Aikido?

Anyone here praticing (sp?) Aikido... Im new to martial arts and im looking to give it a shot soon with my girlfriend... any comments about this martial art?

It isn't a practical martial art. Take Jiu Jitsu.

aikido involves a lot of intricacy and precision, hard to come by in a street fight. That said, there are some excellent principles involved, and it's a great art wherein men and women can train side by side.

Aikido is a waste of time. It's impractical and on top of it it's hard to perform well. Don't get me wrong, there are a few dudes out there that can get down doing Aikido and are legit, but they are too few and far in between.

Aikido is great to know if you already have a black belt in something else like Karate, Kung Fu, or Tae Kwon Do. My tae kwon do classes had hapkido (Korean aikido) as a component of the curriculum. It was fun.

My sister does Aikido, has been for about 4 years. No previous m.a. expierence. She loves it. Don't much about it, but I hear there is a lot of throwing, a lot. The dojo she's at is a really close group. She has a tight group of friends there and she's there about 3-5 nights a week.
