are routinely graduating with six-figure debts?Hehe, I was super short and got lucky with AQ vs QQ...the squeeze you saw was QQ in the sb I guess. As for the college thing...the average high school graduate in the U.S. is making 15 dollars an hour. The average college graduate is making 25 dollars an hour. The average college student graduates with 20k debt. Basically one year of full time employment after college will make up that debt, though you have to take into account the lost wages from the x years that you spent getting your degree.Yes, there are schools that are much more expensive and people graduate with more debt (I'm sitting on a 65 k lump of student debt), but people who graduate from those schools also tend to make much more than 25 dollars an hour on average.Unless you're dropping out, it still seems like a winning proposition to me. But the whole point of the conversation I had today was the fact that students are getting squeezed harder and harder as everyone starts to believe that there is only one option after high school if you want to have a successful life. KU has been increasing tuition costs by about 5% a year for the last 3 years. It's already ridiculously stupid for people interested in doing trade-based things (electrician, auto mechanic, etc.) to go to college. When is it going to be that way for most careers?If I could do it all over again, I really don't know what I'd be doing right now. In my current situation (sophomore, 45 hours) it would be really stupid to drop out and work.Oh, and therrinn, I feel obligated to tell you that DragonDrake is my brother. Everyone is going to college these days, and because of that, jobs that shouldn't require a college education are starting to require them. What's next, needing a B.A. to work at McDonalds?I also agree that people should be more open to trade schools, but at the same time I think that one of the biggest changes we're facing is the fact that people nowadays are likely going to have numerous careers throughout their working life. I think that's the real appeal of the B.A. - it can get your foot in the door in a huge variety of fields that you might someday decide to go into. Both are attractive, especially by U of M standards. One of them had their boyfriend from high school up for the night on Sunday. Typical football guy, super competitive, and thinks he's the greatest at ping pong. We play, and I beat him 3 games straight when we were sober. We take a break, and he wants a rematch when I'm about 7 beers deep. I go down, and kick his ass twice more when I was pretty drunk.This story started out so promising, then fell apart so quickly... I really wish you could make a reservation for a new liver, you know like summer of of 2008 or something.In other news my younger sister went into labor on labor day and had a boy. My sister is married, owns a house and a car that isn't a ten year old cavalier or civic.(she's 23) She's always been good with money whereas I spend all my money on entertainment.
