I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

I didn’t take any days off this week either, nap. So I’m right there with you. I mean I don’t have any friends and I’m at home watching tv but I’m with you.

I did take three days off next week though.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

I was going to take tomorrow/Friday off but then with the news of the bank sale I figured I’d just work in case I need to cash them out but then I decided to just use them when I close on the house to move.

The grumpy parent in me was annoyed with neighbors shooting off fireworks at 12:50 last night. I mean, I like fireworks a lot...but be a little considerate.

That’s not being grumpy, it’s being a decent person. Only hooligans without respect for others do things like that - like my neighbor who brought a screaming child home at midnight last night. Terrible parenting, kid should have been asleep hours earlier but the parent lacks a back bone and common sense, so I suffer.

Great, now I'm the ******* because I was like "hey, don't want to be a buzzkill but it's almost 9" and they're like "no prob, we'll finish up our game" and then they were like "well, can you just get an Uber from the beach we want to watch the firework?" And I'm like " are you serious? I can't get in an Uber soaking wet". And then they offered to walk the boat to shore and I'm like fine, **** it, but I'm not getting in the water. I didn't even want to come but you talked me into it because you said we'd only be a few hours." And now everybody's leaving and I'm the *******.

I'm with your friends on this one. Holidays require max flexibility, and you need to Uber in that situation.

I said I would Uber home! But unlike you I can’t walk on water and I was in the middle of a lake on a boat. And shore was within swimming distance but I didn’t have a change of clothes for the Uber. They’re the ones who changed the plans and then wouldn’t work with me on a reasonable solution.

IM NOT WRONG, IM NOT WRONG I screamed into the abyss.

I just want the record to show that I was playing on the joke that we used to use Brvy as a substitute for god and that he can literally walk on water. Not in a sarcastic way.

I would kill for Brvy.

My boss wants us to right a “bio” for ourselves for our CFO to take with him to the new banks HQ next week and I just don’t want to do it. I already told my boss I’m not interested in having to spend the next year auditioning for a chance to maybe get to keep my job and that’s exactly what this feels like. Especially if they want to retain the other analyst, too. That’s a no for me, dawg. No way would I sign up to work with him again.

Edit: in positive news, my buddy in Vegas cashed another tourney for $2500 the other day so that’s another $125 for me. He’s currently playing the $1,500 WSOP event. Should be around $400k to first, so that’d be cool if he won that.

good call, we don't need that kind of scrutiny.

I just caught a glimpse of the bad parent next door and it’s five people living in a one bedroom apartment. Grandma, mom, teenager, 8 year old and baby. There should be rules against this, but it’s time to find a more expensive place to live.

Pretty sure there are rules against that. So much so that they’re called laws.

But I agree, you need a more expensive place. If somebody like that can get through the screening process what kind of slum are you living in?! A place with a doorman, if those even exist in KC.

i don't know but i'm going to look into it. there's a really nice new apartment complex out by the casino and race track, but that would leave me subject to nascar fans once or twice a year, and i don't know about that.

If I moved back, that is probably where I would live. Central to where my family lives, easy drive to Lawrence, etc.

I currently live in a place that has a similar level of traffic, more frequently, and it’s not a big deal to just plan around it.

Bumble is so frustrating because I thought the attractive single mother would give me a chance, and she will not. I mean if you’re a 28 year old single mother, your ex is a loser and your son needs stability how will not swipe right on a local attorney? Society is collapsing around us because of shit like this.

I asked around, seems like my boss just looked at salary ranges, decided that 5% was appropriate because that’s the kind of treatment she got coming up. No one else was consulted. I am in a tough spot, because the CEO basically promised me a much higher ceiling when I took this role. So I’m gonna sit down with him and explain the situation, and try to communicate that I don’t want to burn bridges with my boss, but that I’m not in this to be a 9-5, middling employee.

Not as bad as I thought initially, but still a hard situation for the next several years.

Is your boss threatened by your competence? Has she hit her "peter principle" level?

I think my boss just anchors to salary ranges, and resents that my last group is so much better compensated than she ever was. Truth is, she doesn’t have any designations and can’t write code. She started working four days a week years ago. I think she decided a long time ago that better comp wasn’t possible in this track...

the problem is most people are morons. like 95% of people. and obviously that is going to include almost every boss you're ever going to have. it includes all of mine so far and probably ever one i'll have until i move to the legal department, but even then it's still no guarantee. i'm not entirely sure what strat's job is at this firm, but i don't think he is a financial adviser (meaning up front sales guy) so he is going to be undervalued. the only people that seem to matter in this business are the "sales" guys and no matter how bad they are at actually selling the get compensated more than us because they are great at BSing some moron manager. it's a sad world we live in.

I have a lawyer friend that I legitimately thought might be retarded at one point. He was really really stupid. (We worked at U-Haul together and I had to walk him through filling out a rental contract so many times that I ended up moving him to another job completely because he just couldn't do it right.) It was the most surprised I've ever been in a "where are they now" when I heard he was a lawyer in Chicago.

I’m not an advisor. I basically just maintain a few products that make life easier for the advisors. Operations.

Advisors aren’t overly empowered at my firm, because they’re all constrained by a non-solicitation everyone had to sign a year ago. They included verbiage in the non-solicitation specifically targeting my code. I was flattered. Total nonsense, completely unenforceable unless it’s a client on the record saying you called them. Nice idea though.
