econ_tim 0
Off topic has been a little chaotic the past few days. But it doesn't have to be that way.I was reading OOT at 2 + 2, and I found some of their rules very sensible. For instance, the "byebye rule" says that anyone who says they are leaving the forum will not be allowed to return to the forum. This is supposed to reducing attention-whoring and seems like a good idea on priciple.Another feature of OOT is a system to warn members who violate forum policies. The title of offenders is changed to one or two "*"s based on the severity of the offense. If a member reaches three "*"s, they are banned.I'm not suggesting that we adopt 2 + 2's policies, but I do think more regulation could be helpful. The key is that any policy must be strictly enforced. I believe part of the problem now is that the moderators have sufficient energy but very little power to police the forum. All they can do is move, lock, edit, or delete threads. Any other action requires the authority of an administrator. Two changes could be made to deal with this problem. First, allocate more powers to the moderators. Second, clearly outline the consequences of breaking certain rules and then have administration agree to follow enforce those consequences whenever they are due.I know many of you complain that the forum is over-moderated. I don't think that is the problem. I think the moderators are doing a great job. Remember, they are just normal people with jobs or classes to go to who want to make FCP a better place. But maybe there is a problem with the credibility of the regulations. For example, the forum rules state that no one should advertise for rakeback or other commercial sites. Yet it is common to see rakeback advertisements in people's signatures. The rule should be discarded or enforced. Having an unenforced rule simply encourages member to break other rules. My post is long enough. I'm sure many of you have helpful ideas. All that I ask is that you keep the discussion civil and reasonable. And I know I've been rude to some of you in the past couple days. I apologize.P.S. please don't move this to the "suggestions" forum, as I think "off-topic" is where it is most needed.

mark33f 0
My only problem with Off Topic is there shouldn't be requirements or membership to post in a thread. Let people post where they want.
bigkg 0
My only problem with Off Topic is there shouldn't be requirements or membership to post in a thread. Let people post where they want.Well there technically isn't in any, you will just get flamed.Go to the hideout, all people are welcome to post whatever they want.
mark33f 0
OK but what is the point of not allowing people to "freely" post in a thread?

KDawgCometh 2
tim, everything that you are saying are things that I want. I fully agree that rakeback adverts in people's sigs is ridiculous, and wish that people would just post rakeback questions in the online forum, and let affilliates PM them from there. This way, affiliates stay private, and they don't openly compete with each other. I also agree with the goodbye threads. If you really want that much attention, we should oblige by giving you what u wantas far as the star system. Astroglide did that in place of ****'s ban system where he was the pure judge and jury. As someone who posts in OOT and in the strat sections of 2p2, I never really had a problem with how shit went about his bannings as I knew that it would never effect me. I do think though that warnings should happen for the excessive +1 posts as they do nothing for the forum. I challenge those that say that there is over modding here, cuase that just isn't the case. If you look at other prominent poker forums that have a decent mod system, this place is still very light on it. Its just that the posters here are still used to the pure chaos that was this place when the only mods were gov, jayson, and admin. I care a lot about this site, and I try to do my best in modding it. I am also more then willing to put myself on the front lines when things go funky, so then people obviously assume that I am either a dick of a mod, don't care about their complaints, or am the person doing it. This just isn't true. I am always open to constructive criticism, but when people say stuff with no basis or fact behind what they are saying, that naturally ticks me off, just like it would for anyone else. I really don't care if people think that I am a dick, I just want this site to be the best poker site on the internet. I also think that this post applies a lot to general too. I will not move this post, so if it gets moved, guess who didn't do it(for any haters that want to put words into my mouth)

Golden 2
And does Off-Topic have a specific mod? I think it is busy enough to have a mod dedicated to it.

KowboyKoop 0
I have a "suggestion" for OffTopic. Anytime a member of the forum, who knows that another member's wife is pregnant, says to that other member, "I hope your wife has a miscarriage," I think that forum member should be banned. Maybe that's just me...but I doubt it.

DrawingDeadInDM 0
I agree with Tim and Keith. I think the people that bitch about over-regulation typically are the ones who add nothing to this forum--not even humor.Posters like Beans and the Mex might not talk a lot about Poker Theory or higher level thinking of short handed 40/80 LHE, but, they're still valuable members of this forum. People whose main purpose is to +1 randomly, are not valuable members. I also think expanding OT into sub genres would be a good idea. A Sports Forum, a Music Forum. Maybe a politics forum. It'd help with the clutter and I think it'd force people who just wallow in the fecal matter here to find something worthwhile to post.Just my two cents.

Wed, Jul 13th, 2005 10:49 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been working on my game for a while now and almost gave up on being a poker player until last night. Two weeks ago, I started an excercise routine, dropped all my bad habits (except for drinking and smoking), and started a new diet recommended by my doctor. Not liking the diet plan at all, I made a key modification to it that works better for my lifestyle. So after dinner last night (I eat 6 boiled eggs for breakfast, 12 for lunch, and 12-15 for dinner) I drove down to the Sahara for the $42 nightly tourney. After buying a package of tums at the gift shop, I bought in and was seated at table5, seat 4. The night progressed slowly, picking up a few key pots until we reached the final table. Now I noticed that something was wrong about halfway through the event because the other players started staring at me even after I folded my hand. This concerned me until I realized that they were just amazed by my expert play at the table, and dismissed any ideas that someone might have heard me let a small poot once in a while. After winning the event, the staff told me that it was the shortest time in history for one person to eliminate 8 people. You should have seen it! The first hand the players on both sides of me go all-in, one with 7-2 of clubs, the other with 8-3 off. The next hand everyone but me goes all-in and leaves the poker room without even seeing who wins! Talk about intimidating people!! My play has gotten so good that they knew it was pointless to even hang around there. I was pretty glad that it was over pretty quick anyway, I was out of Tums and was feeling a little queazy._________________WAS SO POOR AS A KID, TO COOL THE HOUSE WE ATE BEANS AND DRANK ICEWATER....
