If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

i have a futures bet on michigan at plus 475, but right now the favorite has to be duke. i'd be surprised if the winner wasnt one of duke, michigan, arizona or florida.  they seem to rise to a class above the rest this year.

This was pretty good, suited and rip brvy wont like it.

I think this was a bad read. I mean clearly because Essay said he liked it, but I don't think One Battle is near as political as it appears. I think the revolution is the setting for the movie, but I don't think it presents revolutionary politics in a particularly good light. I mean, they are fighting against an extremely racist enemy but I think both sides are portrayed rather cartoonish and absurdly.

Re-read the HollywoodAFD/JasonDyke reveal thread again and I always forget that Hollywood outwitted Suited and made him think Jason was me.  The best part about that thread. Other than, you know, Hollywood's utter humiliation. 18 years ago. Wild.

and i too was once raped in reverse.  plus i can let go of the politics of the filmmaker if the movie is well made, i have to or there would be no movies to watch.

still hard to believe, but i was young and foolish back then. not like now of course. no sir, no one could get one over on me now.

This is why we need McGee around to keep me from bad reads, Suited just lets me go.

i got why you would think that. i was worried when i watched it that it would be too one sided, but like Myron said it was more a fever dream of ridiculousness than a straight political movie.

Myron we need a rewatchable list

I have no interest in such a list. I don't really rewatch movies like that unless I'm showing someone a movie for the first time or it's been a long, long time since i've watched them. Like I rewatched The Revenant recently but that was because I wanted to show it to someone who had never seen it, I never would have popped it in otherwise. There are so many good movies I haven't seen yet that I almost never prioritize watching a movie I have already seen, unless it's something I haven't seen in decades and want to watch it again with fresh eyes.

easy to say when you have people to watch movies with.  i've always enjoyed watching movies over, especially the great ones. i have to be in a certain mood to watch a new movie, probably a side effect of my destroyed attention span.

i did just watch SCENT OF A WOMAN for the first time last night.  i didnt think pacino was too over the top, but that might be from having seen him the last 25 years already.  he was great, the movie overall was just okay.

mcgee has always been a man who refused to conform. he knows you want a list and it excites him to withhold it from you.

and he abandoned nebraska, which is a shame on a day like today.

finally saw high plains drifter. what a great western. i was watching it and i had this memory of my guy mcgee recommending it but me scoffing at it him with the ignorance of youth.  sure enough.

if only you'd told me about the rape scene 10 minutes in which i found DISGUSTING and not funny in any way.

i think im gonna watch every western i can and decide on who the greatest western star ever was, clint or the duke.

mcgee has to be over 50 now, so there's a curmudgeon aspect to it.

I'm team Clint for sure, Unforgiven and High Plains are my favorites. They're all pretty much the same movie.

I've really gotten into cycling the last couple of years, trails only, I stay off the roads. It's going to be 80 today, looking forward to it. NEBRASKA.

over 50, my god that sounds awful.

clint is the man, there's no denying that. i watched two mules for sister sara. an enjoyable movie, not as good as drifter though.

You seen the Man with No Name trilogy? Good stuff, especially The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Hadn't known that Ecstacy of Gold is originally for it, and was pretty blown away by that scene. Looked up Morricone after and saw he has 444 credited scores, which seems like a lot!

I had a bunch of Clint blu-rays I haven't gotten to, so I threw on High Plains Drifter last night. Not my favorite Clint western, but quite dark in tone, which is a welcome difference to most of them. Really loved the last act, starting with painting the town red. Will be a good rewatch knowing that he's just messing with them and playing them for suckers. Mordecai the clear MVP.

Threw on the original Carrie after that, which I'd never seen. It sure does open with a high school girls locker room fantasy-turned-nightmare, and all the actors are 23 or whatever, but that's a lot of supposed high-school girl nudity that feels pretty weird today.

i have seen the man with no name trilogy, but its been years. i'm gonna rewatch them all at some point. i watched HONDO last night, with the DUKE.  it was alright. felt like they really chopped it up in editing, it needed a few more scenes.

with high plains drifter, was the implication that clint's character was the dead sherriff back from hell?  he killed or let be killed everyone involved in the murder, even banged out their ladies both willingly and unwillingly. guy was on a mission. the sign saying welcome to hell was also a giveaway.

and thanks for the recommendation of CARRIE, i'll try to find that tonight.

I read one review that said it was his brother that was murdered, I assume based on the final "You know my name" line.

Carrie is on Prime. I accidentally started a 2003 remake I didn't know existed, although it only took about five minutes to be pretty sure it wasn't a Brian de Palma film.

Another older actor I've come to love over the last couple years is Robert Mitchum. Seen about 25 of his films. He has a few westerns, but really can just do it all. First one I saw was Night of the Hunter, a fever dream fairy tale, that I loved.

I saw something on twitter about DN's blackface, and then I saw a long tweet from in from 2024 about how at the time he didn't understand the history of it in the US. So I pulled up his original thread about that blog post and how absolutely defiant he was about it not being racist. Not even open to the concept, openly mocking people that even tried to bring it up, refusing to listen at all about the history of it in the US.  And a bunch of DN sycophants that used to post on here just gassing him up about how funny it was and defending him. It was really shocking how oblivious so many people were on here at the time to the idea that it might be racist, it wasn't just canadian posters. I guess all the hell he's gotten for it over the years and maybe endorsements he's lost because of it took their toll and he finally admits it was a mistake.

And then I found a thread i made about it like a week later. Apparently I was taking an FCP break at the time, and I come back and DN's in full black face and it blew my mind. My thread was super disingenuous, saying that I didn't think it was racist (but it was easy for me to say that as a white guy), but I did think it, and all DN's impressions are painfully unfunny.   Just classic me posting from that era, because 1) I absolutely did think it was racist and wasn't being honest about that part at all 2)  but my tactic back than would be to concede some point i didn't actually agree with, to make some other point that I knew would bother the person I was talking to/about more. I thought it would bother DN much more to be called unfunny than to call out the impression was racist.  I didn't want to get bogged down in PC vs non-PC stuff and wanted to really dig into how unfunny DN is ( And he still is, tbh, based on the videos I watched from the WSOP last year.) I bet DN really hated me back then.

i watched that first scene of Carrie and it wasn't at all sexy, even with the 70's bush. the music choice and camera work while she showered before the blood came was wild stuff. cinema was really something back then.

i wish i cared and could enjoy this, but its just not the same as rooting for KU.  but i have watched a lot of their games since fred took over.

you might be 75 for all we know.

had a rough one today at the office. went to chipotle for lunch - which i almost never do anymore because i'm very rarely downtown for more than a few hours in the morning, so i eat at home - and i get back to my desk and im sending some VERY IMPORTANT emails and after maybe 45 minutes i'm feeling very sick to my stomach.  i was sure i was going to puke and went to the bathroom but nothing, and so im back at my desk and my boss comes by to ask me about something and she is like what is wrong you look ghost pale. i'm not feeling to well at the moment boss, can i head home.

i never did puke though, but it took a few hours to start to feel normal again.
