Sos...chicago Area Fcp'ers

Recommended Posts

Due to the unfortunate death of my girl's Father, I find myself on my way to Chicago tomorrow morning. This will be an extended stay in the month/ month and a half range as we wrap up the usual issues.I have never been to Chicago before so I am clueless as to what poker action is around. I will be staying in Franklin Park ( where ever that is ).Any help to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Sadly, the only action you can get is in the armpit of the universe, Hammond/Gary IN, which is a 45-ish minute drive from where you'll be. HoosierAlum plays a lot at Resorts I think, and he seems to like it. I haven't been there, but I've been to Trump and it is awful. The games were juicy, but the atmosphere is disgusting. The chips are so dirty that they stick together. I would much, much, much rather play online.

the right direction would be to forget poker for a month and a half. be there for your girl. who the hell cares about poker.
true there are more things important in life. But I do understand that everyone needs a break from all of that type of stuff.

Trumps bought new chips, and are apparently going to continue doing that. Chips wernt gross about a week and a half ago. Still a cheesy atmosphere but at least a bottle of becks was only $2. Can't beat that.

Yes they did.... and Resorts has a better atmosphere... a few less peices of garbage sitting next to you.Higher limits = Less trash. :club:

I think I'm heading to the Resorts tonight. I've been getting it handed to me online lately, and I feel like I'm a much better live player, so I'm headed that way after work. We do have a little FCP Chicago Mixed Game (in theory anyway) - we've only played once, but I'm looking to make it a weekly game. We play at my apartment on Tuesday nights and the mix looks like this.NLHEPL OmahaFixed Limit Omaha 8Fixed Limit 2-7 TDFixed Limit StudWe play the NL and PL games w/ .25/.50 blinds, and the fixed limit games are played as $1/$2 limits. It was fun the one time we did it, and I'm really looking to make it a weekly affair.By the way, condolances...Ben

You could drive an hour north (all on the interstate) and go to Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee. It's pretty big, and they have a decent poker room. www.paysbig.com is their website.
Potowatomi is OK, but it's definitely more than an hour's drive. Resorts and Trump are both bigger, and Resorts is much nicer than Poto...

I'm not sure what limits you play, so I can't give great advice. If you play 10/20 and up, you basically are forced to go to Resorts. They usually have 2 games of 10/20 and 1 game of 20/40 going. Both are good games. Trump and Resorts have NL games with horrendous blind structures. You might as well play blackjack if you are going to play these games because of the rediculous blind structure/pay charge. I much prefer playing online to these dumps, but sometimes its nice to get off the computer. I assume you won't be able to play online so I would recommend Resorts. Its a bit nicer than Trump and spreads higher games. If you want a partner to donk with you send me a PM and I will play a session.

Hoosier, I shoulda PMed you yesterday - I hit up the Resorts 5/10 game last night and it was horrendous. The guy to my left was awsomely bad. I saw him write a personal check to another player so he could buy back into the game. He was just giving money away... At a 10-person table there was only 1 or 2 other competent players. the other 7 or 8 guys had no clue. I love live poker....

The guy actually took a personal check from someone he didn't know at a casino? Sounds like he's the donk.

It may have been from a friend, I don't know. the other dude was at another table. The donkey did say he loaned a guy he didn't know a hundred bucks last week and was surprised he'd never seen him again.
