theresa113 0
This goes out to all of the Bob Dylan fans on this site and even to those who are not. Just wondering what is your favorite Bob Dylan song? Inspiration came from another thread. Here are mine:1. Lay, Lady Lay- a simple song that is so pure and haunting and shows that Dylan can feel love just as deep as he feels about anything else. He also shows on this song that he can almost sing well.2. Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love) from Empire Burlesque. The critiques panned this song and album but I loved it. This song seems so simple but read the lyrics and what he is saying in between. He talks of someone who he feels so connected to but knows deep down that it is not right. I love the line But I can't figure out whether I'm too good for you/Or you're too good for me". 3. Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again- This song is a lyrical poetic masterpiece! There is nothing so colorful and rich as this song. WOW. My words are pathetic, Dylan's are imortal.4. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right- First heard this song as a little girl by Peter, Paul and Mary (you know, the group that did Puff, The Magic Dragon). As a kid, I just thought it was catchy. Now, I see how Dylan could make emptiness seem sweet. Gosh, there are so many other songs I love. Hmm.. All Along the Watchtower, If Not For You, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 and Too Much of Nothing. I feel so bad that i never kept up with his current works. I should get a few of his newer CDs. Any recommendations?
NormanHaupt 0
Well, best album, hands down, Blood On The Tracks.I've got his unplugged one.. but I'm an acoustic nut- I collect every acoustical song I can find.Blowin' In The Wind is another great one I haven't mentioned. It really sat the tone for the time, same as Maggie's Farm. So much confusion and revolution. And other classics people don't know are his.. Mr. Tambourine Man, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, All Along The Watchtower.Man you gotta mention Like A Rolling Stone, too, Quinn The Eskimo, The Hurricane (even though much of it is false), and I Shall Be Release.Happy to know another Dylan fan. I paged throguh his autobiography, nearly bought it. I'm also a fan of his son, Jacob Dylan, who fronted The Wallflowers back in the mid 90's. Good stuff.
theresa113 0
The real name for Like A Rolling Stone is Rainy Day Women #12 and 35. Yeah, I know, its weird but it is Dylan for you.I think each new rock band should go throughhis songs and record at least one. They are so diversed and can fit into almost any musical style,I agree, the Wallflowers are great. I loved their remake of David Bowie's Heros.Oh! I am not a huge Guns and Roses fan but I loved their version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door.
NormanHaupt 0
I'm a HUGE Eric Clapton fan, too. I'm so miffed I didn't get to see him in his last national tour.and, I thought Rainy Day Women was.. uh. "They stone you" song, know which one I mean?

MrConceit 0
Wow, nice to see some Dylan fans. I'm rather a newcomer. A polled some friends years ago as to a few of their favorite songs and one gave me a Dylan song. I really liked it but never got around to getting more until about 6-9 months ago. Then I went crazy. I have like 12 albums or something now.So some of my current favs:Desolation Row (this is probably my overall total favorite, nobody else even mentioned it at all, I _LOVE_ the lyrics, anybody else even like this one?Hurricane (I didn't know a lot of the facts are false in this, another poster said that, any good webpages that tell more of the "true story" then?)Tangled Up In BlueIdiot WindMr. Tambourine ManJoeyLily, Rosemary and the Jack Of Hearts (Ok, this isn't a true favorite, but it's amusing and mentions cards!)I saved what Theresa said, I'll check out some of the songs she mentioned. MrConceit 0
Well, best album, hands down, Blood On The Tracks.Hmm, that's right up there for my favs, though I think I like Desire slightly more. But yeah, from everything I've read most people seem to agree with you.
NormanHaupt 0
Blonde on Blonde is a great album- if only for the name. :) :)And.. The Hurricane. Uh type in "The Hurricane" "Bob Dylan" "Patterson Police" "Rubin Carter" Into google and you'll find a whole site dedicated to the "real" events of that night. It's pretty biased though. But it talks about Rubin's horrible boxing record- the fact that he was speeding through the streets when the cops pulled him over the first time- then they let him go, got the descript of the getaway car, and gave chase. Also talks about Bellow and Bradley. Even Patty goes on the record trying to set the whole thing straight. Its either one huge conspircy against a black brother, or its a classic example of Dylan fiction. Either or.. entertaining song. NormanHaupt 0
Trivia: The first music video EVER made (played in 1968 or so, at a movie theatre before a movie) was Subterrean Homesick Blues. Download it, it may be the single best song to attract someone. Listen to the lyrics, look at them if you google 'em. There's some great drug references. Some of the softer stuff is good, too, but I dunno if you're into that.
wrto4556 0
How old are you?20And i've never heard of any of those songs. For instance, I thought Guns n Roses made up Knockin on Heaven's door....

NormanHaupt 0
nope, Bob Dylan wrote Knocking on Heavens Door ... which was made much more famous by Eric Clapton. hmph.He also wrote a ton of other famous songs. Forever Young, uh.. All Along The Watchtower.. tons. But if you like the smooth stuff, yeah Tangled Up In Blue is great. Like A Rolling Stone is still one of his best. And Rainy Day Women

I knew he did Knocking on Heaven's Door and some others, but I didn't know he did Forever Young, I thought like Alphaville did that first, hah.I had 1 song on a playlist by him somebody recommended to me a few years ago -- Desolation Row which I loved, but then didn't bother getting more of his stuff until l ike 6 months ago when I went crazy and got like 12 albums. NormanHaupt 0
yeah the graphic witness site is the one I was thinking of.I think its far too "rightist" to be true, but I bet there is some truth to it.I recommend all Dylan fans look through it.
