stars .01/.02 nl

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if I could get some insights regarding the .01/.02 NL holdem games at pstars. I'm primarily a small buy-in tournament player and am interested in building my meager 15 dollar bankroll. Is 750bb a sufficient bankroll? If not, what is considered the right bankroll? More imporantly, I'd appreciate any tips anyone has. I played there briefly, and to be honest, it doesn't resemble poker as I know it. What would be a good strategy? I really ought to read SS, but at this point I have only read HoH1,2 and Theory of Poker, and neither really covers no limit skill-less ring poker, lol.

Harrington's books are tournament based, and SS and ToP are for playing against more advanced players. I haven't played there but I'm guessing that level is extremely mindless poker. If you want a strategy to just try and double a bankroll search for Smasharoo's NL strategy posts.

As weird as this sounds the .01/.02 nl tables on stars actually play a lot higher then they are since the max buy in is 5$. If you buy in 2$ at a time and take it seriously you shouldnt have to much trouble working that up unless you run ridiculously bad.

NL bankroll questions are tricky. It's best to think in terms of how many max buy-ins you have... and I think 15 max buyins, or 1500 big blinds, is the best rule of thumb. At micro stakes, players are worse, and you can usually get away with 10 max buy-ins. I wouldn't try to do it with less than 10 though.

There aren't any real good NL books out about small stakes hold 'em because the games are so new and the breed of player is so different. The best advice you could get would be from someone who has actually played those NL stakes with some regularity.-Play ridiculously tight. -Play predictable. -Play mechanical. -The more obvious the better. -Don't slowplay.-Don't think what he thinks what your thinking about what he's thinking about what hand he thinks you have him on yet.You aren't going to forge a winning style playing at that low of a stake of NL.To clarify: how you play and how much you win at the small stakes NL tables will not translate AT ALL when you move up.The best advice you can get is to learn how to play like a weak/tighty. That will get you a lot of money and will subject you to less variance, which is important since you don't really have the most secure roll.Learning how to play this style will also help you bleed off less money when you move up and have to relearn how to play the game.

hey Alpha, how many hands/long did you play microNL's?and how high do you consider your advice good? 25NL? 100NL? i know it depends on the site, but generally speaking at what level, will the "predictable/mechanical" play start getting slammed?i agree with the style of play at low limits, but just want to know how long/high it will last. thanks.
