I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I bet the all day bumper to bumper traffic fleeing a hurricane is a hoot

all i've ever wanted was to be a part of something. we'd all be in it together, with a bond to share for the rest of our lives.

So, just talked with the recruiter and it sure seems like the company is preparing to make an offer. The role sounds extremely interesting and challenging but I kind of got the vibe it's a bit closer to the 50 hour week type place. I thought that I'd have at least a week before they came back to me and also thought another interview with the CFO thatd id be able to look more into the culture since I totally blanked on asking those questions. First world problems, man. There's also a few other companies I have stuff in the works with that would be a preference over this role.

my man nap is in demand, and they gonna have to pay for the pleasure of his company.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

I'm not sure what took me so long, but I had a revelation the other day: Dinosaur AIDS.

Unrelated, but I'm heading to Cali tomorrow evening. Looking forward to touting the 2-year old monster on a plane for 6+ hours. Flight isn't until 6 pm, so hopefully he falls asleep rather quickly. Sister-in-law is having a baby shower. It's...open bar? And well over 100 people. Probably hit Disney on Monday. This is not cheap.

Heading to Vegas Monday. Staying at the Bellagio this time instead of the usual MGM or NYNY. Was offered some free nights at Aria as well and almost did that but decided to go with the classic. Bellagio was the first casino I ever went to in Vegas but still had never stayed there. Getting massage and straight razor shave on Tuesday, other than that playing it by ear.

--edit

May go see the distillers thursday night.

My friends are doing a few days in Vegas early December for her 30th birthday party. They're staying at the flamingo so that's probably where I'd stay. Unless there's somehow to get a free room when you dont have a players card anywhere.

Giving some serious thought to it. I've got a lot of credit card points and can have my travel and hotel paid for with that. I deserve a vacation.

Watching the Frasier halloween episode where Roz is worried shes pregnant. What a great episode.

Oh, I did. I went to bed and then woke up at like 2:30 and saw the email chain of everybody saying when their flights were getting in and so I just said screw it and booked some tickets. Get in Thursday AM. Leave Saturday PM. More than enough time for me in Vegas.

Yeah, although I haven’t booked the hotel yet. Figured that’s not near as time sensitive as getting my tickets. Wanted to do a little research on the rooms even though I know I probably won’t spend much time there.

I’m really weighing paying the $120 to upgrade to “business class” seats. Or if I want to do it just one way or not at all.

Had a call with a recruiter scheduled today and I told her about my expected offer and she started selling the role hard and was like ok now can we speed up this process and now I have an interview with the hiring manager on Monday. It’d be similar pay, maybe a little better, but with a much bigger company and growth opportunities. One major downside might be the other analyst here is interviewing for a senior role in that same department and I do not want to see this guy again much less work with him. Even a decent chance that I would be supervised by him which is a major fn no thank you.

Strat...you should move here. I don’t recall you having any real ties to KY other than your buddy who’s since f’d you over. You could make a clean break with your gf. I sincerely doubt you’d have any trouble finding a role with similar comp. it is winter 3/4 of the year though. Which might be a problem if you don’t like the cold at all.

While you can't openly trash the guy, I don't think you'd be out of line to ask about organizational structure and would it be possible to meet with the person who would be supervising you etc. I don't know if there's a cast for that.

I was supposed to leave at noon today but the low performer I inherited shit the bed in a very high profile way so that goal was blown before I even got dressed this morning. On the upside I was working on the paper work for first written notice and my bosses' boss, at the urging of the president, said make it final written notice. One more slip up and he's gone. Heck even my boss, and I suspect my bosses' boss, is getting a PIP (PIP>1st notice>final notice>termination) but not your boy Hank. I had everything fully documented on what the process was and the expectations I communicated to the team on its execution. It's not what you know, it's what you can prove. Teflon Hank mothergrabbers.

Whoa, hey, let’s wait for me to get a new job, shall we.

I don’t think any sane hiring manager would ever take me over you. Disorganized nonsense resume with no clear objective in the jobs I’ve worked. My highest value would probably have to be in something client-facing because of my designation, sadly.

I asked one of our directors once that when it came to hiring which they valued more: someone working in one area with fairly rapid progression or someone who has worked in a number of different areas still showing progression but not as fast. He said the latter because of versatility and demonstrated ability for focusing on different priorities etc. So don't devalue a varied background too much.

I haven’t been showing progression on paper for the last two years or so. It’s bad enough that I would guess I give up at least 40% to switch jobs unless the hiring manager had specific info about what I’ve been doing. It honestly feels intentional on my firm’s side, just because the title progression doesn’t necessarily have to come with big bumps... nothing is clearly defined.

I think you’re undervaluing how much places care about excel and with your PMP I don’t think you’d have a problem. Everywhere I’ve interviewed with we’ve spent most of the time talking about my automating and efficiencies made within excel. Of course, you won’t know until you start applying to places and making them tell you no thanks. Find a good recruiter or two, let them do the leg work for you.

That punt on 4th and 1, at mid field, down by 4 in the 4th quarter is the same old gutless bullshit that all these coaches do, and it's the exact moment I turned on frost. I thought he was made of better stuff, but he's just another risk adverse moron who's willing to trade possession for 20 yards of field position. God I hate football.

He goes for it if we have a healthy Martinez. No threat of QB run limits him terribly in that spot, and the o line was getting beat all day. He’s a good coach and we will win, just gonna take longer than people hoped.

Not to mention you can anticipate a 20 yard punt from a three year starter in that spot.
