dead money 1
Now, I normally play tournaments and sngs because then I dont this problem, but it kills me in cash games. My problem is that I tend to quit when Im winning and stay when Im losing. Everytime I go and play cash games and get up a decent amount, I start to think about the money, and I get scared to lose it. So I figure that if I cant play my best game, then it is better to just quit the game. It is really killing me. Now it would be worse if I went on tilt when I am losing, but when Im losing money, I actually regain my focus and play much better. This is how I believe that I am not losing boat loads of money right now. An example of this would be about 2 weeks ago at the Taj. I was playing 1/2 nl and I bought in for $200. After about an hour I was up to $350. I then double up and Im sitting at $700. So now Im starting to think about how much I have won. I start to realize I won $500 already. So for the next 2 hours Im playing scared. Im folding small pocket pairs to a raise after 6 people already called. Im folding flush draws for $15 when the pot has close to $80 in it. I see every bet I make without a made hand as losing money. My reads become clouded. I ended up giving back about $50 before I couldnt take it and got up. I then sat waiting for my friend for the next 4 hours. The real problem is this is a normal occurence. I have numerous times won a good amount of money quickly and then sat around waiting for my friends. But on the flip side, I have played 27 hour sessions when all I won was $20 because I was never up the whole night. If Im not ahead, I play better. It is really making me upset. I cant figure out how to stop this. I just get this real anxious feeling when I am winning money. I just want to know if anybody else has gone through this and if there is anything that I can do to stop this. I have been playing seriously for 2 years now, and I am up about $6000 since then. I just feel that I am really holding myself back. The money really has an affect on me and I know it shouldnt, but there is nothing I can do about. I could really use some advice. I honor your guys opinions greatly. Thanks
Chief 0
if you are uncomfortable playing with your profitsstand up and buy back in for 200 at another table after awhilethere is no shame in rat-holing if you feel uncomfortable putting that much money in play at once. you limit both your profits and your losses this way, however, and if you are practicing good table selection and bankroll management there should be no reason for you to do this. you should learn to play comfortably with any stack size.however, $700 is a large percentage of your bankroll so its justifiable that you want to protect it. i suggest you focus on playing your best and making the best decisions possible. when you start to get nervous, and you are making plays you wouldnt ordinarily make, it's time to get up and leave the table.chief
fxer 0
another option might be getting up and moving to a limit table. buying in for your original amount and keeping the rest as profit. i realize limit is a bit different in strategy, but your chances of losing everything are not nearly as great as in a nl game. TeeSludge 0
I like Chief's advice on this one. NL is a very tough game to play if you are always afraid of losing your profits. If you want to continue playing at what seems to be a level that is above your bankroll then y0u should take the advice that Chief gave. Otherwise, I would recommend playing at levels you are comfortable at until you can afford to lose what you have in front of you. Remember though, there is a difference between being able to lose the money and playing recklessly. Just because you can afford to lose the money doesn't mean you should begin playing differently from the way you have been playing to earn your profits. GL and if you ever play at the Trop, let me know.
