Oh man, I'm so sad that AJ didn't actually kill himself. He is literally the worst.

Ok. I'm done.   It was good. None of the "surprises" were really surprising. The directing was average to poor. The writing was average at best, but generally below average. The acting was supe

Well maybe they decided that making 500 million off a movie might be good enough of a reason to keep the outcome up in the air. could be.
Chase said a long time ago he's always known how the show was going to end. Tony never saw it coming. I think it's brilliant.

i'm pretty sure a human skull is hard enough to wedge and stop an suv if it were moving 1/2 inch per second on almost level ground : )
And I care because...?

Definitely, they left it to us bc there aren't any endings that they could come up with that wouldn't upset us, no matter what. Anything they did with any closure would piss us off, so doing this is the best choice. I liked it, it didn't leave me disappointed bc I kind of feel like even though the show is over, the family is just continuing to live like always."Don't stop believing" was a great choice, it fit the mood they were trying to set for the end. And Phil's death=the nuts, they knew it had to be absolutely awesome bc anything simple would just not satisfy us in the final episode.

in the first episode from this season (i think?) when tony and bobby are fishing in the boat they talk about getting shot in the head, and how you don't hear anything and everything goes blank. probably some long-range foreshadowing there.

good ending, if I didn't get to see tony shot in the head then, IMO, me he's still alive. i <3 the Soprano family, best Mafiosos ever.

Kind of anti-climatic ending to an awesome show. I guess we will never know but I tend to think he died because there was no music just black even when the credits rolled. That last scene in that diner was brilliant with all the **** going on in the place and the constant cutting to meadow parking building up to...nothing. I think Chase stayed true to his art and didnt go for a everyone lives happilly ever after ending or a violent bloody final scene. I know alot of people are gonna hate it but how can they argue with the man who made this wonderful show.

Anyone that thinks Tony ultimately gets killed in the diner completely missed the point of that scene.I thought it was a brilliant ending. Great song, unreal tension built from what should otherwise be just a typical scene in any diner in the world, a final episode that tied almost all loose ends...loved it.

I gotta disagree. The first time through, I was undecided, but I just watched the west coast feed, and I'm leaning toward Tony being shot. The message I got: If you live the lifestyle, you end up dead or in jail. Tony was lucky, his last moments were in a fun family setting, on good terms with the people close to him. And it furthers the theme of Tony's family bearing the burden of his lifestyle, while he treats life like a game.Multiple shots of that nervous dude at the counter, glancing over at Tony. The convo someone brought up earlier between T and Baccala in the boat about getting shot in the head. I think 85% of the time, Tony is dead.

this thought came to me when I was trying to go to sleep last night. the more I think about it, the more I think tony was shot. this show is known for some really long range foreshadowing, even over the seasons, so it isn't that far off. and what jeff up there said makes me think that if chase "always knew how he wanted the show to end," then that most certainly means tony dying. doubt he meant that he always wanted the show to end with the family eating a meal in a diner. oh well, either way, its crazy stuff. still, hope there's a movie somehow. after all, I gotta have something to look forward to. oh yeah, rescue me. shit yeah.

god damn it, after five minutes of thinking, reading an article on it, and speedz post in the sick thread, I'm starting to think that he doesn't die at all, but it really just was a display of his normal life, and that all the suspense that was building up with all the cutting to the different people was just showing how his life is, and how it would always be like that. now I think there's a good possibility he didn't die. still, I bet there's gonna be a movie. the only road block I see is Gandolfini who seems like he's tired of the whole thing. but seriously, I don't think any of them could turn down the kind of money that thing would make. almost easily record breaking.I gotta stop watching fucking tv.

at least I know I wasnt the only person who thought their DVR messed up. I am still trying to figure out the whole meadow trying to park her car thing? kinda lost me there. Also tony was so onto everyone who was walking in the diner that I just cant see how he wouldnt see the guy coming out of the bathroom. I think it all comes down to them still just being a regular family doing a regular night out for dinner.

my 2 cents..Pauly did in fact betray Tony. He was in cahoots with Butch and the other guys over at NY and the plan was to wipe out both Phil and Tony and assume control of both NY and NJ for themselves. The last thing he said to Tony, in front of Satriales, was the same thing Brutus said to Ceasar before he betrayed him. Anyone else catch that? As for Meadow not being able to parallel park, I think it symbolized her "almost getting away" from the life (law school etc) but in reality she was doomed from the beginning. You can not change what you are born into. Chase wanted us to want her to somehow miss whatever horrible thing was about to happen in the diner, and naturally we were all rooting for her because she is the only purity in the Soprano family. Anyone notice how Tony ate his onion ring? Instead of biting into it he placed it on his tongue as if it were the Eucharist, symbolizing him taking his last rights. The guy at the bar was a hitman, and yes he was going into the bathroom to get the murder weapon, most likely a pistol, and yes the screen cutting to black represented the "lights out" effect of being capped in the head and not even seeing it coming. Also Chase threw in a little hint of irony. Anyone remember what Tony's favorite movie scene was? Yup, from the Godfather. ...Michael Corleone grabbing the pistol out of the bathroom and assisinating that guy in the restaurant. They've alluded to that a few times throughout the series. A couple other moments of symbolism...Pauly sitting out in front of Satriales all alone sunning himself represented him being the last man standing in NJ from the original crew. Everyone else is dead, and Tony is soon to be. What a great shot of him from the other side of the street sitting all alone where they all used to sit. The cat was Christopher reincarnated. The fact that Agent Harris was preoccupied with possible terrorist activity and gave Tony the cold shoulder only sheds light on how insignificant Tony's world really is in comparison to the real important issues. Did you notice how he reacted when his colleague came in and told him Phil Leotardo had been whacked? He said "woohoo we're gonna win this thing!" Organized crime had become merely a game to him that was an escape from his real work in the anti-terror unit. GOOOOO JERSEY!!!! It really put things in perspective for me. Overall I thought the ending was brilliant. And Chase paid homage to the true Sopranos fan, fully knowing that it would fly right over the heads of most viewers. It took balls, and I wouldnt have expected anything less of him.For what its worth...

Astute Observations, I commend you on your effort of thought. Although, The last thing Brutus said to Caesar was "Great Caesar,-- "The Last thing Caesar says to Brutus is "Et tu, Brute? Then fall, Caesar."I'll have to view it again on HBO on demand today, but I think that is a hard connection to make.

I don't think Tony is dead...If you ever watch any of the behind the scenes stuff with Chase he talks about how important music is to the series. Rewatch the final scene and listen to the music carefully and when it cuts out.Tony has won his was with Phil, but there is so much of his history that can come to haunt him he always has to watch over his shoulder to see who is coming for him. Thats what the final scene was about, being on top of the world and in danger of losing it all at the same time. Whats funny is as bad as most people think that ending was, it's brilliant for the way it was left open to encourage all the discussion that is going on over it today.
