I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

Camping seems awful. I don't like bugs, sleeping on the ground, crapping in a hole or anything else. I like ac, Kitchens, toilets and doors

Can avoid the bugs if you go at certain times in certain regions - I suspect mosquitoes might be awful around here though...they're bad enough around dusk in the burbs. If you get a sleeping mat or blow-up mattress, it's not great...but not terrible. As for crapping in the woods, I've somehow avoided having to do it. I used to have a notoriously long cycle between poops (like 5-7 days). I am concerned that I could no longer do that since I go like once or twice a day.

Also, going camping gives you new appreciation for the things you mentioned when you come back.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

So in Cobalt news, I got a pretty hefty settlement amount from that car accident where I got hit from behind in December. Going to be nice to not have to stress as much for a while.

That's awesome! Are we talking 6 figures? 9? Give us a range at least!

Spent maybe two hours talking project stuff with the CEO over the weekend and today. At this point, I think I’m good. You hear of this political wrangling and relationship building, and you know it was behind every successful corporate career, but it’s another thing to personally experience it. We are at something like 200 employees, so it’s not like this was some high stakes game. I’m just tired of the roller coaster.

Dude was just bored and wanted to go super deep on some numbers I’ve been putting out, and he realized I was in the office on Saturday. Totally arbitrary.

Sounds like Slippin' Colby just upgraded from an Odyssey right into a proper X7.

I'll probably pull around $75k when the dust settles.

We bought a Town & Country about a month after the accident. Not exactly what I expected to get into...but it was decently urgent, and the price was right. We will be trading my wife's Mazda 6 for a different vehicle soon. Not quite sure what we're going to get.

i’ve been eating at the chipotle, instead of taking it home, so it feels like i went somewhere. it works mostly, the nights don’t feel as long when you go home first, then go back out.

I never go to Qdoba. it is inferior to chipotle, and, as you know, I'm a stickler for quality. went to the casino last night. made what i think was a bad fold of aces after the flop, but it was 7 ways to the flop after I raised to 20. flop was 7 8 9 (two clubs) and a guy under the gun leads out for 80. two people call before me, so there is 380 out there and its 80 to me. I didn't see how I win this hand by the river so I folded, fearing having to call it off on the turn and river (bet 150 on the turn, 200 on the river). turns out I would have scooped them all, two guys missed a flush draw, one guy just a naked ten. ace high won the hand - showed after betting 200 on the river. oh well.

I think that scenario is like the 1% of the time you win that hand.

that's definitely what I was thinking in the moment. I think I should have floated one more to see what happened on the turn, given the pot odds on the flop bet when it gets to me. but I'm much happier to analyze a fold than a bad call.

You know what would have made me a better player back in the day? The on-the-fly percentage equity the sites now show after you're all-in. Would have learned the odds quicker, and would have been more even-keeled about losing as a favorite.

I'm legitimately worried about you dude. How do you feel about social clubs? Golf? Church? AA? I don't know, but it seems like you need some sort of outlet that includes people.

I got a raise. I was expecting to get around 28% or so, and only got 11%. I was disappointed, but not angry. I didn't quibble and just signed the contract. I wasn't expecting much of a raise next year, so now I'll just push for at least 15% next year. It's just going to be tough, but I'm guessing they are only going to offer around 3% next Spring, so I better start polishing my resume.

Something interesting about my contract. This year is the first year that I've seen this provision, but it says if I break the contract I have to pay $1k, but that they can break it at any time with no penalty. I'm guessing nobody else here works on a contract, so I'm not sure who to ask about the legalities. Of course, it won't even matter since I'm not planning to break my contract, but whatever.

I, too, am worried about my best friend SA and hopes he can find some help.

Brvy...I feel like your trying to get our goats here with your talk of expected 28% raise but only got 11%?! I thought you were making pretty good coin already, were you making like $9/hr or something?

So I've been (re)reading Notes from Underground by Dostoyevsky with one of my students, and I can't help but think that the narrator reminds me of some folks in here.

Notes is considered by many to be one of the first existentialist novels. It presents itself as an excerpt from the rambling memoirs of a bitter, isolated, unnamed narrator (generally referred to by critics as the Underground Man), who is a retired civil servant living in St. Petersburg.

It's not a long read FWIW, and the gloom ends up being funny at times.

On my trip back yesterday, my connecting flight got canceled, and the person at the service desk was straight-up lying to me about it. Blaming me or the booking agency for it. I’m not usually one to dig in and get angry at a service person, but when you are aggressively trying to make me feel like the culprit, and I have a smart phone and can prove you wrong, I get angry for the little old woman that is sheepishly backing down in that spot.

Anyway, she booked a flight she knew I was not going to be able to make, and I got back much later than I would have. I don’t have delusions about why she did that to me.

I hit South Florida for a quick trip. Left after work Thursday, met a friend for a bit, then slept at my brother’s apt at the beach, got up early, played golf, which was delightful, had lunch, met friends out that night, slept at a friends house, got up at 6am, uber’d to my car, made stops at two different stores they don't have up here, stopped at a friends house and was home by noon.

So, in 53 hours, I was at work for 9, in the car for 6, slept around 12, and socialized the rest.

Always so good to be back home, be with the doggies, be in my own bed tonight. As I get older, I drink less and like being home more, but still occasionally like the ride up from having some drinks and catching a nice buzz

I only shared this boring post because I feel like I contribute nothing.

My golf game was shit. Last Saturday, it was better. I gotta put some time in at the range and iron some crap out. Not a lot of ranges around here. Close one is only a practice range, 180 yards max
