xtxoxpxd 0
i can't believe he said he's never met anyone who's gotten it before... You are in a room with three light switches. Waaay down the hall is a light bulb that one of these switches controls. You can't see the other room or the light from the other room from the room you are in.All three light switches are off and the light bulb is also off. Now, you can fiddle with the light switches any way you want. Then, you can go into the room down the hall where the light bulb is and come back to the original room where the switches are. There is one specific way you'll know for certain which switch controls that light bulb. This isn't a trick question at all, but you might have to think outside the box to get the right answer. I've never met anybody yet who got it.assume switches labeled 1, 2, and 3. turn switch 1 on for an extended period of time. turn switch 1 off. turn switch 2 on. go downstairs. if the bulb is off and hot, it is switch 1. if it is on, it is switch 2. if it is off and cold, it is switch 3. Guest
I posted the light bulb riddle about 6 months ago in off topic.
ShakeZuma 585
I didn't see anywhere in there limiting how many times you could go down the hall or that the switches had to be off.I figured just do trial and error. Though I knew that wasn't the real answer, it would be the simplest solution given what is asked. but yeah, the heat one is the dizzle
thrillsoft 0
I got it in about 3 minutes (not 10 seconds). I didn't think it was that hard. Just had to "think outside the box".
godoffrisbee 0
ok, but how about this? go to the light bulb and unscrew it. then go to all the switches and turn them all on. screw the light bulb back in. systematically turn the light switches off one at a time until you get the one where the light stays on and voila! ShakeZuma 585
I have one main quetion with this riddle...are you only allowed to go down to the room with the lightbulb once? and if so, only after you fiddled with the switches? ie sequence being: fiddle with switches, go to room, decide which switch... is this right? delphi12 0
I cant believe how badly DN botched telling the riddle. He doesnt say there are 3 light bulbs anywhere, just 3 light switches - thus either people already knew the answer or it was looked up on the net - personally, this one was given to me when I was in high school, so I remembered the answer. Then he never says you can only go in the room ONCE. *sigh*. Daniel, please try and recite your riddles properly!

Hobbes 1
Much better riddle with those other stipulations. Here's a similar (and easier) one that a company I know uses in job interviews. You have two chickens and one fox with you. All of you need to cross the river in a row boat to get to the other side. You can only take one animal with you at a time across the river. If you are not with the animals, the fox will eat the chickens. How do you get all three across the river without the fox eating any chickens?

Supertequila 0
well i posted this in my own topic until i realised there was one topic here already. Here is another riddle that u guys can try to solve:there are 4 hats, two red and two black.3 guys stand in a line and can not turn around. The guys know there is 2 black and two red hats in a bag. They close their eyes and u put one hat on each hat and the forth remains in the bag unseen. Now guy nr 1 doesnt see the other ones. Guy nr 2 sees nr 1 and guy nr 3 sees nr 1 and 2. They are not allowed to look at their own hats. The guys are instructed to say out loud and clear, without lying, the colour of the hat that they are wearing themselves, if they can manage to figure it out.One of the guys can always figure out what colour his hat is. Who and how?
Hobbes 1
I got it, it's guy number 2. Highlight for answerIf guy number 3 sees that 1 and 2 have the same color hat, guy 3 will know his hat is the opposite. Guy 2 will then know his hat is different from guy 3's hat. If guy 3 doesn't say anything, guy 2 will know that guys 1 and 2 have different color hats and therefore guy 3 can't know what his is and guy 2 can just say the opposite of whatever color guy 1 has, which he can see. xtxoxpxd 0
^ yeah, it really helps in these kind of riddles to have poker intutition. the whole "what is he thinking and what is he thinking im thinking" sort of thing.
lordofelt 0
I'm also a fan of these riddles. I'm studying for my LSAT right now and there's a whole section of "Games" that is logic puzzles just like this during the test. I like it cause it makes me feel like I'm studying when I'm really just wasting time on FCP. And here's another one for all you riddle lovers:You're lost in the middle of the woods in winter. You stumble upon an empty cabin and take refuge inside. When you enter you see: a candle, an oil lamp and a gas stove. You look into your pocket and find only 1 match. You know that if you don't get heat into the cabin you won't survive. What do you light first?
davezz5 0
I have correct anwswer too light bulb riddle assuming 3 bulbs, 3 switches, 1 visit.. turn on switch "A" for 30 seconds, turn off. Then turn on switch "B" and leave on.Go to the room and check the bulbs. The switch that is currently on will be aluminating light. Feel the other two bulbs, the bulb you turned on/off will still be warm identifying that switch, the cold bulb will be the switch that was not turned on originally
