I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

it comes from my family experience. growing up my mother would cook all day and then complain all night that no one properly thanked her for cooking. then we'd go to my grandparents and each grandma would the same. just non stop bitching about how long it took to prepare and how thankless it was and every year i'd say i hate turkey and would prefer to go out for chinese or pizza or anything else to just relax and people would say it's a tradition and family time and i'd think why do i even want to be here.

after my parents got divorced my mom was pre complaining about the work and i flat out said you arent cooking a turkey and all that shit. I'll bring over a frozen pizza and some ice cream and we'll relax then go to movies. totally changed the holiday around. my dad, on the other hand, loves turkey but the bitching never stops with my step mom. it's a horror show that makes me consider skipping it. if my grandfather wasn't 85 and doing well i would, but i'll regret it forever if i dont see him when i can.

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

We hosted Thanksgiving last year, and it is a lot of work getting everything prepared. I never felt like bitching about it, but if I were older I could see it being kind of a pain. As with any situation involving family, alcohol helps.

I made way too much food for a party of two.

Leftovers, I guess. I just want the turkey breast and ham for sandwiches. The rest, meh. Oh, my buttered carrots were delish. The rest was cooked well, but I was over it.

Not doing it again next year unless it’s for a group. I like to cook to show off

Yeah, I have no intention of dirty macking. I don't know who initially suggested that but it's never going to happen. I do appreciate the confidence, but yeah, never going to happen. She's a good friend and that's just fine by me. She bought me lunch the other day. A burrito. There's a casino about equidistant from our workplaces that we've considered going over lunch to play some blackjack but we both know if we got stuck we'd both have a hard time leaving down and then we'd end up getting fired.

Sounds like y'all need to ditch around 2 or 3 on a Friday instead.

Went to BFK to blondie's mom's house. 25 or so people. I helped cook so the "mother in law" loves me. Helped set up and tear down tables etc so the "step father in law" loves me. Both told me even if I dump blondie I have to come back for Thanksgiving from now on. Mission: Eddie Haskell was a success.

Went to BFK

Urban dictionary was worthless in this case.

...also, I'm not sure if you know this, but you are super old.

kansas and nebraska need to be aligned for the coming war. when the coast dwellers need a place to stay after the quakes that sink california and the east coast, only a united midwest will be able to beat them back.

Not for long baby. Winter is coming.

There is a Frost in the air?

You guys are gonna get your hopes up so high and nothing is going to change. Nebraska is dead and buried. You’re one step above Kansas

Frost has 51 players on his roster that went 0-11 two years ago. He and his staff did something right, that’s for sure.

I had a pretty good thanksgiving weekend.

Thursday I just kind of hung out and watched movies with Mack. My roommate said I could come join his family for thanksgiving but I declined. I would have just been uncomfortable the whole time.

Friday we cleaned up around the house and got the place ready for the beer pong tourney. I think 30ish people came? We made food (sloppy joes) and provided the beer and some people brought sides. The teams were all drawn from a hat and some peoples parents were there so it was kinda fun to see them playing beer pong for the first time. My team won our first two games and then lost in the quarter finals to the eventual champs. Got super drunk. Mack had a blast with all the people giving him love all night. I went to bed around 1:30 while the party was still going because I had to wake up early to go home Saturday for thanksgiving.

Saturday left at like 8, got there at 11ish. Did family stuff until 5 and then I decided to just go back home rather than stay the night and leave early Sunday. Got back at around 8 and then met up with some friends to go to another friends engagement party at a bar out in BFE. We had two beers mingled a bit and then left to meet up with some other friends downtown. Had a few beers at that bar and then somebody had the idea of bowling so we went to a close bowling alley. Me and a buddy each put $20 into pull tabs at the bar while we waited for our lanes and didn’t win any money. SAD! We then bowled for an hour or so and called it a night around 1.

I slept and watched movies most of Sunday. I was exhausted.

This kind of comment proves you know nothing about college football. Sad to see you lose touch like this.

Apparently my former boss ran his mouth about a few sensitive topics in front of some advisors from a firm we work with. I was on a call with him and the other firm’s COO today, and the COO basically just ripped him a new one for like ten minutes. This firm pays us a ton of money to basically do consulting for them, and my former boss is acutely aware of the correlation between this relationship and his paycheck, and yet I watched him squirm and try to come up with a way to bullshit through the situation. The COO just basically kept saying, “this was not okay, please confirm that you’re hearing me,” and my former boss finally meekly responds, “noted.”

Kinda satisfying, but a terrible situation for my firm. The guy just can’t be trusted with client relationships.

how doe they not fire him on the spot? i mean if you can't be trusted with clients you can't work in private wealth management.

on a related topic, my brother had never seen road house, so i put it on and he was very impressed. so we can trust him.

But what about the super volcano under Yellowstone?
