los angeles and las vegas

The games in so cal are generally more loose. The further west you go the more loose the action, or at least that is my experience. The games in AC are tight. The games in Tunica are not quite as tight. The games in Vegas are pretty loose in comparison, and finally LA is very loose.

I agree with the loose games out here, but I don't like the structure. In a 100nl game the blinds are 2/3. Raises are generally to 15 bucks preflop. In a 200nl game, the blinds are 3/5. Raises preflop are from 20/25. It's pretty insane. I would like a deeper stack to play with all these loose cannons.

I obviously know you can be walking in your sleep and find poker in Las Vegas...but I thought I had heard there was at least one card room or casino where poker was played in the city of Los Angeles itself. I visit there every once in a while, but I don't live there, so I have no clue where to go. Anyone know of any places and have comments on what they're like???

I was just wondering what people found to be the major differences in play between the two cities?
I grew up in NY and cut my teeth playing stud in AC. I have played in 4 or 5 midwestern riverboats...I am in Vegas twice a month...I live in Reno...and hang out in Tahoe. The difference ? None. You can find juicy, loose games or tight, rock games everywhere you go. Just boils down to table selection.

So I guess the difference is stack size. In LV, a 1/2 nl game, you can buy in for 200. In cali a 200nl game is 2 or 3/5. Which is just rediculous. You miss a couple of flops, there goes half of your stack lol.

Years ago, the games were much tighter in Vegas (but weak-tight - with the occasional beginner tourist thrown in for pure profit).Los Angeles was way looser and faster. Overall, I found the games in LA tougher.

I would something pretty low-limit, because I've never played in a casino or card room before. I'm still pretty new to the game and looking more for practice and fun beyond home games, than trying to earn any significant amount of money. I want the experience of actually dealing with people and chips.

In LV, a 1/2 nl game, you can buy in for 200. In cali a 200nl game is 2 or 3/5.
Blind structures and buy in limits are set room to room. While a certain "cap" may be the norm for any given area, it is based mostly on customer demand. Here in Reno...they have 1/2 NL with a $40 min buy in at the Peppermill...1/2 NL w/ min $100 Max $200 at the Hilton...2/3 NL w/ $200 Max at Circus Circus...2/3 NL - $5 to open min $200 no max at the Eldorado. So you see, just within a few blocks you can play low limit NL at significantly different tables.Just something to think about.

I understand that, BUT here in Cali in a couple of major card rooms, I have played at bike and commerce, they spread the nl like I said previously and I think it's lame. Come on 2/3 blinds, raises to 15, with 100 bucks in chips, unreal. They're easy games, just sit and wait for a hand and they're GURANTEED to pay you off. The problem is if you miss a couple of flops. :club:

I was about to answer this question, but the discussions that followed confused me to as to the way they work. I think I need to investigate more how the games work.

There are great low limit games in Phoenix. I'd say the 3-6, and 6-12 omaha 8/o are the best in the country. I'd like to hear from someone how the games in Tunica are now? Then I'd like to know how the games are in places where there aren't casinos near by. If people have to travel a good amount to get to a game, what are those games like?

The difference is minute reallyI live in Socal and have played a fair share in Vegas. Both places have loose and tight games. If you live in LA i recommend just playing there and saving the trips to Vegas for partying...or atleast thats what i do. Nothing like paying for overpriced drinks all night :club:
