headaches that kill your poker game at the table

Recommended Posts

Dont' know what it is, but it's only when I'm playin poker that after an hour or so I'll get a huge headache that kinda puts a damper on my poker game. I can't sit back and relax and have a feel for the game and have a good time; I have to devote most of my time playin and trying to get the headache to go away.I was just wondering if anyone else has suffered from this problem, because I really wish to get rid of it so I can play 100%.These are thing things I've tried to stop the headaches

  • drink lots of waterwent and recieved a new subscription for my eye's and glasseseat something before I play

Ahh that's about it.I was just wondering if anyone else has suffered from this problem, because I really wish to get rid of it so I can play 100%.Sometimes I take asprin ahead of time before I play and sometimes it helps, but not all the time. any advice would be greatcorndance8sr.gif

It could be any number of things (and maybe a doctor visit would help pinpoint it...you don't want to mess with chronic headaches), but if it only happens when you play poker, you probably need to look at what you might be doing when you get it. Perhaps there's something you're doing that you're not aware of, such as tightening up your jaw or clenching your teeth.Beyond that, I can't really suggest anything...and note that I'm not a medical professional of any kind. I get stress headaches sometimes when I'm on deadlines, but they rarely get severe and go away if I do some relaxation and/or finish the assignment.Frankly, if it happens frequently, especially if it's at other times than stressful poker games, you should get checked up. It might be a sign of something more serious.Good luck... A E

I used to have this problem in a bad way, but now it doesn't come up too often. It usually didn't happen until after the tournament, but sometimes it would creep in towards the end. I always attributed it to the fact that I focus so hard on every hand that goes on, and I don't really take much time off in between or during hands. Lately it's gone away, I don't really know why, I think it may be because I'm able to focus while being more relaxed at the table. My suggestion is to get some sleep after you finish playing, that's what I usually did after taking a couple of aspirin. At least it means you're thinking!

Any chance it could be eye strain, and you need to see an eye doctor?
actually no, and I thought it was this problem as well. I lost my glasses about 3 years ago when they fell out the window when I was hssick.gif out the window on the freeway. ( I was really sick)So I haven't recieved glasses until this headache problem has been happening whenever I play poker. I went to the doctor and got a new pair of glasses and I can finally see!bigglasses.gifI went to my next game and I still have headaches so I know it's not eye strain, but thanks for the advice.Vensula
B) Painkillers (ussually exedrin)
Yeh I usually use excedrin as well and those seem to work sometimes. I tried the tension headache ones but those didn't help as much. I thought they would be better because I have alot of tension in my neck and shoulders.Has anyone tried those liquid gel caps for headaches?

You should get your prostrate examined….I'd say it's stress etc focus that brings it on… try taking a round off every so often, leave from big blind until it gets back to you, go walk around cool down… cuts into your hourly rate though…

Just wondering what do you think could be wrong with my prostate?I have had 4 kidney stones, 1 every year except this year (I've been drinking nothing but water)Also I should've posted this way earlier, but I have SMA type 2 it's a form of Muscular dystrophy (a motor neuron disease)I asked my doctor if this could be the problem, but he doesn't think so, because I only get headaches when I play poker.I really enjoy playin poker, because it's one of the few things I can actually do ( can't play baseball, basketball, etc ) and I don't want to stop playing because of a stupid headache.thanks for any advice banana.gif

I usually get headaches when I think too hard. Everyone in this form has great advice. For me I just take a few advil or tynenol before i play (lik an hour) and usually that works. Just try to relax like everyone says there is such a thing as thinking too hard. And your right it really can mess up your game

Yeh this has been brought up before to me, someone suggested maybe I concentrate to hard. but I hardly think that is the problem, but I don't know how I would test out that theory.I wonder how I could test that out... maybe go to a table and go DERRR!confusedteef2.gifOh yeh I don't drink any booze at all either, so I know that's not it.Has anyone ever heard of any pros having this problem?

I have not had this problem myself but understand. My buddy was sitting next to me in a Pot Limit game when the cards were "Jumping all over his ass" ; so to speak. AND he was getting action from these two young punks that thought as long as they kept rebuying a nickel at a time to remain the big stack they were winning. Anyway, his head must have been hurting bad because he walked away from it. I say if it were me I would fight through the pain for level of action he was getting. Who knows.

Yeh I would never quit a game (never have yet) unless I had to yack or blood started coming from my ears.I stay until the end, and then go home and laydown and try and recover. The headaches usually always seem to go away after a couple hours of that method (and a little something to munch on)Some people have an edge..... I just have a headachebustedwinkv2.gif
