KDawgCometh 2
i didn't know he was broke. how did that happen?well, he was staked for a long time. There has been rampant speculation about him being busto or not since somehow it got broke that Thomas Kellar was staking him and Scott fled out of the deal leaving Kellar in the lurch for 400K worth(that number is most likely on the high end, but the point is that Scott most likely screwed over THomas). He tried to quash the rumors on 2p2 in the thread about him, but it just seemed that he was more on his heels then anything else. Look like after tonights melt down that the rumors are true. THe fact is there's a very good amount of players that are broke and need to be staked, but this stuff will never really get out in the open as the internet is a small portion of those that play. This will be all over the message boards, but I can garnutee you that only like 5% of those that play on the internet will ever find out about this

gmanshade 0
Bottom line, I just don't understand why poker players go end up going broke so often. It's really not that hard to manage money. Well, look. It is not a coincidence that every major poker player has an addiction to a game where they have no edge, or where they will inevitably lose--matusow and layne flack with sports betting, t.j and phil ivey, josh arieh with craps, doyle bettting on golf, etc. Since Freud first described basic psychoanlytic principles (the beginning of the 20th century), the psychoanalytic take on gambling has been the same: the gambler inherently wants to lose. Psychoanalysts say that although we all talk about winning, and how to win, what we really want to do is go broke. And whether you buy that or not, it seems to me pretty powerful evidence that almost every multimillionaire poker player is in serious financial straits because they gamble in games where they are bound to go broke. I enjoy gambling on things other than poker from time to time. I'm actually a pretty awful prop bettor, I lost a decent amount of money (to me) at golf last summer and I'm probably down overall betting football (mostly big games or season-long pools). But, I still do it for the rush, so I understand that side of it. However, I'm also very competitive and no matter what Freud might say, I ALWAYS want to win whenever I make a bet. That's why I avoid casino games (I've only ever played blackjack and video poker and that was before I found a Casino in the area with live poker). I also know how to keep my poker bankroll separate from my other money and how to not gamble what I can't afford to lose. I just don't quite see why others can't be more responsible is all.I guess maybe it's that knowledge that there are people out there gullible enough to stake them.

minorityreport 0
Ultimately, I don't give a $hit about this Fischman thing, but I decided to throw my two cents. I don't think it's correct to judge a man when he shows that he has human tendencies. We've all gone on anger rants when drunk before. It's not like he's actually hurting anyone. You all act like you've never had some sort of breakdown like that or shown your a$$ at one point. He's human, obviously something is going bad in his life right now,-- might be financial,--might be purely personal. Leave it at that, and stop gossiping like little high school girls. You know absolutely nothing about the guy. There's also a chance he's being ironic, just pushing the envelope (and testing reactions) on losers that actually give a crap what people type in a chat while playing poker. Irony is hard to detect with mere text.

There are obv. some pro's who keep a lower profile. I always got the impression Fischman had bigger plans and was trying to get $$ away from the table. Guess I was wrong... I always got the impression Fischman had bigger plans and was trying to get $$ away from the table. Guess I was wrong...There are some pros out there who manage their money well and keep a lower profile. Fischman isn't one of them. The truth is, unless you are involved in the high-stakes tournament circuit, everything is rumor/gossip. Indeed, Scott mentioned that he owes Thomas a large sum of money, but who cares? When you gamble for a living, this shouldn't come as a shock. I feel for Thomas because I have backed plenty of people that have stiffed me. Most gamblers have some sort of leak(s): Craps, blackjack, sports betting, or even staking people. For Mr. Keller and I, it is putting our friends in action. I'm trying to work on this, but it is sometimes tough to say no. Unfortunately, staking arrangements almost always end poorly.
