If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

I will move to a really nice $900/mo apartment when I'm making $50k. that will be my one dumbass expenditure. someday I might look at getting a condo but I'd have to talk to someone who knows more about real estate to decide if it's worth it. my roomie is heavily against them.

I'm sure some of you have experiences owning condos, go ahead and share, I would like to hear your take.

Nice apartments are overrated.

IE, you visited my neighborhood. I am wedged into the cheapest one bedroom I could find. I'm paying $1200/month, and I think it's absolutely worth it.

I don't value it because I like the apartment--it's in a poorly maintained building, the walls are thin, and the place gets stuffy. When we finally have a major earthquake, I will be able to pop up through the debris like Godzilla because I swear this place has no studs or joists.

I value it because of the location, to my work, and what I can consider my neighborhood. When I lived in Chicago, I lived in Boystown and overpaid there, too. It's absolutely worth it to me--to live in walking distance of cool things, in an interesting area. I will never earn enough to be able to purchase a place in an area I like.

OK, fine, nice apartments are overrated in places with reasonable home ownership prices compared to median income.

I somehow got distracted on the mrporter website. I wish I could afford to dress myself from that website alone. Remember when we had that big $5 shirt vs. $450 shirt discussion? Somebody on a reddit made a great post about that comparing the two. I wish I could have this shirt because it is way cool.

you do live in a very nice area. I notice that you left off your address in this post, which is OK.

my friends' place was like $1500/mo, which was actually fairly cheap for them. walking vs. driving isn't such a huge deal here.

I think you just find home ownership BS less unappealing than I do.

That is undoubtedly true, but any of that "BS" could just as easily be paid with the money you'd have to pay to your HOA and it would be on your terms and you also wouldn't have to deal with any possible power starved HOA board members.

Napa has a table saw, and you don't buy something like that without really wanting a house.

Napa, I liked that reddit comparison on design and clothing. For me, I always have to try clothes on to see how something fits. I do almost no internet clothes or shoe shopping.

a lot gets decided next week--everyone is sitting down with the guy who decides raises. pretty much determines whether I wasted the last few months with this place. I'll be able to dial back the miserness if it goes decently for me.

I miss boulevard beer. having to drive 30 minutes for it is such a drag. they have boulevard in LA but not here...

I'm still pretty insecure in this job not having a clue what winter will be like and they have this archaic system, (actually plenty of them) that if you fall below par for 3 consecutive months you are fired. I mean, that's basically falling below our offices average close rate. And so many of these appt's are just ****ed up wanting repairs, no shows, etc...

With that said I've averaged about $8k the first two months and been in the top 5 both months so I'm feeling pretty confident. I have pretty much let the wife and me blow it all so far. We got new furniture, I bought a car, dropped a shitload on vacation shopping for fun stuff like art and pottery, and bought some frivolous landscaping wants like trees and plants and dragons.

I am just pointing out how far away we are from points on the spectrum. Had I always acted with your thrift I could be retired right now. Then again, there's a certain urgency to my method. I always think it's just money and I can go make some more, there is plenty of it out there. And I never have a cap on my income, if I want more I can always earn it which is a benefit of sales. Yeah, I should have more saved for the retirement years but I'm probably in better shape than most.

You only live once, have a little fun. Go with NAPA and rock out in the ATL.

I wish I had a little more of what Strat has. I grew up poor and was fine, in college I barely had two nickels to rub together and had all my possessions in a 8x10 room I shared with another dude and those were some of the best days of my life. I need to get back to that in someways.

Speaking of college...had a college friends wedding this weekend. The wedding was outside and started 30 minutes late and it was a million degrees with no breeze and I probably lost five pounds just waiting for it to start. Everything after that was a blast though. Got to see some friends I haven't seen in awhile and was reminded why I didn't bother seeing some of them for awhile, but that's OK.

We ended up not going to the beach yesterday. I just couldn't get motivated to drive all the way over there and deal with crowds. So, after some morning el sexo the wife and I went down to the casino, Pechanga, for a few hours.

They have a $100 max buy in 1/2 game that had open seats so I jumped in. Good got that was a juicy game. Unfortunately I've been on this long run that I can't call a bad run, it just hasn't been a good run. I get decent to very strong starting hands but it's just so rare to make flush/straight draws. So anyway, once again I left with a small profit. I've been playing zero profit/loss poker for about 4 months. Lot's of free entertainment but still frustrating. That said, I could still improve my play/opportunities too.

I did not get the Mississippi job. They gave it to the candidate that is in MS currently. Even though I was told he wasn't considered as a favorite to get the job. What pissed me off was that the Senior DO/hiring manager didn't call me himself, he had my boss tell me. So I e-mailed him asking for some time for feedback...I'll be damned if I'm going to let him off the hook. So that happens in about 15 minutes. Should be interesting.

Thanks.

But I think you're referring to the multiple pictures that were just posted of me from a wedding last year and I personally think my hair looks terrible as does the rest of me. But thanks. There was only one picture from this weekends wedding posted (a selfie of me and BC) that I untagged immediately because a) it was not a good picture and b) basketball reasons.

Speaking of BC...officially resigned today. Had a little department meeting about it and everything. And now the analyst position they created for her seems to be mine for the taking according to her manager and also mine. It would come with a decent pay raise and a lot more visibility from senior management from my understanding. We'll see how it all shakes out.

I was told that during the interview I knocked it out of the park and the entire panel was really happy with how I presented myself. He said he found it hard to give feedback because it's a "relative process". Meaning that there were other people considered that may have been a better fit for whatever reason, cultural, geography etc... He said if there were anything I did or said that was a problem, that feedback would have already been given so he didn't really have much more to tell me.

Again, the person that ultimately got the promotion already lives in MS and he all but said that's why they gave it to him. So now the question is, if another position comes up and there's a DM in the running that already lives in the area the position is for should I even bother? Thinking back, the 2 regional managers that they hired from outside of the company already lived in the area they were hired for. The current MS regional was hired from outside the company, about the same time I was hired, and moved to MS, but other than that every hire has come from the area.

So, probably time to either decide I'm just going to be happy (ish) being a DM here or look outside the company if I hope to move up in title/position.

No on Wisconsin. I told them before the interview process that I wasn't interested in moving there. I haven't heard yet who got it but I know there others interviewing for that area so I'm assuming that they chose one of them.

Be more confident next time, tilty. That should take care of all this nonsense.

Lady from another firm accused me of illegally dragging my feet. I politely informed her she was a moron and hung up.

Strat, I got invited to another wedding this fall. I'm only counting it as a half invite though because I know a bunch of my other friends got invites months ago and so I assume I only got invited because enough people said they wouldn't be able to attend.

It's the saturday of a music festival I've had tickets to for almost a year now and the festival is 6 hours away from the wedding, so I probably I won't be attending.

yep

There is a place right at the bottom of that hill called The Kettle that is open 24 hours and has some of the best drunk diner food ever. Pancakes and Waffles at 3:00 AM? Yes please.

sounds awesome. I'm a fan of terrible food decisions.

looked at this motif investing company? talked to them the other day, sounded like they are perfect for smaller shops.
