long tournaments or cash games

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions or how to improve concentration? I am ok for 3 or 4 hours, but after that, my attention wanders and I tend to play worse cards. How can I decrease my wandering mind and increase my bankroll? All flames cheerfully ignored, and all advice cheerfully accepted.

i can't even make it that far. I get into the 3rd hour, and I start looking up online porn b/c i'm so bored. So a quick rub and a tug and i'm back in the game. Also, opening up 1 or 2 cash game tables tends to keep me preoccupied and stops me from playing like an idiot at the tourney.I've also snapped, went to the penny table heads up on pokerstars, sit with 2 $ and pushed every hand for 45 minutes....lost my $2.00 eventually, but i did have it up to $14.00 hahaha! take the agression out where it doesn't matter! pi.ss other people off!good luck..shawn

Getting up and walking around the room once in a while works for me. Also playing multiple tables helps. Or play smaller tournaments. Instead of playing tournaments with over a thousand people, play tourneys with between 100 and 300. Pokerroom.com has lots of tournaments around that size. You might also need to up the stakes you play at to stay interested. Maybe take a week or two off and come back to it. Try not to start those long tournaments unless you really feel like playing for that long. Hope this helps, good luck.

Play live.Online I am only good for 3 hours (if not less) before my mind wanders...Live I can comfortably play for 6 to 8 hours (...and yet, even though I know this, I still put in soume 14+ hour shifts... why???)or...Play in limits well above your bankroll (eg: play 3/6 NLHE when you have less than $1000 online, or enter a $150 tournement when you only have $180 online). This will certainly allow you to focus better... but you will probably go broke.Cheers,Merby

I bought one of those poker padz. Now I shuffle chips while playing online and it really helps me concentrate. Really improved my game. [/img]
Wow... I really think that's a great idea. I'm going to try this.Thanks, pokerplayer101!

Concentrate more towards the end, or the final 1-2 hours, if you play long tournaments. You don't really need to do much at the beginning to improve your status except stay tight and play your cards right. If you're playing cash games, quit whenever you feel disintrested from the game. The most important aspect of poker is self-discipline. Know when it is +EV to play and when it isn't.

I wonder what kind of player I would be if I smoked out before I put in a good session. I should give it a go one of these days. Problem is, I usually play exclusively in B&M so I think it would be too obvious if I excuse myself to the car and come back reeking

I won my first 100 dollar buy in tourney at UB the first time I smoked.

At the beginning of every tournament I'm playing a few rounds of darts. When I hear the sound of cards being passed around I go to my comp click fold and only the top cards I wil play.Playing darts realy helps to get focused cause your constantly throwing to a small area ( I take the tripple 20). And whem time passes I will be drawn to the tournement more untill the point I don't get up to play darts anymore. Thats when I'm realy into the tourney.I suck at cashgames.
