This Language Filter Is Stupid And Insulting..

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I never meant to come off as if I am talking down to anyone. I guess it is that I just don't get what the big deal is about cursing anyways.I use to work for small companies and my coworkers and I cursed all of the time. As I worked for bigger organizations and moved up the ladder, I realized that it just wasn't appropriate. In the corporate world, it does not make you look smart to curse. There are lots of people who also access this site when they are at work or when they are at home with their kids. I mean, our largest thread was started by people who were posting from work. So I tend to think that we wouldn't want lots of cursing on here since people are accessing the forum in some not so private places. Some of the most wittiest comics don't curse or do so in small amounts. They are bright and creative and have a great command of the English language. My personal oppinion is that many poker players are bright and intelligent and have lots of creativity. I guess that is why I don't get the up roar. I respect so many posters on here and what they have to say that I don't know why there is so much passion to curse or to bypass filters. So sorry if I offended anyone, because I did not mean to do so. I guess I am just perplexed. And Nikki... you are a sweetheart. Of course I love you babe. :club:
Where's that emoticon for bouncing your head off a brick wall? You and I have always gotten along real well, but this is really just starting to feel like a canker sore.Seriously--It's NOT ABOUT THE SWEARING.Is that good enough? It's about being mocked and treated like a child. Personally, I find it profoundly stupid that swearing is handled with a ten foot pole on this forum, but, whatever. To have the filter throw in these 9 word sentences in ridiculous, "I took my dog, she's a when it rains it pours, just like on the Morton's salt can, to the vet." Or, man, "My girlfriend is really being a the leaves turn brown in autumn." Not only does it make the sentence largely unreadable, but it's a kick in the teeth to those of us who have ACTUALLY contributed something to this site. Not the people who have posted pictures in every other thread to bump their post count, but those of us who have contributed to strat, poker discussion and good OT threads. So forgive me if I feel like my intelligence and maturity was insulted by this piece of "it was the foliage that had gotten to the young lad" language filter. But I'm not a child and I won't be treated like one. And if this forum is really just some off shoot of the Poker Room, then I won't be a part of it. And don't give me that "it was the foliage that had gotten to the young lad" about people reading at work. How many workplaces would they be able to peruse this site--and have that be okay--but it's not okay if the word "it was the foliage that had gotten to the young lad" is involved. So, whatever. Take that for what it's worth. I'm starting to feel like there's better alternatives, and you're reinforcing that.

Theresa, you missed the point. The point wasn't the filter. It's how the words are changed.
Actually.... Oh nevermind. I thought the filter was funny and brilliant but maybe I am the one with the twisted sense of humor. Could it be a joke within a joke? Umm...

Can we please keep in mind that the cursing we are talking about is not spoken aloud but rather only appears on screen. Your argument that people access this site from work or at home with their kids is ridiculous. You are correct that some of the wittiest comics do not curse. But some of the wittiest ones do curse. Some great works of literature (no not Penthouse Forum Beans) include cursing, some don't.

The point is is that this is a business site and we want a professional image. Cursing is frowned at the Fortune 50 company that I work at. Most respectable businesses are not keen on cursing.Let's class up poker and learn to be a bit more intelligent with our conversations. There is a good article in either this months Bluff or All In that addresses this subject.
Hahaha. Go to the trading floor of any one of the top investment banks, and tell me that they're not keen on cursing.

No, I found it funny too.

Seriously, nothing she said made any sense to me. There is plenty of swearing at big companies.

I understand what you're saying, and this isn't directed at you, but this is bullscheisse. They're words, they're inert, they cannot hurt you. I can offend someone far more without cursing than I will by calling them a fscktard. Nobody is so sheltered that merely seeing the f-word is going to alter their lives in any meaningful manner. It's all just stupid semantics. Which word is more offensive? Sh!t, or murder? Again, not directed at you Theresa, more of a vent than anything.
I was asked to leave the Mirage a few days ago for dropping the F-bomb at the Blackjack table. The floorman is a friend of mine, but a "high-roller" was at the table with me that complained numerous times about it. Bob waited until I went to the bathroom and asked me if I would be offended if he asked me to leave when I returned to the table. It was a "show" for the idiot that griped, and as you guys know, I LOVE a good show. When I returned, Bob waited a few minutes and walked over to the table. He told me that my behavior was not needed there, and pushed my bet back. I got up and left, calling Bob a jerk and shooting the griper a nasty look. The next morning, when I went to the cage to get some cash from my box, I was greeted with a RFB pass that lasts until March 25th and free exotic car rental from the lot down the street. Bob later reported the "griper" was down over $25K while I was there, and dumped over $20K more after I left.FCP has the no cussing rule... I dont fault the mods or admin for this. They are just "policing" the forums, upholding the "law"...The "law" was written by FCP... laws can be changed by votes...The best way to "vote" is to not play at their site...just my drunken opinion guys... carry on

I dont like the filter either......not too many people who will like it. Also, I'm not a fan of the background. When I'm reading something for a long time on my computer, it's much nicer when it's a darker color, such as the older forum.

If you think this is the silliest thread you've ever seen you need to venture outside of Suggestions and Updates.Glad to see you haven't completely lost touch with those of us who actually use this site on a day to day basis. Thanks though, you're the best. Always respond to any questions, problems or complaints in a timely manner. That's why we love ya.

ok, people, if we're not going to have a language filter, can we at least keep the swearing tasteful so we don't get a filter imposed? i'm sure if it's permanently off, swearing will be allowed in some sort of moderation, but there's no need to start posting posts of nothing but swears just to swear.let's not be douchebags and kill a privilege we have. thanks.

Actually the best way to vote is to put up a poll and vote in it.

Scratch that, guys, the resident Play Money Sit'N'Go Specialist liked the filter.Forget all that I've said.I'm out for the night, I can't take unbridled stupidity in such large doses.
I actually OD'd on unbridled stupidity once....woke up the next morning with an "I LUV ANNIE DUKE" tattoo on my arm...I later cut my arm off at the elbow with a rusty pocket knife

I actually am dismayed by the fact that the filter was removed. I was having fun watching DM implode over something so stupid. The lines were funny. How DM was threatening to leave a message board over the fact he use better descriptive adjectives is even funnier though. They should change the filter to "Don't leave DM"
