Ok with the online poker thing is it normal to receive 5-10% bad beats every time you get knocked out? Meaning that the player you are up against has usually less than 5-10% chance to win. I have been on a run over the last week where I just can't make any headway because some one with a worse hand shoves all in and I have them dominated then...bam! I'm out. I know it happens and "thats poker" but why are 5%ers so winning in online poker? It just doesn't make sense that in 5 of the last 7 tourneys I have gone out to someone with less than a 10% chance to win gets lucky after it has happened usually twice to me already in the tournament. If someone has a good way for me to avoid these situations or know when they are coming that would be a welcome help also.

Because those 10%ers or 5%ers will happen 10% or 5% of the time. Conversely, your hand will hold up 90% or 95% of the time. It just happens. Not to be cruel, just truthful, if you want to avoid it, don't play poker. No hand is 100% pre-flop and rarely 100% on the flop

Before you get flamed for this...Its basically just variance. You see a lot more hands online, so you're bound to see a lot more bad beats. Thats just the way it is. I don't play online, so I don't really know, just repeating things Ive read here

Ask someone who knows how to avoid money.Now for a real contribution. It is not as unlikely as you think to be busted several times in a row by bad beats. If you are playing good poker, then you are getting your money in the pot with the best of it. If you do this many times during a tournament, eventually someone will suck out on you. If that person has a bigger stack than you then you will lose.So I would expect you be busted with bad beats. If you always busted on hands when you were behind (e.g. pushing 55 in against QQ) then there would be major problems with your game.So be glad that you are losing to bad beats because you are playing better than your opponents and you will win money in the long run.

So here is an idea of how things have been going for me. Big stack is first to act and calls. Blinds 50-100. Fold, Fold, call, fold to me. I raise to 300 of my 1k in chips with Q-Q on the button. SB raises about 325 all in, Big Stack raises another 1700 all in and the other limper calls all in. So getting good odds and figuring with the way these guys have been playing I also call. Plus its a 30 person SNG and the average stack is now around 2.5k. The Hole cards are a dream.BS J-8 offLimper 8-8Me Q-Q SB 7-7I have this thouroughly dominated so here comes the flop. 8-9-6 2 diamonds. You have got to be kidding me Limper hits the case 8. Turn 7 so now SB has his trips and finally a 9 on the river. I dont even know what to do anymore. I mean I have to be what a 70% favorite if not better pre flop with no one getting more than a 10% chance to win. So flame on flamers but this is getting rediculous.

looks like your picking good spots, are you in free rolls? But i don't know how early your gonig out but maybe you want to try a differnt style and allow your self to accumalte more chips early so when the bad beat hits your not all in you just last a chunk of your stack and can still play on.

if you are a 9-1 favorite 10 times odds are one of them is going to come up as a bad beat. In a tournament you need to double up many times. Hitting the final table has a lot of luck in it.

in your QQ move all in preflop.You have 10x the BB. Push in, don't make that small raise.Secondly, tournament poker is a jopke for the most part. Very very very few can make consistent money playing them.Thridly, play cash games. No limit, or limit. Just play cash games.MTTs, are like crack..SNGs i'm ok with, cause some good players can and do beat the game for a profit, but you're bread and butter will and should be in teh cash games.- Jordan

Don't feel too bad....i am surfing a huge wave of turd soup right now too. Have been for two weeks.
