Actuary's Favorite Hand Is In Trouble Again...

no read?given we only have one overcard and no draws to protect against, I don't see the point of Raising here. We're either WB or he's drawing to 5 outs or lessI imagine he c/r or 3-bets a K on flop, and c/r two pair here.Given my confusion/coureosity, I'd call down.

what strange play from a TAP.It's not like he has to prevent a free card play here and bet his 66.those stats are putting me into the fold column, given the <3:1 to call down. But alas, I still probably see it to SD.Value Bet river if checked to. Fold to a c/r.

I just hate calling down in pots this small. That's not to say I don't do it here, but I wouldn't like it. Especially against someone that tight PF. After all, the donk bet (as I've said) is the play that confuses me the most, so I probably call down out of consternation. But it can definitely be assumed that he didn't just hit two pair being that tight, so he either limped with KQ (I would assume he wouldn't limp AK, but you never know), or a small/medium pocket pair and hit a set or just thought you were continuation betting after the flop with specifically AQ and that his pair is good.So I suppose the more I think about it, the less likely we are to be ahead in this pot, but I still probably couldn't fold.

This seems to scream to me that he is slow-playing something like two pair (maybe K7s or something) or a set, or even something like A-K, so I think I would fold here with the small pot, but my usual tendency is to fold the pocket pairs fairly quickly after an overcard hits given any amount of aggression, fearing the worse far more often then it seems is recomended. But in this situation, I just can't imagine us being ahead here enough to call, especially with his stats.

I just realized something. Check out this thread I previously posted. Compare the villains line in this hand and my line in the other hand. Here's the hand from the other thread:

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (10 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cxPreflop: Hero is SB with A :), 9 :club:. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, 5 folds, Hero completes, BB raises, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, Hero calls.Flop: (8 SB) 2 :), Q :D, 9 :)(4 players)Hero checks, BB bets, UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 folds, Hero calls.Turn: (5 BB) 4 :D(2 players)Hero bets, BB calls.River: (7 BB) 2 :D(2 players)Hero checks, BB checks.Final Pot: 7 BB
I use the same line here, and I got to showdown for 1 BB. Villain had AA.Relating this to the OP, is there any reason to suspect that people actually use this line OOP for a reason?I'm not even sure what I'm thinking yet, but I may develop some theories. I really need to work on my play when I'm donked into. I actually ended up folding the QQ here, but I really wish I hadn't, for pure informational purposes.Anyways, give me your thoughts, and I'll be back tonight with mine.- Zach

donk bets freeze usWe aren't laggy enough / confident enough to spit it back in there face.SSHE just tells us to fold in small pots.It is read dependent. It is often a foldBut sometimes, It's a Raise/FoldOr Raise river / foldor other stuff we dont even think of...We all want to showdown cheaply and not get outplayed. How do you decide that this is the time to Raise/Fold ?Board Texture and Reads.Experience.my 0.02.Edit to Add: Check Raises and 3-bets show strength, Donk bets are ambiguous. Maybe he has Mid PP and thinks we raised flop with a draw, maybe he has a set and wants us to raise again, maybe he has nothing and wants us to fold in a small pot....So be much more willing to fold to a c/r, and/or call turn with proper odds and fold river UI (I'm learning that play more) than you are to donk bets all else being equal.
