jeff_536 3
How does a baseball fantasy team work? I've never done one but I'd like to "be in" if possibleeveryone takes turns selecting players...so many at a set number of positions...and their stats accumulated through the year give you points in various categories like Home runs, Stolen bases, wins and strikeouts... TJ_Eckleburg 0
Which brings up another interesting point.I hate roto.I was gonna do head to head.I haven't done anything yet...Thoughts? Input?Brief fantasy baseball explanation, if anybody's new and is thinking about it: You get a C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, three OF, and a utility batter. The 5 hitting categores are Runs scored, RBI, HR, batting average, and SB.For pitchers, there are 2 starting P, 2 relief P, and 2 (on espn) or 3 (on yahoo, another point of contention) nonspecified pitcher spots. Pitchers are scored on wins, saves, strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP (walks + hits / innings pitched). For WHIP 1.000 is absurdly good. Anything under 1.250 is very good. For Roto, (rotisserie), everybody's stats are added up and you get 10 points for being tops in one category, 9 for second... on down. Your points are added up at the end of the year and somebody wins. This is the most popular way to do fantasy baseball. For head to head, you square off against one opponent each week in the 10 categories. Then you can win, lose, or tie at the end of each week adding up to 10, and play a different opponent next week. There's also a playoff. This is less popular for baseball.I move we switch to yahoo in light of the 1 extra playing pitcher.I'm also moving to add 2 more bench spots to the roster.

TJ_Eckleburg 0
Fair point.Roto it is.I should also mention that fantasy baseball usually requires more time than fantasy football, because you have to bench/start your starting pitching when your guys are starting... and they start every 5 games. That means you can't go more than 4 or 5 days without planning your rosters for the next 5 days ahead of time, or risk getting blown out of the water in the "counting" pitching statistics (W, SV, K).Simplicity is a good point too. I'll just do standard bench depth.

Pick your team and go. the next level is switching guys in and out who are injured or not playng well.Level III is figuring out what your opponent thinks you have ... no wait, that's poker... I don't mind it in football, but it drives me crazy in baseball leagues. I'm in AL-only and NL-only keeper leagues with some friends (same guys in each league), and on top of being h2h (which I hate), we also have LF, CF, RF instead of OF, OF, OF. Drives me crazy. Apparently I'm the only one that doesn't like it though, so they won't change.
