irishguy 14
This may be a long boring read for some but there is a point to it. Flame if you must. My wife left me about a year ago and at about the same time I was going through some trouble at work. I was a general manager at a local restaurant and was making just over thirty grand a year, I had also owned and operated a small trading company for the past few years(not a lot of money but a ton of potential). I was stressed and needed a change. Poker had been a regular part of my life since I was young and would sit up playing stud with my Dad and his friends regularly of Friday nights. After the boom I began to organize a weekly staff game at work and began to pocket another couple hundred dollars a week pretty consistently. Well with the stress of a failed marriagre and a horrible work situation I decided to leave my job and try to grind it out full time. I bought my soon to be ex out of her share in my house and figured between my trading earnings and severance pay I could get by on very little as I've always been very good at stretching a dollar. My goal was to average $75-$100 US dollars five days a week as I built a bankroll. It would eventually turn into more. In late August my plan went into effect, I began playing regularly on a lesser known site. I was playing mirco no limit and $10 sint n go's. I went on a huge swing the first three weeks or so and was able to more thenn pay my bills as I awaited my severance package. Well the severance pakage never came but instead turned into a legal battle between me and my former employer which is still on going. At about this time my trading tooking a big downswing as just like poker even if done well variance is still a factor. Going through October and November I was still able to pay my bills with my poker earnings but was getting frustrated as it was impossible to build a bankroll while I constantly had to pull money just to live off of. But I was having the time of my life, working my own schedule while doing something I love. At about this time my younger brother moved in with me, partly because he needed a place to stay and partly because I was missing the daily human interaction. I charged him a little rent but certainly not a lot. Through December and up to now I switched sites as I had been a victim of blatant collusion and nothing had been done to rectify it. The collusion didn't cost me much but morally I felt wronged and left for greener pastures. I began playing regularly at stars, again sticking mostly to sit n go's $20 and up. After a little while I started grinding the cash tables and doing alright. I also began to play some MTT's as I'd seen moderate success with these at my last site. My problem continued to be that I just couldn't build a roll while taking money out weekly to survive so I seriously started to think about going back to work even just part time, in order to increase my roll and get my play to the next level but, as I said going to get a job was not a must but just a thought. It is frustrating not being able to progress to where you need to be especially for someone like me who is a complete work-aholic. I've spent countless hours playing and studying the game, I left a job where I was working seventy to a hundred hours a week and found myself doing the same with my new career(which nobody who doesn't play ever believes). The big difference was though that with poker it didn't always feel like work. Over the past few months I've been teaching my brother how to play. He has a computer in his room and I run all my stuff of my laptop. It is the same IP address but completely different accounts. We have never had a problem with this. At the old site we actually conacted live support to see if we could play at $10 sit n g together. They agreed even though they really shouldn't have. There was no cheating going on at all as I was tucked away in the basement far away from him and was actually just looking to take more money from him and put his poker ego in place. We've both been running accounts on stars for the last few months but never once sat at a table or entered the same tournament as we play at completely different levels. I played a few smaller MTT's and sats yesterday and then retired to the basement for in time to catch 24. At this time my brother (whom I be from now on refering to as numbnuts) starts playing some micro on stars-like one and two cent micro. He comes down during a commercial and tells me how he downloaded this software that plays for you. I log on and see that as he's standing in front of my he's on screen playing hands. I tell him that this is cheating and he is going to get us in shit. Later on he play a $2 multi with this software and ends up lacing deep in the money for a whopping $8. Well I woke up this morning and have found that I am banned from pretty much every poker site and my money has been confiscated all so numbnuts could make a whopping $8. But it looks like I'vwe got my answer on whether or not to go get a job. Sorry if this was a long and boring read but I am super pissed and needed to vent and I hope this heeds as a warning to anyone out there who might have a numbnuts of there own.Matt

Scanner313 0
Find a local card room and play live a couple of days a week. I've been doing this part time and it's been giving me a nice little profit. Not enough to live on, as I only play maybe 1 or 2 nights a week, but if I did it every night I'm sure I could make between $500 and a grand a week. I'd love to do it full time, but I just can't take the risk as I have 2 kids to support.

I have a cable modem for me and a dsl modem for my girlfriend and it only costs an extra $25 per month. You have to protect yourself especially now with the crackdown on cheating. ajs510 122
Keeping your entire portfolio in a single investment, such as an SEC regulated stock, bond, annuity, IRA or even a passbook bank account, isn't a good idea. Keeping your entire bankroll/means of earning a living on an unregulated internet poker site that has the demonstrated ability and willingness to confiscate said funds with or without warning or just cause is about the stupidest thing I can think of. NH sir. Thank you for your constructive input. I trade primarily commodities and tend to stick to 30yr bonds at the moment. Now with commodity trading proper money management dictates that I only have twenty percent of my total account value in action at any given time. Now the remainder of my money is still in my trading account and I don't worry about it being confiscated. Should I? I see your point but as I stated I didn't have a huge sum of money online as I was reguarly withdrawing it. As far as it being dumb having this as my sole means of income, it wasn't but most people only have one income source. You could get fired from your job today sometimes sh-t happens! I agree it maybe wasn't the smartest thing to be doing but even playing .25/.50 and .50/1 I was clearing roughly $100 US a day five days a week which was an almost even substitute for my salary at my previous job. UPDATE: I am one lucky sonofabitch! I got an email stating that my account wasn't frozen but there was a connectivity problem for most poker sites to some areas in canada today. There's no need to use PStars as a holding area for your bankroll, especially with the anti-cheating crackdown currently going on.
shinychicken 0
FYPIts me getting around the system, but protecting myself. My girlfriend and I live together and she plays too. We never play on the same site at the same time and I am not risking losing any of my money like other people out there. If I lose it gambling, fine, but not by having my account closed. stealfromblind 0
your saying that poker stars is monitoring these $2 mtt's for people cheating?hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....haif i had to guess this is what happened. whoever wrote the "bot" program wrote a backend to it that would email all of your password information to his address and then dumped all the money. it is pretty easy to forge emails, it would take me about 2 minutes to send you an email from bigpimpdaddy@fbi.gov, so all the guy had to do was send you and email forged from pstars that said they banned your account for using a bot. its actually not a bad idea. i need to write a bot.you got pwned.
