a good tournament structure

anyone else find that antes can get too confusing with 8-10 people at a tablewe tried using antes once at my home games and every hand i was reminding people to put it in

We use 1000 in startchips1 x 5003 x 1005 x 255 x 105 x 5Blinds5/1010/2015/3020/40Chiprace25/5050/10075/150100/200150/300Chiprace200/400300/600400/800500/1000600/1200800/16001000/20001500/30002000/4000Works fine, on a good night there are 36(ish) playing and we spend about 4-5 hours finding a winner, levels are 15 minutes and 15 minute breaks at each chiprace and sometimes we take a break later in the tournament.

I just found a web site the will run your home tounrament. It's call Pokertracker.com.It a free site. It seems like a prety good site, It lets you set up the tournament anyway you want, It calulates the payout, keep count of # of players.

Some friends and I are planning a 2 day event. And advice/thoughts would be great from anyone...esp Daniel as he has a bit of expeirence as to what a good tournament is.30 players17 hours (12 first day 5 second) with the final table being on the second day.10,000 starting chips for $50.00 with 1 rebuy for first 2-3 hours and 1 add on. So we hve more than average chips available...My main concern is that the blinds are still too much....starting the second day we estimate 750,000 in chips to be in play...with a BB of 10,000 avg stack has 7.5 BB is this typical or just plain wrong?I have a few questtions on modifications based on this info.With fewer players over a long time we have the antes a little lower. We reach a 200 ante when we get to the 1500-3000 level.(here is the structure) We plan to enter the final table with blinds of:Day 2 Sunday *Sorry for the images... getting thewhite space right with forums is annoying. The following structures could be used for both your home private games or the big tournaments on TV. In fact, I think ALL major tounraments should adopt the following structure:10,000 starting chips25-5050-100100-200100-200 (25)150-300 (50)200-400 (50)300-600 (75)400-800 (100)500-1000(100)600-1200(200)800-1600(200)1000-2000(300)1200-2400(400)1500-3000(500)2000-4000(500)3000-6000(1000)4000-8000(1000)5000-10000(1000)6000-12000(2000)8000-16000(2000)10000-20000(3000) For the major events this structure should be used with 90 minute levels. For fun little home games you can up the blinds every 10 hands, 10 minutes, or every round (depending on # of players). It is a fun way to also learn how to play the big events.

So I tried this structure tonight for a home game, and the chip denominations were pretty confusing (25, 100, 500, 1000). Next time I'm just going to replace the 25 chips with 50 chips, and start it off like this...50-100 (0)100-200 (0)100-200 (0)150-300 (50)200-400 (50)300-600 (50)Take the 50 chips off the table.400-800 (100)

Good question, and it's all preference really but this works fine:6 1000 chips5 500 chips12 100 chips12 25 chips Anything like that would work. I would suggest less chips rather than more so you avoid the mess.

Did anyone factor in Rebuys? Gotta have rebuys 1st hour! Build the $$$ and Let 'em back in, so they don't feel so bad! for a hm. game anyway. I think I took the blind levels from Pstars. For a typical 7-9 handed gm. w/ 15 min. raises. I find smaller tourneys in card rooms, $50-$250 buy-in implement 15-20 min. levels. Antes are good practice for tourney play. I recommend getting used to antes if you wanna play tournes. course the big events like wsop. 60 min. levels, quite nice! I think thats real poker!

In Hinkley MN at grand casino every sat they hold a 150+20$ tourny. u start with 10k in chips and blinds are just like Daniel recomends only wihtout the ante. very good tourny if your ever in MN give it a try. usually about 100 player and pays top 10%.

I really like this structure. My friends and I have been using this structure, since i read this thread maybe half a year ago. But to prevent chaos we do not play with antes. We did in the beginning, but we thought it was just easier without them. We have found out that starting with:6 x 1000 chips6 x 500 chips8 x 100 chips8 x 25 chips works better too. It don't make us just have plenty of 25 chips after a couple of levels, and it's not so many chips to change in higher values once we pass the 150-300 level(since we don't play with antes).Personally I think this works great for a home game tournament.
