InternetExplorer 2,609
I’m going to lunch with one of the guys that had input on how this raise cycle is getting handled, and I’ve decided I’m just going to be honest about the fact that everyone I’ve discussed this with has asked me if I work for a clown company. In a non-confrontational way, of course.
SuitedAces21 2,721
good luck man. i admire your fortitude. every time i want to do something similar i end up bitching out and rationalizing it by thinking it is very unlikely i could get paid more anywhere else just yet. i mean i do think that is true, but it shouldn't be holding me back. and also i don't think they would respond well to it at one of the largest employers in the world. but anyways, knock em straight. InternetExplorer 2,609
I talked to my girlfriend about it today, and word is apparently spreading quickly about the policy change. Historically, the firm would reconsider at this point, come up with some kind of compromise, etc. Now, with us missing our goals by a pretty wide margin, I’m guessing that’s not going to happen. Monday should be fun.

SuitedAces21 2,721
pretty disappointed in everyone. my most annoying beneficiary was mad today. i won't go into details, but a snippet of the conversation. "i'm getting nothing from this trust." "that's not true, you've been approved for $410,914 so far this year." "yeah but nothing else." so my day was pretty, pretty sweet.
InternetExplorer 2,609
I sent my boss a slide from a PMI thing today, talking about needing to involve people in whatever change you’re trying to enact, because their buy-in and motivations are key. Boss responds back, “I love this slide! Exactly what I’ve been trying to help you understand, sometimes you just have to make a decision for the greater good.” 1. Did you read the slide 2. Are you trying to get me to not share anything with you anymore
SuitedAces21 2,721
does this boss have a very odd sense of humor? maybe it was a joke.
InternetExplorer 2,609
No, not a joke at all. We are trying to build out better KPIs and reporting, and I’m basically just arguing that we either get everybody to agree on a method, or if it’s not seen as important enough, stop wasting time on it. My boss is directly responsible for the status quo: KPIs that nobody pays attention to, because it’s very easy to poke a hole in the methodology. For example, our close rate can and routinely does exceed 100%. That number is literally never going to sway a decision, because it’s a joke, so any time spent calculating it has no ROI. Same with retention. Every one of our clients could pull 90% of their assets, but as long as nobody takes 100%, we would keep a 100% retention rate. Truth is, our advisors only care about revenue. Leadership doesn’t want to talk to me about this stuff because it’s not seen as a good use of anyone’s time. I get it. I wish they would communicate this to my boss.

Napa Lite 3,278
I was back in DSM for a wedding all weekend. It was fun. Now, I’m procrastinating getting my stuff packed up and moved to my temporary housing while I await a resolution with the house. Really in a funk ATM. Strat, I think you would get along with my boss. We’ve had the useless KPI/reporting discussion a million times. But then anytime I get any free time to work on improvements I get volunteered by our CFO to redesign lending informational sheets or to put together a business case for a product that’s already been tacitly approved by management but just needs to have gone through the motions. I would say a major factor in all of this is that we’re just making so much money that people are complacent when nows the time when we should really be examining things. InternetExplorer 2,609
I was at lunch with two people, one of them being the comp decision maker. He was trying to needle me, asking when I am getting married to my girlfriend. I told him it’ll be three years, which led to follow up questions, where I basically said I don’t know where I’m going in my career and she isn’t going to leave this town. He starts asking probing questions about whether I want to move away, etc. It’s all just one big poker game.
Essay21 2,385
Like you said, lots of jobs out here right now, so they can step up or step the fvck out of the way. The big boss told me today that she wants to double the headcount in KC by 2022. I mean if that is happening here then smaller, easier to navigate firms must be going gang busters. Napa Lite 3,278
So just got a call from my realtor..they haven't found a house yet and it's still not a done deal but they feel bad about having made me wait and have accepted the fact they can't be as picky as they want and might have to live somewhere temporarily because they def want to move and get settled before the school year starts (she's a teacher) so they were hoping I was still interested and wondering if I might do a rent back or push the closing out some. And I said I'm not agreeing to any change in terms without a firm close date that they can't cancel on and if I have to pay to keep my rate locked they pay the fee or whatever. She was going to pass it on to their realtor and then get back to me, which hasn’t happened yet. It’s hard to get excited when it could still very much go south but I’m at least cautiously optimistic now, up from pessimisticly doubtful a few days ago.
