uncooper 1
I've been meaning to listen to the Crank 2 OST which Mike Patton did. I'm three tracks in, and it is very good so far.

BTW, have you listened to OB4CL2? Looking at your list, I would expect that album to make it. Also, I am now getting A Dipset Christmas. Is there a reason that a fairly unknown release is your #1? Is it just really truly excellent, or is there another reason you have it at #1?

timwakefield 68
4 User(s) are reading this topic (2 Guests and 0 Anonymous Users)2 Members: timwakefield, LongLiveYorkeHey so what are we doing as far as the best of the decade lists? OB4CLII is silly good.I wish RZA had taken some verses, because he's awesome/hilarious on 'Black Mozart.' '10 Bricks' is my favorite track right now. Not to talk bad about Ghostface (he's amazing on this album) or DOOM, but they've constantly disappointed on Dillabeats. Even friggin 'One For Ghost' I like a lot better without Ghost on it. But what I'm saying is - Raekwon absolutely kills '10 Bricks' and 'Ason Jones.' HoFD was clearly made for Rae to rap on, but the other 2 certainly were not, and they're both just phenomenal. Oh and speaking of Ghostface, his verse on 'Gihad' is ridiculous, hilarious, and disgusting. 'Kiss The Ring' is also great. Also, Cappadonna is kind of good on this album. It's definitely cracking my top 10.This video is pretty awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhyKsJEx-DY. Raekwon talking about the production of the album, the various producers, and especially Dilla. "He's like a Dre and a RZA, like a combo."
RonBurgundy 0
Also, I am now getting A Dipset Christmas. Is there a reason that a fairly unknown release is your #1? Is it just really truly excellent, or is there another reason you have it at #1?no, it was a joke after i found out that my real number 1 (agaetis byrjun) was released in mid-1999maybe ill squeeze fishscale or below the heavens in somewhere to round out a real top 35(mostly i just didnt want to change all the numbers)
mk 11
Okay, so big question.Does agaetis byrjun count as being from the 90's or the 00's? According to Wiki, it was released in 1999.i think it wasn't released in the u.s. until 2000 so i included it. if we're leaving it out, that's fine too...as for leaving out jaydee and outkast...i had them in there for a long time but they eventually got cut because i got real with myself and ranked strictly off personal taste rather than importance, and while i admire outkast and jay immensely i had to admit that i don't necessarily love their music as much as some others.i also assumed a lot of people would have the white stripes high on their list, but i've simply never been a fan. LongLiveYorke 38
Hey so what are we doing as far as the best of the decade lists?I think the final verdict is that, if you'd like, you can submit them to this thread or directly to me via PM in the next few days or so and I'll start compiling them all together to make a FCP meta list. But the deadlines aren't necessarily firm and people can make changes over the next two weeks or so, as they see fit. So, if you have a list, we'd all love to see it. And if not, you still have time to work it out.I'm not sure what to do about the Sigur Ros album in question. Personally, I know it's going to have a VERY high spot on my list if it's included. Oh well.

I know it is listed as 1999 but I saw it on somebody's best of the decade thing recently, not on fcp. I don't remember where - maybe some of the tracks were in pitchfork's 500 song list? Maybe the album was released in the states in 2000 or something? I've literally never heard the album in question, but with all this talk about it I decided maybe I should. Anyways, it might count. timwakefield 68
as for leaving out jaydee and outkast...i had them in there for a long time but they eventually got cut because i got real with myself and ranked strictly off personal taste rather than importance, and while i admire outkast and jay immensely i had to admit that i don't necessarily love their music as much as some others.i also assumed a lot of people would have the white stripes high on their list, but i've simply never been a fan.Yeah, I've been having a hard time with my list, and so I'm now just thinking about it as my favorite albums of the decade, or the albums which have had the largest effect on me, and throwing out any other criteria. The thing with me is, I only seriously delved into this decade within the last year. A few of the albums on my list I've been listening to since they came out, but really only a very few. Anyways, I guess the point I'm trying to make is twofold: First, I agree that "importance" is an unhelpful criteria to try and use, and second that my list is going to be far less 'definitive' in my own eyes than most of y'alls are, because I'm sure there are albums I have not yet heard which will make my list once I hear them. So, yadda yadda. Anyways, here's a super-rough draft I made, which I figure I might as well post for the sake of whatever. It is extremely rough - not because I haven't spent time thinking about it, but because I haven't come to many conclusions yet. Anyways, that's why I didn't bother numbering it, or making it a round number. 1. J Dilla - Donuts2. The White Stripes - Elephant3. Outkast - Stankonia 4. And yeah, I count about 8 albums there that I hadn't even heard of before this summer. You guys get close to full credit on about 5 of them, so....thanks. :)Edit: Brother Ali's Shadows On The Sun is almost definitely gonna make my list. I'd forgotten how truly good it is, until I listened to it again.

timwakefield 68
More Jazz For Lady Grey! Here's some of my favorite Roland Kirk tracks, off various albums. They're all live, and I think you might especially like some of the old New Orleans stuff he does. The 20-minute version of 'Blue Trane' is also out of this world.Kirk Mix1. Make Me A Pallet On The Floor2. Cabin In The Sky3. Dem Red Beans And Rice4. If I Loved You5. Blue Trane6. Solo Improvisation (he really shows off on this track)7. Volunteered SlaveryAnd this is Baby Huey, his only album (heroin overdose, 26). Soul/funk/rock from 1971. He was produced by Curtis Mayfield. Baby Huey & The BabysittersI highly recommend both of these to everybody. Also, there is a tiny, almost un-noticable skip near the beginning of the first track of the Kirk mix. Anyways, it annoys me, but the rest of it is clean.

Maybe because he was a professional athlete, he's trying to draw a parallel between athletic achievement (where athletes keep getting bigger, stronger, faster) and artistic achievement. He was a bad professional athlete, and he's a significantly worse propagandist. His argument is something like: "I like Guns and Roses more than the Beatles. Therefore: anybody who likes the Beatles more than Guns and Roses is either lying or stupid." It's hilarious that he closes the piece with "MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND" nonsense. He's just begging the question. "People who like the Beatles are brainwashed" is his first premise.
