I heard that dells PC's are pretty known for crashing alot etc, is this true with there laptops? Also it needs to have a screen resolution of atleast 1600x1200 and enough Ram to be able to run 4 tables and pokertracker smoothly.Any ideas? Thanks

I have a Dell laptop, and I love it. The thing is friggin bullettproof. Most people who know something about computers don't dislike Dell because they 'crash' a lot, but rather because Dell pre-loads a bunch of Dell help software on the computer and it can be difficult to determine which programs are necessary and which can be safely removed. It's not hard if you aren't super lazy. More of a nuisance than anything. But their performance is solid.

I had a dell laptop that was a trooper for almost 4 years before it crapped out. My advice to anyone who buys a dell laptop is to completley reformat it and reinstall just windows and drivers directly from the hardware manufacturers as soon as you open the box. You will see - i kid you not - at least a 25% increase in performance. My IBM thinkpad T43 that I have for work is much lighter and sleeker than my dell ever was for pretty similar performance.

Beat me to this advice. I did this, and the thing has been running like a total champ for 10 months. It seemed like I was having to reformat my old Compaq every 3 months. Only two problems I have had with my dell:1) My DVD burner conked out after 3 months. Wouldn't read ANY CD's.2) Power cord died. Both problems, while annoying (the power especially) were fixed with a ten minute online conversation, after which I was overnighted the new parts. For the power cord, I had the conversation with Dell at 4:45, and the DHL guy was at my door at ten the next morning.

Check out www.slickdeals.net I have seen and got some real good deals from there. There was a nice Dell lappy for 461 just a couple days ago. You might have to check that site several times a day for a week or so but they come along prtty often. GLOnce you go to the site click on "forums" then on "hot deals".

Not to hijack, but Im in the market for a "poker only" computer. I know absolutely nothing about computers, so what would be my best bet? What brand is best? Notebook or desktop? I plan on traveling quite a bit this next year, so maybe a notebook would be best. I also plan on buying 2 new monitors so multi-tabling wouldn't be a problem. Any help is much appreciated.

the dell xps m170 is the sickest gaming laptop ever made. if u are seriously looking for a high quality gaming laptop, this is what u are looking forhttp://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/seg...s=19&l=en&s=dhs
For a true gaming laptop, yes - just for poker - way too much money.I love Dell laptops and just bought a new one myself. They are MUCH improved if you format and re-install only what is necessary - as said before.Check out the following for great Dell coupon codes:slickdeals .netdeals2buy . comgotapex . comI just bought this one - 17" widescreen and 1920X1200 resolution almost fully loaded for about $1200 with a deal from one of the sites above.http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/top...en&s=dhs&~ck=mn4 tabling was one of the reasons, but I will use this for much more than poker - more of a desktop replacement. If you don't 4 table and only wish to play poker you can get a great deal on a Inspiron 6000, 710m, 600m for less than a grand. :icon_suit_spade:
