Dear Pete Carroll, why? why i ask. why did you just give away our third straight national title to those chaps from Texas? we had it locked up with 7 minutes to go and instead of punting on 4th down and 1 you wanna have a pissing contest and show everyone who's **** is bigger. don't get me wrong, those chaps from texas played their heart out but why give them no respect? if were texas i would have felt like you were trying to shit on my lawn while i was wattering the grass by going for it on 4th down. texas folks love them some football. shit, on friday nights while we're getting ready to go party those boys are getting ready for the friday night high school football game. they eat, breath and shit football. after wiffing it on 4th down why go to the prevent defense? ****, the only thing the prevent defense does is prevent you from winning. the only thing that keeps running through my head is the 1999 British Open. John Vandevelde only needs to make double bogey on the 72nd hole and the BRITISH OPEN IS HIS. what does he do? does he lay up and play for certain bogey and the win? no, he tries to hit a 4 iron out of 10 feet rough and puts it in the drink. he then proceeds to GIVE THE TITLE AWAY. but that is neither here nor there. why pete carroll? why i ask.

Going for it on 4th was ballsy, and if he punted and lost he would be second guessed just as much. I liked the call.Prevent D = Young runs for 15 yards every single play without being touched.

You don't punt thereYou play to win not to not loseHis mistake was not having Reggie Bush and the Thunder Back on the field at the same time
if you're going for the win why get so lax on D then after we wiff? i just don't get it. great game!

I saw Reggie Bush on the back of my mild carton this morning. USC has lived by that go for it mentality all year (against ND and Oregon). This time they got caught. VY was unstoppable, but I think USC should have continued to pressure him and make him win the title by throwing, not running in untouched.

You know they say the prevent D only prevents one thing: Winning. Proved it there. I dont like the call on 4th and 2, especially if you're running. As good as Leinert threw the ball, he shouldve run a play action bootleg option. His arm wouldve gotten respect, and he couldve ran for the first. Trying to go up the gut against the stellar Texas D was a mistake.

we didn't need reggie bush last night. it was obviously texas' game plan to stop bush which they succeeded. but they had no answer for lendale & matt. the last 7 minutes just blows my mind.

Im from texas...born in austin and been a horns fan all my life. That was one of the best college football games ive seen...probably ever.Great game played on both sides...Texas did an outstanding job of holding Reggie down, and Leinhart did a wonderfull job of working around that. The impact player of the game was without a doubt vince young. My god, ive never seen someone run the ball like that...he makes the entire defense look like JV highschool, the way he shrugs off tackles and makes people commit then cuts away. I was impressed...it fired me up for sure.EDIT: Wanted to add...what on earth was bush thinking trying to toss the ball out of a crowd after breaking such a long run...that had to be the bonehead play of the day from a worldclass player.

And if they pick up the 1st down he's declared a genius. The way they were moving the ball they had to go for it. A punt gets them 19 yards if they kick it through the end zone..The TO on the 2-pt conversion gets honorable mention for bonehead play of the game.

Pete Carroll isn't used to playing from behind, and I don't think he know how to handle it. What's up with burning their last timeout on the 2-point conversion? I guess you don't have to be a good game-manager when you usually win by 40 points.

I think you did need him. What you didn't need was his failed pitch attempt and his poor special teams performance. I think he's a great player and I blame the coaches for not getting him involved enough. His rushing numbers were great and he had something like 97 yds receiving, why didn't they use him more? Also, you don't call your last timeout on a two point conversion w/ 19 seconds when your already losing. Give them the conversion and hope to tie it w/ a field goal.

First off in reply to Pete Carrol not being used to playing from behind, do yourself a favor and look up how many games they started the 2nd half behind this year.As for the call to go for it. The way Young was moving the ball on them, who cares about 20 extra yards. You get those 2 yards, you win the game. This is a, no, the bowl game, you don't play to prevent and hope the defense holds up. You play to win that ******, that's how teams win. Also, the defense was holding them until the face mask penalty and until they stopped putting a mean blitz on em. Not sure what happened there.Young is a freak, but I highly doubt an NFL defense would let him run to the right everytime he was within 15 yards of the end zone. They are just to big and fast and mean in the NFL. He woulda gotten layed out.

I disagree,If you punt you give Texas the ball on the twenty at worst. If you go for the first down and get stuffed they have the ball on the fifty.Easy call but then again I'm not a National Champion two Hiesman trophy producing football coach.

Now way. Vince Young was walking all over them all game. He called a BS run up the gut when what should have happened was simple: You put Reggie in the back field and run a PA bootleg and have Leinert either run it or give him a couple of options downfield. I dont think i run straight at Texas's front 4.

and they have to score 2 touchdowns. the prevent defense made young look better than michael vick :club:

about the 4th down call...this team didn't go without taking chances. A fg woulda tied up the game vs Notre Dame but they sneak leinert into the endzone for the winner. They just got stopped...and couldn't stop young on his last drive. The biggest mistake was the TO on the 2 pt conversion. I'd kinda be reading to defend against that If I was them. Give USC 1 more play and they coulda easily gotten into reasonable FG range to tie.And what was leinert doing on the last play...taking his time just to pretty much throw it away with no time left. The only thing that woulda been worse would be to take a sack.

I think you do go for it there. USC hadn't stopped Vince Young all night. They could've had 16 players out there on defense and they still wouldn't have stopped him. They were going to score whether they got the ball on their 50 or their 5. You get that first down and the games over. Good call, poor execution. But why in the hell do you NOT have Reggie Bush in there? He's the Heisman trophy winner! Put him in the backfield and motion him out to the sideline. That takes at least 1 linebacker or DB out of the box and out of the play! USE HIM AS DECOY PETE!...

So seeing there were 40 some episodes of why USC is the best team ever...are they now considered the most ovrrated because the media doesn't want to call UT the best team ever?I sat in Austin and had to listen to a bunch of USC chumps talk about how it was going to be 70-14 and how Bush was going to have 500 yards etc...That soon turned to "whatever, we've still won three titles" as he was spouting at the mouth I directed him to the television as VY was running in for the win. I think he skipped his tab he left so fast.Face it, the University of Spoiled Children didn't show up when it was a big game. They shold go back to fending off real opponents like Fresno State.
