something i learned about aces

Recommended Posts

Here is why you are getting flamed. in Brunsons supers system, he says (it is Super System, not Supers System)roughly "you will eitehr (either) lose a big pot or won (win) a small one"although i (I) learned a lot about poker ove rthe(over the) last few years i (I) never really understood this.and because doyle is a genius, i (I) feel he didnt (didn't) have too much difficulty learning this... and therefore has trouble explaining the concept to lesser mortals, because it seems as natural as eating cake to him. (yeah, you're right. Doyle didn't have to work at poker to learn such concepts. Jesus just gave him the knowledge. )anyway, i finally realised (realized) that he means, if you get to see a flop in holdem, and your (you're) holding aces... you must then actively TRY AND KEEP THE POT SMALL. (insanely incorrect. Just retarded) if this means check calling (NO!) then so be it. DONT (don't) get yourself commited and down carry on with the hand like you got the KATS PYJAMAS... (What the f*ck does this last statment mean)any flop is bad for aces. (NO!) because your opponenet can have a set from any pair. (quit being a p*ssy)this applies mainly to caysh (cash) ... which is what hes on about..(what????)in tournements never fold them. (NEVER fold aces in a tournament??? Wow. Retarded.)take them home and censored them at the end of the event.so unless you can great action preflop, against a good player that wont overplay top pair.. put the F%£kin breaks on.peace.
You are dumb.

correcting spelling and grammar is for queers. there are other ways to flame a 'tard without looking like a 'tard yourself.
When you make that many mistakes while trying to make some sort of intelligent point, it's gonna be noticed. Also, if by "queer" you mean a guy that bangs lots of hot chicks on a regular basis, then yeah, I'm "queer."

TheWatchMan,pardon my ignorance because I do not play NL much, nor have I read SS.But let me take a stab at what Doyle meant. You should play AA aggressively and often your opponents will fold, leaving you with a small pot. When you bet AA hard on the flop (and hopefully preflop) you may get action from a flopped set or huge draw and end up losing a big pot.I seriosuly doubt he suggests playing small ball poker with AA.and it was quite hilarious that you dbl posted the post slamming aonther poster chorrizo for doing the same.

Yes, this is exactly what he meant. People often lose big pots because they find it difficult to get away from aces postflop. Unless you flop a set (or a flush or whatever) aces are only a pair and most good players will fold to a lot of aggression if they can't beat one pair, thus leaving you with a small pot. This is a very general rule, though, and has many exceptions, obviously.

This is a flawed post. You do realize that your chance of flopping a set of Aces is the same as him flopping a set of eights right? There is a time and place to lay down Aces and you won't encounter them very often - especially in a cash game where you can reload.

This has to rank up there with some of the dumbest posts of all time For these reasons.1. Doyle didn't explain this concept more because it is so simple to understand he didn't think it was necessary. Ie. People overplay aces so your either going to win a small pot when people don't make anything decent or lose a big one when people making two pair or trips because you can't get away from them.2. The underlying theme that Doyle emloys throught the entire book is aggression. Yet you interprept that as check call all the way down on any kind of flop. I really think you need to take up a new game cause you clearly have no idea how to play poker and quite honestly i don't think you brain has the capacity to learn it if it took you years to come up with these thoughts which are clearly so flawed. And im not even flaming here this is my pure and honest opinion.

I still don't think that you understand the concept. Brunson said to play the aces fast in most situations pre flop and on the flop. this was so that you don't let players make a cheap two pair or something along those lines, you want to slim the field as much as possible and then try to take the pot down early b/c for one reason you will find yourself tied to aces (lose a big pot) and because in most cases you have fairly no chance to improve your hand compared to your opponent, who may have lots of cards he can catch. So this does not mean try to keep the pot small (although in certain cases this is correct) but it means to bet strong and not slow play them giving your opponent a chance to catch up. And if you keep reading it also says that heads up if a man flops a set or 2 pair on some obscure board that brunson would just have to go broke and pay the man off(which i don't completely agree with, but this all depends on your image and the info on your opponent) So dont do what you were saying because if you get into that mode of betting small and letting players take cheap shots at you, you are going to find yourself on the wrong end of broke street.

i was just trying to explain what i thoguht brunson meant Kowboy.he obviously meant something when he said it, and he isn't, generally atrociously wrong about anything.when i read the book 2 years ago, i found his thoughts on it slightly confusing so i thought id share my enlightenment.
Not at all suprised that you read something and it confused you. That being said, I am shocked and at the same time slightly impressed that you can read. Welcome to the world of words.

if your so clever bill, the you should no that negative criticism helps noone.i dont express my thoughts on here for idiots like yourself to attack.in calling me beligerent, you were being beligerent yourself.i wasnt starting an argument.these arent my thoughts.. theyre an interpretation of brunsons.AND YOU DIDNT EVEN HAVE THE COJONES TO SAY IT YOURSELF..YOU HAD TO WAIT FOR SOME ELSE AND THEN SAY"YEAH YEAH, HAD TO BE SAID..." SUCK SUCK.theres no cure for fools.
Idiots lol? Just admit that you're wrong. People on here (including me probably) have much larger bankrolls than yourself and they are telling you that you're wrong. Flops good for aces: A K 7A J 6A5 9K 2 4Q24Q53 ect ect ect ect.... I use these examples because these are all flops, when I have had aces, that have won me over $300. I suggest you go to the strategy section and have people smarter than you tell you how to play aces. I've done that. There is no shame in it. I hope my posting doesn't make you blind with rage.

How come no one has mentioned TP/MM?Seriously.OP is clearly a poker genius. Aces never win. You might as well fold them preflop and play strictly suited connectors.- Zach

You stated two very true things. The General Forum is a pit, and There is not such thing as bad press. If you wanted to be treated humanely, the strategy forum may be where you should post. The general is where people hang out to have some fun, often at the expense of "interesting" posts.GL
