I saw the High Stakes game on the tube the other night. I read in DN's blog about the trouble with having a lot of cash in the airport.I don't understand why the big boys travel with all that cash. It seems to me that there must be some sort of electronic transfer system that would let them buy in at all the bigger casinos without the need to step in the street with a bag of cash. It seems logical to me that if DN went to the Aussie Millions the hotel could make an electronic transfer with, say, the Bellagio player bank and get it done without the risk of carrying all that cash.I imagine they pay the winners of big tournaments with a check, but, even in cash games in a major casino, the player ought to have the option of going to the window and asking to transfer the money to his home player bank.I understand that there is a psychological reason to toss two bundles of fifty grand in cold hard cash at the pot, but, anybody that knows the stories of how many times the guys were robbed in the old days should be begging for more security in todays electronic age, especially as recognizable as they are today. Caro was tied up and robbed at gunpoint, twice, and, back then the only people that recognized him were other gamblers. Today, every knucklhead with a TV and bad intentions can pick guys like DN out of a crowd. Having a gun stuck in your face once and robbed, just once, would out weigh any edge you could get from winning one pot by splashing a wad instead of the same value in chips.It makes me wonder what kind of security these guys travel with.

Read DN's blog about hating the everloving fuck out of banks (ok, he didn't say it quite like that, but it's what he meant). Cash is the only thing a lot of these guys trust.

I dont think the big name players realize how big there celebrity..ness actually is. I doubt that Negreanu or any of the big name players normally travel with that much money. I'd be willing to bet this situation in Miami was a rare occasion and not common.

I think a lot of them carry around large denomination chips from Bellagio to pass b/t themselves as currency. It's a lot easier, and there are a lot less questions asked when you've got several 5K chips from a casino as opposed to 50K in hundred dollar bills in a duffel bag.

I've never seen the big time pros out in public, but, if I was them, I would certainly have some security every where I went.Even if they carry no cash, the perception is that they do, and that perception combined with their notariety could get them killed.Having no cash when the poop comes down might be worse than being robbed, who knows?
