David_Sklansky 1,903
I've been listening to the red hot chili peppers since sunday morning. f the hataz Iike it. I was recently at a party at a poor person's house, featuring mostly burnout guests in their early 20s and a terrible sound system. RHCP was featured heavily on a party mix that kept freezing because it was streaming from an incredibly old phone. Based on this play list, you may also nostalgically enjoy a lot of early 00s pop songs, the biggest Sublime hits that you thought were tired but surprise they aren't, and possibly Miller Lite. SuperJon 175
Only RHCP album I could get into was Stadium Arcadium, and that was mostly the guitar and bass work.
timwakefield 68
I kinda love early RHCP, anything before (and including) Blood Sugar Sex Magic, although I haven't listened to them in years. Back when they were just completely silly and stupid and filthy and high on heroin. Some of that is nostalgia (BSSM, for sure), but Flea was (is?) also pretty rad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZMzf_pIERs
ShakeZuma 585
I like the chili peppers because we listened to californication nonstop on my senior beach trip so every time I listen to them it reminds me of doing tons of blow never worrying about having to work and still thinking that one day a girl might actually want to date me. brings back good memories. David_Sklansky 1,903
I bought a stratocaster a while ago, and while researching it, I learned that strat enthusiasts consider John Frusiante something of a hero...I YouTubed him, as it's been a long, long time since I've heard the band...it turned out that the man was tits-gone...just absolutely batty. Good sign. So I downloaded some records. They have all been deleted. Jesus. I didn't even delete the Black Kids from my hard drive. I have like 4TB, plus externals for some of my creepier porn, so I just don't give a shit. I have years-unwatched pegging scenes in the same directory from which I insta-scorched Stadium Arcadium. David_Sklansky 1,903
I miss mk. He understood what it meant to truly, objectively and without nostalgic bias, despise the sounds that the RHCP record.
timwakefield 68
Their original guitarist died of a heroin overdose at some point early on (pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magic), and since then they've gotten lighter and fluffier and worse and worse every day practically. The 21st century rendition of the band is an embarrassment and I refuse to listen to them in even the tiniest doses. Everything post-BSSM is garbage, and I only like that album for nostalgia. Nothing they've ever made is "good," I just think their oldest stuff has great energy and it's just completely stupid loud fun, and Flea can slap a bass good. They knew they were stupid, they sang about pussy and being retarded and they were all high on heroin constantly, and they didn't try to be deep or poetic. BSSM (or perhaps "Under The Bridge" specifically) was the turning point of them starting to really suck - before that they also sucked but at least they were loud and funny and Kiedas would shut up for long enough to let Flea bust heads every so often. "I have years-unwatched pegging scenes in the same directory from which I insta-scorched Stadium Arcadium." This line is so good that I still remembered it 4 years later. SuperJon 175
Since he's now the only solo artist to have a top 10 hit in 5 separate decades. Has anyone else listened to the "new" MJ album? I like the original tracks, but I haven't listened to the remixed versions, and I doubt I even will. As an album, I don't think it's great, but that's not really an issue to me since all the songs were recorded at different times and thus a lack of flow from track to track is to be expected. AmScray 355
Working my way through all 170 discs now. Already completed Beethoven.
Iphonenkinder 558
Is it complete? With opera? I've thought about getting something like that for Bach, but I have stupid self made blocks. I prefer live performance. The best deals for a collection like that is physical discs, and my only CD player is a ps3. I'm hesitant to get that much music all with one performer/label choice. I saw Andreas Schiff perform the second part if Bach's Keyboard Cycle and it was change your life great.

It will probably take the rest of the year to get through it. Verdi is next, then Bach, then Tchaikovsky. That's probably good to about 2017'ish. If I'm still alive I'll consider Strauss then. Complete library sets are usually less about breathtaking, mind-bending performances and more about full immersion exposure to the composers musical ideas (since, ya know. You literally get all of them), although there are some unreal performances in there.

Dubey 1,035
holy shit, I can't stop listening to Run The Jewels 2 RTJ2 was my favourite rap album of 2014 until about my 5th listen through of Big K.R.I.T. - Cadillactica. Now Cadillactica might become one of my favourite albums... ever. Can't say that for sure until I know how it holds up for me over time, but god damn, this is an amazing album.
BigDMcGee 3,352
I'm going to have to give Big KRIT a spin, you're the second one that's recommended it. I've listened to the new Kendrick and holy shit, I love it Kendrick has single highhandedly resurrected the west.

Iphonenkinder 558
The Perfume Genius performance from Coachella. It's everything, and I think I've watched it 15 times today. (It's on vid.me, and I'm on my phone.) The only thing that would make it sexier to me would be Run the Jewels watching from the wings.
BigDMcGee 3,352
I've been listening to an Afro-beat channel on my pandora for a couple weeks now. I don't really know anything about Afrobeat, really ( other than I like it) so I just made a Daktaris channel, seeded it with Fela Kuti, and see where it takes me. So far, I've just loved where it's taken me. I feel like there's a bridge between afrobeat and modern EDM, that i don't really understand yet. A friend of mine suggested, that bridge might be Dub, which hadn't occurred to me. I really like uptempo jazzy stuff in general, with strong rhythm section, so it's pretty much the perfect music for me.
