Nikki_N 17
Dave rocks! He is going to postpone his previously planned poker trip to French Lick so Conner can go to his best buddies birthday party and I can go to Tunica. In addition, he may even have to drive 1/2 way to Cincinatti to retrieve Conner from his parents who are taking Con to visit his cousins there and may want to return to stay one more night. I feel like butt about it. I was gonna have Con skip the party, but when I told him, it broke his heart. Then I considered skipping Tunica, but Dave took the bullet for me. rocksquid 50
I just got a "standing O" here at work.Apparently I've had a positive attitude throughout the entire billing process and it has now been recognized. The celebration consisted of a ton of confetti, some loud music and cheering. They blew the confetti tube right as they walked in the door and scared the crap out of me.For my recognition I got a balloon, a t-shirt that has an O with feet on it (hence standing O) and a certificate along with a desk full of confetti.I didn't get anything else. Although it is nice to be recognized for the work I do.Now I have to clean up my desk so I can keep on working.congrats.
rocksquid 50
FINALLY home from the art school... We were there for over 2 hours and then had some errands to run. Well, I applied and have to go tomorrow to finish up the financial aid forms. Looks like I can get around 14k a year, so I need to get some more grants and maybe loans and scholarships to pay for the rest of the tuition. If I cant get all the financial aid I flat out WONT be able to go. We are struggling with paying the $150 application fee. Its a teeny tiny place and I think I will like it, Lance says it is perfect for me. If everything goes well I will start soon with some drawing classes. I am nervous though.Wish me luck!!good luck. jeff_536 3
Work story...not really a story like Tim tells a story, just some interesting stuff that I learned today.First the players: My two bosses...my immediate superior is Lorne, the Editor in Chief..and the Big Boss is Ken, the publisher. Background: I really like 90 per cent of my job. I like Ken, i think he's a great publisiher and he just bought a pool table for the office. I like what I do, i like the people who work for me...I get paid a fair salary. I live about 12 minutes from the office.Everything is good except i hate my boss with the passion of 1,000 suns...he doesn't really like me, and I know he doesn't respect me.Anyhoo, during the xmas break, Lorne was on vacation and Ken called me. Told me I was getting a 3 per cent raise and made sure to point out it was significantly more than lorne suggested i get....He also made it a point that he wanted to talk to me...have a meeting, go over some things...He mentioned some incentives.Okay, great. We make tentative plans. Still haven't met, he's been busy, but it sounds promising. One of the things my company is doing, and ken's all excited about, is growing the business of the Internet...making it work for us and developing it as a revenue stream for the company. I've shared his enthusiasm and have been pushing for him to create a new position in the company: Online Content Editor...and give me the job. Also, for the first time, i've been invited to the manager's meeting. The first one i ever attended was the last one, held while Lorne was away. This time I've been invited in addition to Lorne. And my name is on the agenda. So comes a conversation today with my former boss on an unrelated matter. I've looked at her as a mentor and we used to date, and have remained very good friends since. The first thing she says to me is: "So, I've been hearing good things about you."Jeff: "Really? That's nice to hear. What specifically"Seems she was talking to Ken who spoke glowingly, impressed with the work I've been doing. I said "Doesn't really matter as long as Lorne is around."She said, "In the same conversation Ken told me he's really down on what Lorne is doing, he's too old school, isn't looking forward enough, isn't creative, isn't willing to change."Alrighty then. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and for the first time in six years, it's not an onrushing train. Going back and rereading this, it's kinda dull. Sorry, but it just makes me feel good about my job, that I might get moved away from the one person in my life who's bringing me down.
