Question About Tourney Psychology

Recommended Posts

A perfect poker player would always bust out of a tournament with the best hand. It is the nature of the beast. If you only lose becuase of getting sucked out on, then you are playing above average poker. You should check out the tournament strategy section, there is some great advice in there. One key thought is that if you can manipulate the situation so that you seldom go to showdown, you have less chance of getting sucked out on. In otherwords, if the combination of your preflop action and post flop action is properly executed, you seldom need the best hand to win a pot. Carefull with this thought, it could spell your ruin if you are not careful.

Poker sucks because you can make all the right moves, and lose. It's gambling. It's hard to walk away knowing you played everything correct, with nothing but "well I played well"..it's an acquired taste.

You are probably playing too tight and not stealing enough blinds. You will get sucked out on at least once in just about every tournament. The trick is to have enough chips at the time that you can bounce back. To do that, you have to build your stack. That's why the great players will gamble early to either get a big stack or bust out early, rather than be blinded off to the point that you have almost no chance.
