don't know what got into me to limp in pre-flop...I hardly ever do this, but a couple of players seemed to be steaming.come on guys and flame me how this was played, but it worked out great as he could not really put me on a hand. ***** Hand History for Game 3562314720 *****$100 NL Texas Hold'em - Wednesday, February 15, 23:46:43 EDT 2006Table Table 69919 (Real Money)Seat 2 is the buttonTotal number of players : 10Seat 1: tossman ( $129.40 )Seat 2: OfCourseJNTI ( $94.50 )Seat 3: unknown1969 ( $129.50 )Seat 4: xXJUnitXx ( $110.60 )Seat 5: vizer02 ( $170.95 )Seat 7: mark1808 ( $122.50 )Seat 8: yuten02 ( $221.85 )Seat 10: dhyamada ( $82.41 )Seat 6: JPietz_65 ( $103.55 )Seat 9: ukykeeper200 ( $20 )unknown1969 posts small blind [$0.50].xXJUnitXx posts big blind [$1].** Dealing down cards **Dealt to JPietz_65 [ Qd Qs ]JPietz_65 calls [$1].dhyamada raises [$3].ofCourseJNTI raises [$8].JPietz_65 calls [$7].dhyamada calls [$5].** Dealing Flop ** [ 4s, 2h, Qc ]JPietz_65 checks.dhyamada checks.OfCourseJNTI bets [$15].JPietz_65 calls [$15].dhyamada folds.** Dealing Turn ** [ 8h ]JPietz_65 bets [$20].OfCourseJNTI is all-In.JPietz_65 calls [$51.50].** Dealing River ** [ 8c ]JPietz_65 shows [ Qd, Qs ] a full house, Queens full of eights.OfCourseJNTI doesn't show [ Ac, Qh ] two pairs, queens and eights.JPietz_65 wins $195.50 from the main pot with a full house, Queens full of eights.I probably could have check raised the flop, but with no 1 card flush draw and another person right behing that may call...i just call....turn i decide to give feel bet...making it look like i'm buying and it worked...what do you think everyone...I'm sure if I raise pre-flop, i probably don't get as much out of this hand, especially since there was a third person who contributed $8 pre-flop.

Should of re-raised pre-flop after it was raised in front of you. That way you can sell it as aces. What would of happened if you didn't flop the queen, or an A or K hit the board?
Muck
Which is why I hate calling in this situation with queens.

the only time I've ever limped with big pockets, it was KK, UTG. Flop came K high and I bet out, 1 caller. Turn was a ten, I bet again, got raised and I put the guy all in. He had KT.Skill, baby. Pure skill.

Well, you would have to assume that the re-raiser had AK where in that situation, I'd flat call. It also depends on the game. Is it a really tight game? Or is it a loose, wild game (like one where I play in a game around here in Boston) where people are raising UTG with A2s?
That way you can sell it as aces.
The only problem is, if its a tight game and you do re-raise big preflop, they only hands calling/re-raising you will be aces, kings, or AKs. I remember hearing from Mike Matusow that people too often push QQ too hard preflop, and when an A or K falls, they put themselves into a tough situation when they could possibly be pot committed. TJ Cloutier in one of his books also mentioned that people think or QQ as this Holy Grail type of hand, where it often is the biggest PP that people overplay. Don't get me wrong, QQ is a nice hand to have, but it isn't invincible.Granted, Mike M. might of been referring to tournament play, but I think you could make the argument here for a cash game too. Plus, if you hit trips (as our hero did here) and someone hits an A, you'll stand to make more money because so many players overplay top pair in today's game, as well as the fact another re-raise pre-flop might give away the strength of the hand**although, if it's a loose game, it is correct to re-raise preflop BIG to isolate and protect. Now of course we find out the guy who lost $$$ re-raised with AQo from the cutoff, which I think is an even worse play. Yet again, I hate AQ, so I am a bit biased, but alot of things can beat you here, especially with a raise AND a player who limped into an unraised pot (always a potential red flag) who just calls after. But a very nice hand overall, always helps to play against someone in a NLHE game that overplays their top pair.

Your slow play didnt "work".You just were put in a situation where it was nearly impossible to not win the guy's entire stack.
Yeah...kind of have to agree. Seems like the hand played itself and you just came along for the ride post flop. Future reference, Queens just aren't the hand to slow play preflop. NH, though, seemed like a good pot :-)

I think you're lucky he had the case queen. That's about it.
The hand played itself...you were prolly gonna get his money one way or another. Slow playing didn't help you...it's what he had that mattered.

yeah, probably true. He was steaming and ended up losing about $500 in that session. he was pushing very hard with marginal hands. I just got lucky to take advantage that hand and everything fell into place. Over the last couple days i have had such a bad run (losing AA to AK on river....AA tripped on flop to Q/10 who got runners for str8...etc and no I didn't slow play these hands :club: that when i actually have a good session, i come running to the forum
