going to vegas and need help

Recommended Posts

Well I am going to Vegas and will be staying at the Bellagio and I plan on playing poker there, but I would appreciate any tips on a couple of things i am unsure about. 1. Do I simply sign up on a list in the pokerrom to play, how much time does it take to get a seat on avg (at the low limit tables)?2. Does anyone know the limits available at the Bellagio, for NL Does anyone recommend another casino for low limit NL3. How much and when do I tip the dealer4. Is there a rake and if so how is that taken from the pot?5. If I am done playing do I simply get up or do I have to inform the dealer ahead of time?Well I hope someone can help me out and if you think I should know about anything else when playing in Vegas please let me know. peace

1) yep, sign up with the guys at the desk in the poker room and they'll get you on the list...it depends what time you go, but the wait is never really too long...0-30 min2) 2-5 200min 200max buyin, and i believe 10/20 600min/max. interesting structure that forces you to buyin short, but if you go on a rush you can run that up to quite a bit with the play.most every casino around has 1/2NL...mirage has a great room, caesar's has a great room, and both are easily within walking distance. Luxor down the strip has 1/1/2 $50 buyin NL, but that gets retarded sometimes. most of the 1/2 games are min 100 max 300 or somewhere in that viscinity. I'd suggest the mirage...i love it there, $15 meal comp after like 4 hours of play if you ask the floor guy, and california pizza kitchen is quite tasty.3) tip the dealer whenever the hell you feel like it, but it's only "expected" after you win a pot. if you just raise and steal hte blinds, no tip is necessary...i generally have a 'see the flop, tip a buck' rule, and if i make over 100 in the hand, i tip more...if i doubleup a buyin, i'll tip a redbird ($5)....one thing though...if you're playing in a house with 50 cent pieces or quarters, don't EVER ask a dealer to chop it up for a tip (take 50 cents of a dollar, give yo u50 cents back)...it makes you look like a cheapskate to the dealers, and some even get more annoyed with that kind of tip than with no tip at all.4) rake will vary from room to room...bellagio i believe, for their 2/5NL rakes $1 at $10, $1 at 30, 1 at 50, and 1 at 70, for a $4 max. the higher you play, th eless rake affects you.5) leave whenever you want, no notice necessary.hope this helped :club:

first off have fun on your trip and i hope you win money...good replies by pupsta to each question so the only thing i gotta add is that if you like to play 1-2 NL also try MGM...they got a bar next to the poker room that plays music all night...also the dealers are very nice and deal pretty well. The tables are spaced out so there is a lot of room. Also drunk girls come out of studio 54 all night and walk around that area so thats an added bonus, you know something to look at while your not in a hand. Hope this adds more insight for ya.

yeah, MGM is also a great room, but it's nothing really special...if i'm on that end of the strip and i want to play poker i'll go to MGM, but i'd usually rather go play at caesar's or mirage. the noise level at MGM gets stupid at times...last time we couldn't hear the dealer talking because the loudspeaker calling the names for tables was drowning EVERYTHING else out. players and dealers were complaining about it, and afaik, nothing has been done about it.

Not to mention, when Centrifuge FINALLY stops being loud, the damn Rainforest Cafe starts in with it's crap. Other than that, the action at MGM is great. When it comes to a $1/$2 game, I prefer to go downtown and play at the Nugget ($100 min buy-in,no max)...not to mention, it's a quick hop over to Binion's, or if you're up for EASY one table SnG's, the Plaza runs them whenever they get 10 people. $35 buy-in...$225 for 1st and $75 for 2nd.

They have been trying to get O/8 games started over at Paris with no luck, but for Omaha, your best bet is to head over to the Orleans.

My fav got to be the MGM. Reason why my girl and I went there to play some poker on her birthday. She likes to play 1,2 no limit so we sat there for a few hours. I happen to mention to 1 dealer that it was here birthday from there on all the dealers said happy birthday to her. So after a long game we left and walk around for a bit. Every where we went we had casino employess saying happy birthday to her WOW what a great place. We werent even staying there. 8)

I would stay away from the Bellagio. Unless you want to play short stacked from the beginning, dont go there. Play either at the Mirage, my favorite, or MGM. They both are nice rooms and have a good crew working there. Have a good time and bring back some dough.

If you come play at MGM, make sure you say hello, Names Clay, work Wed-Sun 3-11pm.
Clay, you're on this forum too? (It's Josh from work). Who else is on here? I read this forum everyday. You should put up an avatar.

Great thread and helpful. I'll be playing at Caesers for the first time this weekend...one question along these lines...when you raise in a hand, it has to be at a minimum of twice the big blind, correct? And when its your turn to BB or LB, you just take notice from the button, correct? Thanks for the help in advance

I played at the MGM 1/2 for a week straight last summer. The pokerroom was first class and the games are the softest I've seen in Vegas. Nothing but tourists in every direction. You might have 2-3 solid players at your table but thats about it. I highly recommend it. Also, if you feel like partying your ace off afterwards, go to STUDIO 54 on a TUESDAY night!!! Tuesdays are EDEN night (Extremely Delicious Entertainers Night) and all porn stars and strippers get in for free. It was seriously one of the best nights of my life when we went last year. Enjoy.
