ajs510 122
The Flames trade goaltender Phillipe Sauve and center Steven Reinprecht to the Coyotes for goaltender Brian Boucher and winger Mike Leclerc.Wow, my immediate thought is that the Flames got the worst of that deal...LeClerc is only good for 30 points per season at best (plus he's injury-prone), Reinprecht already has 29 points in 52 games. Sauve is a much better goalie than Boucher, I'm not seeing Calgary's upside in this one...
Meatwad 0
I first thought Leclerc for Reinprecht? But then I remember witnessing Sutter with the Sharks all those years it made sense to me. Leclerc is a grinder that Darryl seems to fall in love with. Not a great skater, checks, good penalty killer. Hence their poor goal differential with one of the worst offenses and best defenses. He did a lot for the Sharks but man he can really stifle the growth of younger players and limits offensive creativity.
Hitman88 0
Sutter had lost confidence in Sauve inthe past few weeks as a backup goalie, hence the arrival of Boucher. So I guess the Coyotes won't be trading CuJo afterall...And good point Meatwad, Leclerc is more of a "Sutter kind of player" than Reinprecht. Flames needs another center now! digitalmonkey 929
Good deal for both teams. Phoenix gets more talent, but Calgary fills a need.
CoolHandLaw 0
I think the trade doesn't mean a whole helluva lot. Boucher for Sauve is an upgrade, though very marginal at best. Reinprecht for Leclerc in my eyes is a downgrade. Leclerc is a grinder which fits the Sutter mold, but how many more grinders do we need? Reinprecht has the speed and the hands, though he didn't really show it here in Calgary.I'm guessing Sutter isn't done trading yet...He's setting up for some bigger trade...I hope
