CNN announced yesterday that it has hired Glenn Beck to host Headline News.CNN Headline News president Ken Jautz's description of Beck: "Glenn’s style is self-deprecating, cordial; he says he'd like to be able to disagree with guests and part as friends. It's conversational, not confrontational."Here are a few choice nuggets of Glenn Beck-dom:Beck, best known for setting up Clear Channel's pro-war Rallies for America shortly before the Iraq War, once described how much he loathed anti-war presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich (WABC-AM, 3/16/03): "Every night I get down on my knees and pray that Dennis Kucinich will burst into flames."In 2004, Beck called Michael Berg, whose son had been beheaded in Iraq, "despicable" and a "scumbag" because the elder Berg criticized George W. Bush in the wake of his son’s death. On May 17, 2005, Beck fantasized about murdering anti-war filmmaker Michael Moore:"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out--is this wrong?"Beck also accused Moore of "taking help and money from Hezbollah."He wasn’t much more charitable to victims of Hurricane Katrina, some of whom he called "scumbags." On September 9, Beck said that Katrina victims caused a "near riot" when ATM cards were distributed to the displaced (Mediamatters.org, 9/9/05):"When you are rioting for these tickets, or these ATM cards, the second thing that came to mind was--and this is horrible to say, and I wonder if I'm alone in this--you know it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims' families? Took me about a year.... But the second thought I had when I saw these people and they had to shut down the Astrodome and lock it down, I thought: I didn't think I could hate victims faster than the 9/11 victims.... And that's all we're hearing about, are the people in New Orleans. Those are the only ones we're seeing on television are the scumbags--and again, it's not all the people in New Orleans. Most of the people in New Orleans got out! It's just a small percentage of those who were left in New Orleans, or who decided to stay in New Orleans, and they're getting all the attention."In the same broadcast, he explained his animus against the relatives of September 11 victims (while maintaining that "of the 3,000 victims' families, I don't hate all of them. Probably about 10 of them"): "When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining. And we did our best for them."The So-Called Liberal Media strikes again!!!!!

Wow, I'm definately gonna have to watch this guy. I don't know about liberal or conservative, but he sure does seem like a wacko. This guy seems more opinionated than Oreily.

Why can't we have shows where people actually discuss issues in a rational manor using facts and come to reasonable conclusions? What ever happened to enlightened discourse and debate? Of course, the answer is related to the fact that people would rather watch pro wrestling in news form than actually learn something.

We haven't had that on TV for a number of years, so I don't know why they would bring it on now. Look at your average lineup during prime time these days, either a carbon copy show of CSI or some reality crap, and you think people would watch rational discussions of issues? I wish it were so, but it cannot be.

I just think it's funny. There used to be only the mainstream media with a definite left-ward tilt...Then foxnews got big and became super conservative...And now there's just these two camps, Fox and Everybody Else, and neither one of them care about keeping the others honest and accountable. And now everything is spun like crazy.

I've made it a point not to get too worked up or respond at length to any of these political threads. But, I really, truly, hope you're not calling that, 'man', a conservative.Edit; though, having met Dennis Kucinich, I'm not going to disagree on that count.
Meh, let him spout off, it makes him feel better. The truth is one network and one achor is not the problem. It's a combination of media outlets.

I hate news now. All of its friggin biased in one way shape or form. I think I'll just refuse to keep up with any current events any more and instead bask in my uninformed bliss.

Why is 'man' in quotes? Is he actually a robot? You also denied the fact that Robert Novak is a conservative, and I think he might actually be a robot.

I said Robert Novak is not representative of conservatives. That is true. Beck is to Conservatism, what Jacques Chirac is to Liberalism. Beck is not a man, for a man needs at least some semblance of rational thought, maybe even have some emotion or feeling. He's an alarmist, an extremist, and just a big ol' turd.Edit; I'm watching the Mighty Ducks, and Goldberg kept popping into my head. Not sure why I decided to type it though.

I can't find any parallel to this guy's conservative thoughts, it's extremely radical. The closest analogy I can think of brings Howard Dean to mind. So lets put this together, Howard Dean is to radical Liberal as Beck is to radical conservative? Close, no cigar though. We need to figure out a more conservative party name, he belongs there. Perhaps his symbol could be a monkey.

I suppose I'm struggling to figure out your point here--I'm pretty dense though. My point was, that if we're going to pigeon hole people into one category of the other, let's take into account that there's still extremes for both and that neither group wants to be represented by those extremes.

Okay, so we can both agree that he's a crazy right winger and for CNN to balance they might have to let Michael Moore host his own show, right?
..eh.Is the 'liberal equivalent' to 'crazy right winger' a 'fucking annoying communist bastard who will rot in hell if for no other reason than the way he wears that fucking hat'?..if so, then yes.

Also, Moore is hardly a communist. He just likes to position himself as someone who "looks out for the litte guy". Interestingly, blowhards on the right like O'Reilly and Limbaugh do the same thing. Populism sells, I guess.
