dkelloway 0
Is McEvoy's and Cloutier's book Championship NL and PL Hold'Em worth buying? thanks
cubbybri 0
The book is good. It gives you a good look at how the more conservative players play certain hands and certain situations. Nice for the beginner but I think if you were going to buy a tournament book, you should go fo Harrington on Hold' Em. Gives you a clearer view of how tournament play changes and develops as tables and stcks sizes change. Also gives you a nice idea of where your chip stack stands in comparison to the average and the blinds/antes which I feel is the most important factors in tourney play. Harrington's book delves so much deeper.IMHO, all the "texas road stories" really detract from TJ's book.

greatwhite 0
It's decent, but if you are looking for better tournament books read Harrington on Hold'em I & II, Phil Gordan's Little Green Book, and Tournament Poker for Advanced Players. I have yet to read Kill Phill, but with all these good reports on it I will be reading it soon.

cubbybri 0
I forgot about the stories. Love hearing Cloutier's story telling. Nice to hear the old school days of poker. If you enjoy that sort of thing, the book jumps in value.Kinda reminds me of Grandpa telling war stories when I was a kid. They seem so grandious and awe inspiring compared to poker today. kcb 0
The description on Amazon said that this book delved into cash game play, too. Is this true?
Jam-Fly 8
I read the reviews on Amazon and they sounded pretty bad, so i decided to get a loan of it before buying it. I find it very annoying, never really like TJ but this book, he just says, this is stupid dont be a retard and do that, never ever ever do that, altho once in this game in dallas i did it, but back in dallas we used to start tournaments with 11 players per table rather than 10, and lemme tell you this, a hand at an 11 handed must be better than one at a 6handed table, and as Stuey Ungar said, you just gotta have...........etc.Hopefully itll get better as ive only read a bit but it is kind of irritating, i do enjoy stories, but if he could be a bit clearer it wud be good. And i dont agree with some of his ideas, not me as such, but some theories in other books (Hellmuths and Harringtons namely) are completely opposite, not a slight difference, completely different.Hopefully itll get beter
Turbo Dog 1
I think the stories are one of the best parts. I like stuff like that.If you like that stuff, you should check out these Cowboy Wolford stories from the Cardplayer archives. I just read them for the first time the other day, and found them entertaining.http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_magazine/w...oy'_Wolford
