Essay21 2,387
I was sitting with 475 and had Q J 9 4 double suited with spades and diamonds. There was a raise to 15, which I called. Guy behind me made 50. 3 people called so made the loose call. Flop was Q 6 4 with two hearts. Check, check and I check. Guy who made it 50 pre flop pushes out 150, fold, fold and fold. I thought for a minute and shoved. He insta called with A K 10 5 with only the 10 5 of hearts. Turn King, river ten. I was not expecting to see that hand. That's my luck though. Essay21 2,387
Th way he bet I thought he had naked aces. I was positive he didn't flop anything, and I didn't think he had the ace high draw. I really can't believe he called that.
Essay21 2,387
I feel like Hank could have warned me that the horseshoe was way out there and cabs would be scarce. I got super lucky and hitched a ride with an old black lady and her set can. Problem is she lives in the fvckin ghetto and we dropped her off and I was legit worried about getting shot. InternetExplorer 2,609
I don't know why I didn't mention this last night. I caught an error on my paystub that was hitting everyone firm-wide, was super nice about it etc. when I made mention of it, and the payroll person gave me an ambiguous "it's being handled" response. no email out to everyone explaining it, just this vague turd in my inbox. completely irritating, because if one of my guys did that in a trading context, they could expect to be fired. Napa Lite 3,279
Yeah, that seems like a terrible call for him. Let me check the odds. It's like 60/40 and he was getting 2:1. So basically if he put you on exactly what you had I guess it's ok-ish? But that's like absolute best case scenario for him. If you have a combo of a heart or a set of a bigger FD or straight draws he's in deep trouble. Yeah. I don't like it by him. Tough break.
brvheart 1,759
I'm here for you. And also that cabbie fvck didn't tell me it's 1.5x the fare until we got there. ****in 70 bones. I don't even understand the idea of using a cab versus Uber or Ventra. Of course in the case of having to go to the Horseshoe, you would have died on the Ventra, since you would have to go through the Southside. I'm sure Scram just hangs out on the southside CTA to troll everyone into thinking he's a superhero, but there is a 0% chance I will ever ride the bus or train south of the U of Chicago. One time, taking a kid to the Museum of Science & Industry (Which is right next to UofC), I was about ready to miss my stop. The entire bus (seriously) started yelling at me to get off. They said "this is your stop.", and told the driver to wait. I was the only white person on the bus, and I was thankful that they were looking out for me.
Essay21 2,387
There was no chance I was taking public trans of any kind. And I don't have the über app so that left a cab. And I didn't think it would be a big deal since it's the closet casino to the third biggest city in America.

The least likely hand I have is the one I did. Most often I have him crushed in every way, and he didn't even hesitate. Win that and I'm sitting with 1100 or 1200 and only in for 200 and with the way that table was playing the sky was the limit. Fvck man.
Napa_Don 688
Live PLO seems like such a gold mine. The local casino has a game that runs once a week at like 7 on Tuesday's but it's full of regulars who usually play 2/5 and it plays way bigger and looser and they are better than I would like. brvheart 1,759
Typically we get our raises on the first check after 7/1. They changed the review process this year so raises don't come into effect until 9/1. Because of this they made a big deal about how it wasn't fair to us or something and so they would pretend that the raises were effective 7/1 and we would have a true up on our 9/1 check. Well, as you know, I got a promotion and I was excited to get around an extra $300 on this check. But when I looked at my pay stub yesterday and didn't see an adjustment I was a little confused. So I went and asked the payroll lady if my true up was just baked into my raise and she said no, it's just that people who got promotions didn't get the true up. And even if I did it turns out they're paying it out over the next 12 months instead of a lump sum so it would have been barely noticeable anyways. No big deal. Enter today: the payroll lady stopped by my desk and told me she had been getting angry emails and calls all day from people asking where their "bonus" was. Like yelling at her and slamming phones down angry. Apparently some managers were telling people that they would get their bonus. And almost no managers, mine included, didn't make it clear that promotion meant no bonus. To top it off being Labor Day weekend the important HR people were gone and a lot of affected people probably weren't even in office so unless HR sends out a clarifying email she'll likely have to deal with it on Tuesday. I can't wait to see HR's response. I get so irritated with that stuff. be accountable, explain the situation. anticipate when what you're doing isn't going to meet expectations, and be ahead of it. it's a wash to the company, so why have people angry about it? I don't know why I didn't mention this last night. I caught an error on my paystub that was hitting everyone firm-wide, was super nice about it etc. when I made mention of it, and the payroll person gave me an ambiguous "it's being handled" response. no email out to everyone explaining it, just this vague turd in my inbox. completely irritating, because if one of my guys did that in a trading context, they could expect to be fired. There are few things in life that annoy me as much as an HR person. So little critical thinking and so much general wariness. Their entire mentality isn't to make anything efficient, it's to assume that everyone is out to screw them. Not the company, mind you, but them personally. It's f-ing ridiculous. (I realize that this is just a generalization and that there are, in fact, decent HR people somewhere.) I was in the HR office this week. They know I'm buying a lot of equipment online and I'm waiting for them to pay off credit cards. Instead of just raising my limit, they told me to just use the cards of two of my bosses instead. Does that even make sense? So I use my card (which only has a 20k limit) and the cards of the two bosses, and still need more stuff, but have to wait until the cards are paid off because HR refuses to pay them off early (even though I have money set aside for beginning of the year start-up costs that can't be used for anything else). They finally pay off half the cards (But don't pay off everything because I bought stuff 2 days after the billing cycle, so they are waiting to pay that at the end of October for no reason (remember, they can't use that pool of money for anything else. It's in a separate account even)). I ask the lady if she can let me know if my boss has free space on his card, because I don't have enough space even if my card was fully paid off. Ironically, she doesn't even blink at the request if he has enough room. She immediately looks it up and tells me he does have plenty of room. She then says, "You need to buy fifteen thousand MORE?" As if purchasing decisions are even in her realm at all. "No. I need to spend about 51k more, but a lot of that I won't need until Spring. But I will need 15k or more this semester. She gives me a really serious look, and says, "Now. Do you have permission to use his card? Because I'm going to need written... email or hard copy... permission from him before you can use it." I just looked at her like she was insane and asked, "How would I get his card info without his permission? If I hadn't already used his card, wouldn't this entire conversation be really weird?" The answer to these questions didn't even penetrate her brain, but she instead reminded me that HR needed documented proof that I had permission to use his card. I told her without sarcasm, "thanks for the info", and left. She didn't seem mad at me, and I was scanning her face for anger. She still had that air of superiority and annoyance that she had just "told me off"... so I was glad for that. I didn't want to make her mad. I'm not even going to mention that interaction with my boss and I will be purchasing my items with his card on Tuesday, and then delivering the signed PO with the shipping label to her desk when the stuff arrives. If she mentions "permission" again, I will just have her look at any of the PO's that I turned in that all have my boss's signature. (Which is just another reason that her entire high-horse was retarded.) Brvy, idk if you heard but we felt that earthquake in DSM. I thought my building was about to collapse. Pretty wild. I've been seeing it on Facebook. That's pretty interesting. That would have been a first for me in Iowa. I was in a pretty large one in LA when I was in high school. We were in a trailer or mobile home or something (it was at a camp) and we thought the entire camp was screwing with us by pushing it back and forth. We were falling down at stuff, and couldn't walk straight. It was pretty wild. It takes one minute to download the uber app, another two minutes to input a credit card for payment, or less if you have PayPal already set up I used uber last night. $7 for a ride home. Weeeeee Stop being a stubborn old man. My brain is hurting trying to understand Suited. There were probably 50 Ubers within 3 minutes of him on his walk home.

InternetExplorer 2,609
our HR person is fine. our compliance person is occasionally the absolute worst. like literally, lied to my face, "this has been our policy since day one." "so why does partner x get to do it?" "he is grandfathered in." I dropped it at that point, despite the obvious logical problem. I'd rather have a healthy working relationship with the CCO. the partners do whatever the f they want, and compliance generally just rationalizes the double standard away. my favorite, a partner wanted to buy calls on some dumbass company, which was not allowed. they didn't want to open up a new oversight responsibility on everyone, so now long calls are allowed, provided you meet sky high annual income or net worth requirements, equivalent to amounts only partners could possess. I would have chuckled a little, but not in a sarcastic way, and then made my hands into a scale rocking back and forth... "Day one.... grandfathered. Day one....grandfathered". David_Sklansky 1,904
Oh cool I paid 15 bucks to cab over to a bar that everyone's at and they won't let me in cause it's at capacity. Fvckin big cities man. Two things. First, fire codes don't apply to groups with a proportional number of women in them. That's the main reason to have a S.O. if you're a straight man. Second, I'm actually torn on Uber. As a friend of labor, it saddens me that it's ended a profession that used to be a viable way for a poor person to put a roof over their heads and even support a family. On the other hand, I appreciate that the uber labor force is lousy with 30y/o middle class college grads who get paid just enough to drink on the weekend while living rent free with their parents. I'd be willing to pay Uber a premium to provide assistance to out of work immigrants, while still taking advantage of millenials to provide the actual labor.
