Asia would seem to have the best growth potential.
Yep, China & India are huge. I forget the statistics, but something nuts like < 10% of population using plastic right now. It's just starting to gain traction.

Strange day, market looks terrible but I am up. Sure could use an oversold rally into the close here...

Visa has a forward P/E of 35? And, as you say, everyone already carreis and uses a Visa card, so what is their growth potential really? How easy will it be to double their profit needed to justify the price? This was a great IPO play. Long term holding? No way.MasterCard seesm to have a slightly better future P/E, but in my opinion, is still a bad long-term purchase.
adding on to the other responses to this....as the world increasingly switches from cash to debit.....I think more people will end up with multiple visa cards.....and yeah their potential in emerging markets was what convinced me to buy. Also, since I got in at 58 and it is now above 80 I can always wuss out if it drops below 68 and still make 3000 and move on to something else.So thank you for complimenting my IPO purchase :club:

I have a check/debit card from my bank that is Visa. I had to use it yesterday while depositing a check, it had expired 11 months ago. Shows how often I use it.

The price is irrelevant. If you can afford to buy 10 Visa, buying 3 MC is the same thing.

I cant afford to buy much of anything right now without selling something off.Trying to save my liquid cash for a down payment on a house.....going to look to buy one in a few months.I obviously understand your point....I cant afford to buy anything right now. That is putting it better.

Yea but they wanted to get back under there at the close is what I meant. Bush doesn't matter...we just need to get out of the credit/financial/housing crisis without 10% inflation :club:

oh is that all we have to do? no biggie then! I think Bush matters in a very indirect way.....a large majority of the country has totally lost faith in our president/the executive branch and a change (whether McCain or Obama) has to shore up people's confidence somewhat.

QFT. Worse case just buy an odd lot. So, today I bought lots( to me anyways) (4800) shares of Potash One at 5.35 on the TSX. First day on the big board. Used to be on the venture exchange. Closed at 5.54. Ship it! Oh wait, I didn't sell yet. Anyways, I have great hopes for this small cap, I've given up on Potash north, the graph looks like a spike so too risky. Bankroll management 0, gambool 1. I always laugh when the bank asks me if I want my rrsp's in risky or safe and when I look at risky, it's superdiversified and I'm thinking, this is not risky at all. Wish me luck everyone.

Crossing my fingers for you. I wish we traded on the same exchanges, I would totally make some quick trades with ya (except at much smaller amounts haha) :club:

this downward spiral has to end sometime.....right? (maybe when Bush is gone?)
Sure, after 10 million homes have been foreclosed on, after most major home builders are bankrupt, after all commercial construction has stopped and we have a huge bankruptcy blowout there that will make the S&L collapse look like nothing in comparison, after many trillions in losses have been realized, after 20+% of the U.S. population has gone through bankruptcy, after a long and ugly collapse of small business, after sevral dozen mid-size banks have collapsed, after FDIC has been bailed out by taxpayer money, after Freddie and Fannie have collapsed and been bailed out....After a decade of stagflation or great depression... Then the downward spiral will finally end. This problem in on the order of magnitude of all federal budget deficits since Reagan took office. That is how much extra debt U.S. household added in the last 8 years. They can't afford that debt.Yeah, the Fed has held off the collapse with a huge drop in interest rates and hundreds of billions in loans to banks and brokerages... But we see the inflation that is triggering. What happens when the $300 billion turns into $3 trillion? We're not even 1/10th of the way through this.

yah, that would be fun. You could trade on the tsx if you wanted to, it just costs you the exchange rate to convert funds. I trade on the us exchanges sometimes, i.e. Visa. smaller amounts are probably the smart thing to do. You obv. manage your bankroll much better. It's just that it's so hard to do when you really don't have that much money to play with.
