If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

How did you know I have bony ankles?I was raised to associate the word Socialism with evil and stupidity, but I'm actively trying to counter all of my brainwashing. We should be a progressive society and find a way to make univeral healthcare work. There should be jobs with pay at a living wage for anyone willing to work.Yes, I've been reading Vonnegut.
I've always been a fan of you, but I really like what you've had to say lately, no homo.Universal healthcare will never work in the US. If for no other reason than any socialized system, even some sort of hybrid, would not be viable for at least ten years. A free market system works, but there are lots of things that need fixing. Lots. It's not a factor of coverage not being available, it's an issue of people not wanting or being able to afford it. Don't get me wrong, a family paying $1,500 a month for health insurance is too much. But I don't think people think enough about why it's so expensive. It's not just profit for anyone involved. Since ERs don't turn anyone away, and the uninsured are using ERs as their sole point of care, they're cost of doing business skyrockets. That's only a tiny piece of the puzzle. It's way too complex to attempt to discuss in a paragraph, and I don't want to ramble.
I don't mean to come off like I'm against socialism or anything. I think we do a decent job of balancing its influences here, other than with healthcare. Also, I find it hilarious how Hillary's plan with healthcare changed so drastically since the days when she was first lady. A decade and some campaign contributions later...
I wonder what will change if she gets elected.

Nothing, or just another step in the wrong direction, I assume. Forcing more people into paying for health insurance doesn't seem like the right solution to me, but I've only been through the entry level econ courses, so what do I know...

It's not really any one thing. Like you said, requiring insurance might not be the best idea, since everything is going to cost money, it's just a matter of who gets the bill. Lowering the amount of uninsureds is a good idea, it's hard to say what the correct way to do that is. States don't have universal regulations relating to health care, so what happens in Colorado isn't the same as what is happening in Maine. A lot of states have similar programs, but getting universal guidelines would be difficult, since you're always going to make someone mad.I won $125 tonight playing the bowling game like Golden Tee. I'm going to Sizzler tomorrow for sure.

As I said a long time ago when we had this debate, I think the most obvious solution to reducing costs is making changes to malpractice laws, but there's a rather large lobby against that, obv..It's a complex issue and I openly admit I don't know enough about it.

I absolutely agree with you about malpractice. But kids are getting in trouble for sex-related issues younger and younger, so people feel that they have to protect themselves. I read an article today about a teacher who reported a 8 (I think) year old because when she gave him a hug, she felt like he buried his head in her chest. It's absurd how people will sue anybody for anything.I don't want to edit my earlier post. Some changes are being made though. I saw statistics from a life insurance company this week, and right now tobacco users pay about 10-15% more than non. In the next 4 years, they'll pay 40% more. In six years they'll pay 100% more, and in nine years they'll pay 300% more. Health insurance will follow somewhat. If people had to pay for their bad habits then they'd be more inclined to make healthier choices. I'm not talking about the chronically ill either. You're right though, that we've gone over this before.I'm going to bed.

Did you know that malpractice insurance for a private Ob/Gyn can be as high as $250,000 a year. Chew on that for a minute.

I've heard from a pre-med friend of mine that it's not uncommon for a doctor to ship half his/her net earn for malpractice insurance. how about just stop ****ing up, amirite?

It has nothing to do with that, very high liability to peform c-sections and high risk births, also the number 1 medical professional sued.

I was joking, etc. My brother told me that Hopkins actually had a course devoted to teaching the soon-to-be doctors how to avoid getting sued. The psyc studies on that are interesting as well.have a good day, I'm going to sleep now.

I feel sick today, but I have this hot chick to warm me during the winter, ho-ho-ho!PS If I'm still sick next week I'll tell my boss that I'm going South to take care of my health.
Medical Tourism is something that you're going to see insurance carriers start to cover. Hospitals are moving forward building relationships with hospitals in Mexico, Thailand, South Africa, etc.In the next couple of years, you'll start to see insurance carriers help pick up the cost of travel, as well as cover the cost of care. I've seen examples of hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings for a single operation. I fairly certain that other countries don't have the medical malpractice laws that we do, that is why they can afford to charge so little, and still make mobnies doing so.I'm going ice fishing, where I won't see any evidence whatsoever of global warming.

I think some HMO's are already doing this for surgeries in India.

I have a buddy that graduated from there with an Electroic Engineering degree. He is poker room manager at a local casino, lets just say he makes more money from non-poker related activities. Also if you have never been there, its a pretty cool place, if you can get past all the smelly hippies.
