mike matusow's show on cardplayer

Recommended Posts

I am a fan of Mike and I really do root for him to do well. I can't help but cringe while I listen to him on that show. First of all, he can't really participate in an interview because he wants to talk about himself. It is tough for the guest to even tell a story without being interupted, mostly to have Mike chime in about himself. He did the best when Barry was on the show, maybe because he knows he is out classed as a player. The same could be said for say Daniel as well, but because he and Mike are "friends" he doesn't show Daniel the same respect. Mike thinks everyone plays horribly and he is the most unlucky guy on the planet. Mike really thinks he is the best NLHE player in the world. I guess it is not bad to think it, but to go around saying it so often is Hellmuthian. This show has obviously been popular, Barry Shulman says as much in a blog entry. There is not another show like it, would it be more popular if they had a host that was a little more polished in media relations? It is easy to mention Daniel, but he is likely too buzy to host something like this. There are many people who could bring a much more cival, marketable product. IMHO

No, the show is great because Matusow is always outrageous and always speaks his mind. He gets the guests into the show and acting like themselves by talking the same way he would off the air.

Mike's personality makes the show what it is. He's got so many stories and he doesnt hold anything back. A regular talk show host wouldnt make bets with the co-host where the winner gets a lap dance. A regular host wouldnt talk $#1t about everyone, like Mikey does. It's the reason we tune in.

I really like the show alot, and make sure I catch almost every one. I'm also a big fan of Mike, and like the element he brings to the show. That being said, the most recent show (the final table preview show with Michael Mizrachi and Gavin Smith) was the worst preformance my Matusow yet. With most other guests, they actually get an intelligent poker conversation in. I especially enjoyed the episodes with Greenstein, DN, Raymer, Laak and Cassidy, and Josh Arieh.Mike is a good co-host because he can joke around with most of the players, and does have the occasional good question, or intelligent answer. He hinders the show a little bit when he get's out of hand though, which he difinitely was in the last one.I think the show should stick with Matusow, just make sure that he's taken some Riddilin, Adderal, or whatever other medication he uses recently to keep him calm. I mean the guy has ADD, give him a break.Oh ya, Mike says everyone is a donk, but I think for the most part it is in jest, because he also sincerely compliments other players often. I thought that him and David Singer were going to start making out at one point after a few compliments were exchanged, followed by an awkward silence.

I completely agree. The only thing I worry about is whether Cardplayer will fire Mike if he keeps deciding not to show or cut the show short to follow his bets.

I love The Circuit, I find it hilarious. Mike Matusow is a fixture of the show, he makes it fun and he's pretty funny, but he talks too much about how he is "so unlucky" and about his medication. I don't really want to hear about his meds or how he thinks he's the most unlucky person in the world when he just isn't at all. I just watched the TOC and he got his fair share of luck - just because you get busted AK vs AQ in the world series once doesn't mean you're doomed for life. I really like him as a player but I think he talks about his problems too much on the show. That being said, you gotta love his new single, "He was a donk".

first off, is making getting paid to do the show? if so, how much money? if he was a paid employee and i was cardplayer yes i would look for some other pro to host, or perhaps rotating pro's as guest host.

That show is the best. If Mike wasn't on it there wouldn't be a show because it would have been cut a few tournaments back. He's the reason people listen to it. Who cares how much he talks? I want to hear him talk, he's too funny.

Without Mike the show would be no where. I literrally feel asleep listening to the John Phan interview and tried listening to it again, I turned it off in about 10 minutes. Without Mike the show isn't even entertaining.

yeah i agree. Mike MAKES the show. Without him, it wouldnt be close to as entertaining as it is now. I love the fact that he talks a lot especially when he'll interupt Scott or one of the guests....it makes my day. That was way too funny when he came in last time on the final table preview show and just started goin off on Gavin Smith and mispronouncing Grinder's name. I loved every second of it.

I enjoy the show as well. The one complaint I do have is the audio. Actually, Matusow's audio. He'll be talking at a normal volume and then all of the sudden just start screaming out of nowhere. I understand it's one of his charms, but it makes for a hell of a time trying to listen to it at work. I'll turn the volume up cause he'll be mumbling a story about a hand he played and then out of the blue he'll scream, "AND THIS DONK FLIPS UP 97 SUITED!!!!" at about 150 db. Cardplayer should either find someone to train Mike on the proper way to use a microphone, or get some better sound diffusing equipment to prevent Mike from causing deafness in his listeners.

I dont think Matusow is being paid so getting fired probably isnt a problem.

I find it kinda funny actually. Like i'll be all calm listening and all of a sudden my heart will skip a beat because Mike SCREAMS something out. I love it.
