Napa Lite 3,278
oh I’ve been in love. If I was better at searching I’d find the convo from when I met her (and her bf) and brvy said that actually she had agreed to go on a date with me (a long time before actually meeting me) but then he never bothered to let me know this fact. brvheart 1,753
Sorry.
brvheart 1,753
This seems like a bad idea. Napa will be in love with this girl 30 days in. It will definitely be less than 30 days.

InternetExplorer 2,609
In response to this tax reform, I went ahead and canceled my charitable contributions. I am thinking about paying down my mortgage a bunch as well, since the margin rate on my brokerage is actually lower.
Napa Lite 3,278
Yeah, I need to redo my math on how much a home will cost me cash flow wise because of this. I’m also worried that I’ll be buying right before a crash.
brvheart 1,753
I'm also worried that I'll be buying right before a crash. That's definitely a concern, but we are only years removed from a pretty major crash and home prices have totally rebounded to their 2007 valuations.
Napa Lite 3,278
And don’t worry, brvy. It wouldn’t have worked out. And I’m already mentally preparing to see her as a roommate rather than female because she’s so far out of my league it’s laughable. I’m also 100% serious about exploring a roommate situation with her. I’ve lived with girls before (right now even although she’s not single). If our dogs don’t get along it won’t be because my dog is the aggressor. I’m assuming she’s a relatively clean and considerate person.
Napa Lite 3,278
That's definitely a concern, but we are only years removed from a pretty major crash and home prices have totally rebounded to their 2007 valuations. Also in my favor is that I’m not buying a super nice house and so it’d be hard for it to drop too much in value. And the payments will be well within my comfort level so as long as I don’t lose my job and take a significant pay cut I’ll be able to ride it out.
InternetExplorer 2,609
To me, that’s the biggest thing right now: ability to take a significant pay cut if I want to. Also, don’t write that girl off. She is a looker from behind.
Napa Lite 3,278
She’s not too bad looking from the front, either. She appears to be a very sweet girl from, and whether she actually was or not, she seemed genuinely interested and even a little impressed with what I was doing at the time (auditing). Any guy would be lucky to date her (probably, maybe she’s crazy, idk) and I just don’t see it for me.
InternetExplorer 2,609
We are definitely past the age where all the extraneous shit matters to the girls you want to date. I think I would do pretty ok on the open market, and you’ve seen me, I’m not a looker. I’ve got personality and stability in spades.
brvheart 1,753
I'm assuming she's a relatively clean and considerate person. She's clean. Her house was always well decorated and organized. She's also very nice. (Although she can be a tad selfish at times) 515 Alive used her front for promotion, so she can't be hideous. Her dog Thunder is nice. So he should get along well with your dog. Napa Lite 3,278
Hey, I know one of the “515 alive” guys. I wonder if we have some mutual friends. edit: other than brvy, of course
brvheart 1,753
Yeah. Totally possible. She is also going to be looking for a job, so keep your ears open. She is in quality management at Wells in DSM.
Napa Lite 3,278
I’m not sure what that means she does but I can’t imagine she’d have difficulty finding a job with all the banks up here. Might even be able to just transfer within Wells.
InternetExplorer 2,609
I was just joshing about the personality thing. I’m awful.
Napa Lite 3,278
I missed your post about your personality so I was a little confused until I went back. Agree to disagree on the importance of the “extraneous shit”. That said, I’ve got a few months to get my shit somewhat together. I could make a lot of changes in the next 3-4 months that would get me into the realm of consideration.

Internet really needs a sarcasm font. -edit Oh, it's about 90% she's more than "just ok" with butt stuff.
InternetExplorer 2,609
Maybe so. I haven’t ever really been in the dating scene. I just know what I’ve seen from the relationships around me that have turned into marriages. There are strong correlations to the stuff I mentioned. It’s probably different in different professions. Been thinking a bunch about making changes lately, either firm or general career track. For a long time now, I have felt like I’m working for a team largely comprised of people who don’t value my contributions. I am in the midst of getting this designation, and after that, don’t see any reason not to start job searching again. I could sustain a 40% decrease in comp without changing my lifestyle at all—so why wouldn’t I be exploring alternatives?
brvheart 1,753
With the end goal that you are appreciated more than compensated? I guess I'm asking if a 40% pay cut to a position where people look at you in high regard is better than making more money and people not caring if you're there or not? OR Are you saying that you're willing to "start over", so to speak, as long as your end result comp ends up being the same or better than the place that doesn't value you?
InternetExplorer 2,609
I think it would probably be something like starting over, because there is probably no way I’m worth more than $60-70k to start at some other firm. My firm just has so many selfish idiots in the ownership group, it just gives me pause about the future growth prospects. I could be way wrong, and certainly the trend is very strong growth. Not being respected, that’s a real irritation, but being realistic, that’s going to be the case at any company not created by me.
Essay21 2,385
Respect is harder to come by than money, but I’d rather have money if I can only have one. It’s a ratio to be sure, but pay me enough and I don’t care how I’m treated.
Theraflu 1,035
It's a ratio to be sure, but pay me enough and I don't care how I'm treated. This is probably going to be a pretty large part of most of your future female interactions as well.
